General Introduction of Surin is a town in Thailand

Surin is a town in Thailand. Being the capital of Surin province, its population is small in comparison with the province. It lies to the east of Bangkok and is a little far from the Cambodian border.

It is a nondescript and quiet town. Its annual Elephant Roundup is the source of its face which occurs in November. The people of Surin have a very long relationship with elephants and they are known as the provincial icon. What makes it worth visiting Surin is a variety of jasmine rice, stunning silk fabrics, and Khmer ruins.

The story of Surin actually dates back to thousands of years when Kuay or Suay groups migrated to the Mekong River. The former group had significant talent in training and catching elephants. The town of Surin came into being during the Era of Khmer and it was neglected until 1763 when it was inhabited by the people of Muang Tee Village.

As all the participants of festival dress in a beautiful and decorative manner with mat-mi silk, a lot of merit is earned by the tradition which is passed down through several generations. This parade includes over 50 elephants which cross the Mun River. The monks who are ordinated have their heads shaved.

This festival adds to both historical and religious value and that is why it is very important in Surin.

Surin Silk Cloth and Jasmine Rice Fair: This festival is also very fun and famous among tourists because it features presentations, silk clothes, and agricultural products.
