Many
among us when listening about the term organizational behavior, starts popping
in our mind that it must be related to the behavior of an organization but does
this mean it? Let’s find out what this term means and what kind of impact does
it have on an individual and team member?
Organizational
behavior is a contradiction. It doesn’t tell us about the behavior of an
organization but in reality, it is the study of the individual behavior in a
certain or particular organization setting. This whole term includes the study
of an individual that how he or she behaves alone along with the behavior of
individuals that how they behave in groups.
Reflective essay of Organizational Behavior
In
my own experience, I worked in a primary school for almost one month during
vacation and here I am going to share my experience that what I learned there
and how the organizational behavior impacted my thinking and behavior.
Individual of Organizational Behavior
In
the first place, it seemed much difficult and no doubt it is difficult to
manage small children especially at the primary stage. But as time started to
pass I learned many different things. As an individual, I had the
responsibility to deal with the class of almost 25 children all alone. I was
their class teacher as well so I had to manage everything inside the class as
well as outside the class. As an individual the organizational behavior had a huge
impact on my thinking as well as behavior, below mentioned are some of the
points in detail:
Responsible:
I was not that responsible but as soon as I started my job I became more
responsible in dealing with different things and doing them on time with honesty
and hard work. Some people or students become responsible during their studies
but what I believe is that I had a huge change in my behavior of being
responsible and all it was because of my job decision. Resigning from a job
doesn’t mean I have again become irresponsible, no I still am responsible and
this is the positive change that I feel in my behavior.
Confidence:
Confidence is present in almost every individual these days but the definition
of confidence varies from person to person. Confidence doesn’t mean just to
meet with different people around you or giving a bundle of presentations. It
means how you confidently deal with the problems and different situations
without getting worried or panic.
Dealing with problems:
As I started my job and came out of my comfort zone, I realized that there are
many problems with whom a person needs to deal on its own. Before stepping into
the carrier field no one ever thinks of having a bundle of problems with which
one has to deal because they are surrounded by friends and family. I learned to
tackle different problems on my own like how to teach students who are slow
learners, dealing with colleagues and making sure that every child is learning
daily. When parents come up with a bundle of complaints, I also learned to
tackle them.
Team member of Organizational Behavior
As
a team member, I was supposed to deal and manage with my colleagues according
to their schedule and timetable. I was the most junior one and I had no
experience before so I had to be with them to learn different things which are:
Managing time:
I never took deadlines that seriously but after entering the job field I came
to know how deadlines are supposed to be met. We used to have co-ordination
meetings to make different lesson plans through which every teacher comes to
know what he or she has to teach in the class. So I became punctual and
responsible as well while working with my colleagues.
Communication skills:
My communication skills improved a lot. As a student, we talk randomly with our
classmates but as I entered the field I realized how important and necessary it
is that how you communicate with the colleagues.
Roles:
Every teacher was assigned different duties to perform their roles to make
students even better. We used to have different clubs in school like writing,
speaking, learning of different languages and through these clubs I came to
know that how can I make myself a better teacher when I saw different teachers
that how they deal or teach with the students. This is another positive thing
that I learned and it was a change in my behavior.
Recommendations of Organizational Behavior
There
are some points which I noticed while working in the school, although I had a
very short time of teaching there in that time, I learned a lot and also felt
that some changes are supposed to be done to make teachers and organizations
both better.
Individual:
Organization pays you for work not if they are paying you means they have
bought you. They used to put so much of the burden on one teacher according to
me which was not even possible for a person to deal with it. Notebook checking,
soft board maintenance, noting down the behavior of every student, making
different plans, arranging activities, teaching more than one subject and
taking substitutions in different classes as well is not an easy to go thing
for a person. They should increase the staff and try to give some relaxation
and comfort zone to a person.
Team member:
There are many teachers in different schools and the same was the case in my
school as well who don’t take work seriously and they just put the burden on
the junior colleagues which I think is very unmannered and against the rules.
Such teachers need to be noticed on a regular basis because as they become senior,
they think that their responsibility and burden have been reduced and they can
order any junior staff to do their work. Every teacher needs to do their work
on their own.
My
last point covers both the groups, the teacher needs to be respected. I was the
junior-most teacher and it doesn’t mean at all that anyone can misbehave with
me at any time. Everyone deserves respect and they need to be treated according
to the other teachers.
