Introduction of Environmental Ethics
The
aim of this paper is to discuss contemporary ethical dilemmas regarding
environment. There is abundance of information available regarding environment
protection. However huge amount of such information is also available which is
not based on facts and can be stated as fake information. The purpose of this
paper is to provide a way through which a piece of true information can be
identified. The paper has discussed the news regarding global warming which is
published in Economist newspaper and then the news is analyzed using various
internet sources available for checking its authenticity.
Analysis of Current News Regarding
Global warming
In
the Economist newspaper, the news was published recently regarding the rising
sea level due to global warming. In the news it is stated that in the past
several years global warming has increased up to a lot of extents due to which
the oceans around the world have to face a major cost. When the global
temperature increases, the glaciers which are present in the polar regions of
the world melt due to which the sea level increases. Not only global warming is
increasing sea level but also making the oceans more acidic and stormier (The Economist, 2019).
The
rising sea level should be a matter of concern for the people and authorities
of various countries because the cities which are present in the coastal areas
will be seriously affected by the rising sea levels. If the sea level keeps on
increasing at an alarming rate than the coastal cities will be at danger. A
major portion of the coastal cities will become a part of the sea if major
initiatives by different countries against global warming are not taken. The
news further stated that the number of storms in the oceans is increasing
because of global warming.
If
this news is analyzed then it can be said that this news is true and based on
facts. Global warming is a fact that cannot be denied. Various researchers,
through researches have shown that the glaciers and ice sheets that are present
in the polar regions of the world are melting. It means that when glaciers are
going to be melt, then the level of the ocean will increase as a result. In
many books and research articles the scientist and researchers have stated that
the sea level is increasing and is a major threat for the people who are living
in coastal areas (Amos & Umgiesser, 2018).
For
determining whether this news which is published in Economist is true or not,
various books & internet sources have been used to determine whether the
news published is true or not. The internet sources and books indicate that the
facts which are explained in the news are true and based on facts. The authenticity
of the news can be understood from the situation of Venice city which is
situated on the shores of Adriatic Sea. Venice city experiences flooding due to
increase in the sea level. In the year 1900 Venice city experience flooding 4
times a year, but now the city experience flooding 60 times a year. The reason
behind excessive flooding is climate change and the rise in global warming (Amos & Umgiesser, 2018).
From
the above situation, it can be seen that the global warming is a major cause of
rising sea level, and the authorities should take steps to control the rising
sea level. The news regarding rising sea levels which are published in
newspaper is mostly based on facts are true. The news is true because many
people who live in the coastal areas have begun experiencing the rise in sea
levels (Weissenberger & Chouinard, 2015).
Conclusion of Environmental Ethics
If
all the above analysis is summarized, then it can be said that this news is true and based on facts. Global
warming is a fact that cannot be denied. Various researchers through researches
have shown that the glaciers and ice sheets that are present in the polar
regions of the world are melting. It means that when glaciers are going to be
melt, then the level of the ocean will increase as a result. The authenticity
of the news can be understood from the situation of Venice city which is
situated on the shores of Adriatic Sea. Venice city experiences flooding due to
increase in the sea level.
