marijuana has known as the most
frequently consumed illegal drug in the United States. Even though, as
mentioned above, some states have been legalizing it, but still, the use is
only for medical and recreational. The work of marijuana in our brain could be
described as; the moment we smoke or consume marijuana, there are some
chemicals named cannabinoids would be released into our body, which included
THC as the main of those cannabinoids. Then, these cannabinoids would pass over
from our stomach or lungs and encounter into our blood. From our blood, these
cannabinoids would then travel to our brain along with the other parts of our
body. Now, THC has its function as some receptors inside our brain and would
able to create an essence of “high” for some people (Iversen).

Up till now, there no reported
death cases due to overdose of marijuana so far. This is due to the
consequences of using marijuana would be depended on the amount of time that we
spend on consuming it. For this reason, a large amount of time in consuming
marijuana still prosecuted in various countries. In addition to this, some
stronger types of marijuana could cause health damage which affects our
brief-term memory and also our capability as well. However, ever since
marijuana has introduced to the public, it has become further pervasive each
year regardless of how it has also been less addictive than coffee. In fact,
marijuana has been approved to treat some chronic pain, several sclerosis, as
well as chemotherapy effects (Jacques).
If there would be a legalization
of marijuana, then it would able to remove the consumption of opiods which has
been causing many death cases in the United States as the figure below
presents.

Meanwhile, how marijuana has been
considered much safer if compared with other drugs which already legalized
presented from the figure below.

With most of people in the United
States have claimed their agreements to legalized marijuana, here are some
beneficial points that would be achieved by its full legalization (White).
·
It would make marijuana to be more financially
feasible due to people will no longer need doctor prescriptions to consume it
·
The legalization of marijuana would open up huge
business opportunities for the people to sell marijuana, and also create jobs
opportunities in the official economy rather than of the illegal market place
·
The legalization of marijuana would also give
the tax revenue for the government from its distribution across the country as
well
·
A benefit in the medical section is aligned with
the fact that marijuana is safer than opiods which have been used typically for
pain killer and anesthesia
·
Marijuana could be a safer alternative than
alcohol
·
Marijuana could reduce the possibility of people
to consume tobacco since marijuana would not cause any lung, head, or neck
cancer as tobacco would
·
The legalization of marijuana would make the
police officers in the country to put their focus more on other important
things rather than arresting the people who consume marijuana
Despite the benefit points
mentioned above, it is undeniable if there would always be pros and cons to
everything. In the case of legalization for marijuana to be used by the people,
there are some detriments to the legalization itself as mention below (White).
·
Marijuana is still morally unacceptable whereas
some people still think marijuana as an illegal drug
·
Some critics have arrived in the legalization of
marijuana which mentioned it as a “gateway drug” which might lead people to try
in consuming other more hazardous drugs such as heroin or cocaine
·
The legalization of marijuana might able to
interfere with the medical procedures that have been practiced whereas some
doctors might would change their prescriptions for their patients and modify
with marijuana
·
It would be quite complicated for the government
to determine the new laws which would legalize the use of marijuana in each state
As a conclusion, we can assume
that, overall, marijuana could be considered as a relatively safe drug for
people to consume. The reason is obvious, marijuana is surely less detrimental
than other drugs that have already legalized these days. What’s more, marijuana
also has given some potential benefits to certain health level for some people over
its medical prescriptions. Besides that, with the fact that there are only
relatively small harms can be caused by the use of marijuana, it is quite worth
the benefit of decreasing the imprisonment along with the crippling fierce drug
alliances financed in part by the profit that would be gained from illegal
clear sales of marijuana.
Thus, in other words, the
legalization of marijuana would able to deliver more benefits rather than
detriments for both the people and also the country as well. However, the
government surely needs to make proper research and plan before finally will
release the legalization of marijuana. The reason is due to the government
needs to understand properly the benefits, the effects, and the consequences
that would appear with establishing the legalization of marijuana itself. In
simple words, if we take a look all of the aspects, legalization of marijuana would
surely be a great thing.
