Agile Project Management or more
familiar as APM defines as an iterative method to planning and also directing
the processes of a project. The agile development method or known as Scrum
enables the team to establish the fragments as they are completed. This
constant schedule of establishing would also allow the team to present how
successful these fragments are, or else, to immediately address the flaws. The
reliability of Agile is to help out in reducing the modification of big-scale
failures since there is a constant improvement over the lifecycle of a project.
Agile Project Management has been
emerging in the IT world since the 1990s, with its concepts of empowering
people along with their interactions, and also performing constant and
immediate delivery of value into a company (Akdeniz, 2015).
Five Steps of Agile Project Management
Project Management defines as the application of
skills, knowledge, instruments, and also techniques with a purpose to abroad
activities range to fill the requirements of a specific project. Project
Management contains five steps, and in case if the lifecycle delivers a
high-level project view, then these five steps are considered as the roadmap to
achieving it (Nicholas & Steyn, 2017).
Step 1 – Project
Initiation
This is the initial step of
the project with the main goal to describe the project at a comprehensive
level. A business case usually started up this step which will require the
company to investigate whether the project is practicable and if the project
must be started.
Step 2 – Project
Planning of Agile Project Management
This step defines as a key
to successful project management by giving the focus on evolving a roadmap that
everyone will need to follow. Setting up the goals is the initial stage of this
step which can be done some methods such as S.M.A.R.T goals.
Step 3 – Project
Execution of Agile Project Management
This step is when all the
deliverables are advanced and complete. Many things will appear in this step
such as meetings, development updates, and also reports of performance.
Step 4 – Project
Performance or Monitoring
This step is all around
measuring the progress and performance of the project, as well as making sure
that all the practices align with the plan. The project managers will apply Key
Performance Indicators or KPIs to measure whether the project is on the right
track or not.
Step 5 – Project
Closure of
Agile Project Management
This step is where the
complete project presented, where the project manager would evaluate and
identify things that have succeeded in the project and also things that have
failed as well.
Which Step Agile will be applied
Agile Project Management
will be applied in step 2 which is the project planning. The reason is as
mentioned above that Agile would really support the team in empowering
them along with their interactions, and also performing constant and immediate
delivery of value into a company. For this reason, it will be a strategic one
if the project will apply Agile Project Management to help the team in creating
the S.M.A.R.T goals of the project itself.
