Disney's (2010) "Tangled" and the Grimm brothers' "Rapunzel."

What are the similarities and differences between the two versions of this fairy tale? Why do these differences exist? How would audiences interpret these two different versions today?

The Tangled is based on tale of Rapunzel. There are many of the similarities and difference in both the stories. In both the stories of Rapunzel there are many similarities with colors as well as shapes that are connected with the theory of Molly Bang. The feeling of fear, curiosity, as well as anxiousness the tall, as well as sharp edged corners along with the darkness in the tower in version Zelinsky, reflect. In the story the author wants the audience to escape the feeling of fear as well as know that she is a protagonist the Rapunzel has a blonde color long hair. In the Disney version, there are many happier curves and shapes found. As the Disney version of Rapunzel is very interesting for the children as well as an adult. The picturization of the Disney version is very mesmerizing. The prince is the thief in both the version of Rapunzel. There is also a difference in both the version of Rapunzel story. In Disney version, there is a magic flower, but in Rapunzel version, there is no concept of the flower. For saving the queen, the magic flower is used.  In the tower life, the key difference is that protecting her secret as we see the Grimm version there is a huge stone.

At this point, the behavior of Gothel’s toward the Rapunzel is quite mysterious. As compared to the Disney version the Rapunzel is much more, intelligent, active as well as unwilling and the Gothel in Disney version is much more cunning or manipulative as well as sinister. In Disney version a pleasant whose dream of living in a castle by princess Rapunzel technically granted to the boy. Starting with the bout of assault their relationship is a slow burner. But this is not happening in the Grimm version where they do not go outside the tower. But they are happy couple through the outset. By Rapunzel escape as well as her new boyfriend the Disney Gothel is angry; the reason behind this is that he scared that she found her identity, as well as nothing, can change the mind of the girl. But in the Grimm’s version, the Rapunzel pregnancy and the Gothel is less brutal in this version. In Disney version Gothel’s limit the freedom of the princess Rapunzel. In the Disney version, Rapunzel tears are enough to bring back someone in life.

As it can see that both versions of the fairy tale story have the context with a little difference in the writing and scenes of the movie. In the Disney movie Tangled, there are more reasoning occur behind the situation in more detail, for example in the Tangle the magical flower is used to make a reason why she has a long hair, but in the Rapunzel, there is no reason for that.  The Disney make this movie more realistic, although it is based on the fantasy, but still, the depiction of the characters in the film is so brilliant that they the audience can get emotionally connect with the characters (Blogspot.com, 2015).

The difference between both of the version of the same story exit because Disney doesn't want to make the behavior of any characters extreme. In the Rapunzel, the characters of the mother were so evil in all of the sides, but in the Tangled, Disney not only gave the name to the mother but rather than making her extremely evil, they make her neutral to evil and selfish lady who thrive for the external beauty (Sylvanfire, 2016).

They Disney make the movie more into the fantasy by using the lanterns and her dream to seem them. Unlike Rapunzel, Disney not just focus on the beauty and problems of the princess but also put a lot of adventure and festivity in it to make adore her and in some way feel the connection with her. There is more suspense in the Tangled more as compared with the Rapunzel, for example in the Tangled at the end, the her lover finds her, that was the trick of Mother Gothel, but in the Rapunzel, the Flynn finds the princess by listening to her voice.

The audiences like the Tangled movie more than the older version Rapunzel because the Tangled movie not just take the fairy tale story, but also make it more fancy, adventurous and full of humor. The people of all ages from children to adults can joy and adore the Tangled movie, because of the liveliness go side by side with the love story. The animation in Tangled makes it look more realistic and beautiful. Although the audiences see the Rapunzel as the childish and girlish movie on the other side, the Tangle does not seem to target just girls but the character of the Flynn is so bold, charming and intelligent in the movie that makes is loveable for all kinds of audiences (Ailime.blogspot.com/, 2011).

The new version Tangle also broke the stereotype in the fairy tales that Prince is always a gentleman, who is very decent and there is nothing wrong with him. In the Rapunzel, there is a prince, who is the lover of the Rapunzel, but in the Tangled the boy who saves her and loved her was a thief, and it is very new to people to see any main lead in the story as thief. So the audiences no doubt finds the Tangled more adorable, humorous, adventures and romantic than the older version Rapunzel that is somehow is not very relatable for the audiences (Blogspot.com, 2015).
