It
is always great to watch any informative documentary on variety of issues and
subjects, but helps a person to enhance his/her knowledge. I really enjoyed this
documentary, as it had so many things to talk about. I was intrigued by both the
families with young deaf children and their conflict. It is quite sad to see a
difficult situation for the families’ whether they should choose to give their
children cochlear implants, surgically or they stay away from this choice.
Unfortunately, our systems did not have rights for all disabled people. We hear
so much about the rights of disable persons, but in practical terms, the things
have not evolved or cared about them as it should have been done. This particular
film is about identity and culture, pride and shame, belonging and being an
outsider. I had a hard time keeping my mind on it, as my brain kept trailing off
with new thoughts about life. When I look at these disable persons and their
families struggling with them, I feel that society has to stand up with them so
that life is made easier for them. We often take our lives for granted, but
when we look at these persons, we realize that how much blessed we are. I
emphasize to students and educators to show some empathy in their behavior,
when they look upon such matters, especially if they interact with disable
persons in their real lives.
