a) It
is important to understand that security and safety issues have always been a
threat for school campuses, and threat has even got worse with the passage of
time. There was a time when technology had not taken so much space in our
lives, so different tasks were difficult to complete. But now with the essence
of technology, nothing is difficult. CCTV cameras are one of the best
technology for safety and security purposes. It keeps a constant eye on public
so that their activities and actions can be noticed and if anyone is having an
intention to do something wrong, or if any incident happens unluckily, then
CCTV cameras can be helpful in both cases. The above picture is showing the
presence of CCTV cameras installed at different parts of a building which means
that every side and corner around the building is on surveillance so that any
wrong action or activity can be captured, and risk is mitigated before
happening anything. These CCTV cameras are great to keep an eye for the
security and safety of the campus, and if any bad event is noticed, it is
immediately shared with the police.
b)
(i)
The main objective of the control activity is to keep an eye on the
surroundings of the campus building, both from inside or outside. The primary
goal is to ensure that any people willing to do any crime must know that they
are being watched by these CCTV cameras.
(ii)
It is important to understand that action taken afterwards an incident happened
is not worth; rather it is vital to deter crime, before its happening. So, any
kind of crime can be spotted by these CCTV cameras and the surveillance team
can immediately contact with the law enforcement authorities to take prompt
action. For instance, if a student is seen on CCTV camera that he has entered
the campus main gate having a gun in his hand, then the surveillance team
should contact police and security to find that guy as soon as possible.
(iii)
The control activity is properly maintained like there are a surveillance and
maintenance room, where screens are installed for each security camera. Two
persons are on shift for the monitoring purpose, so they monitor the footage of
these CCTV cameras so that they can deter crime or keeps an eye on anything
wrong being happened. The daily footage of all CCTV cameras is recorded in a
computer, and footage is saved for 1 year's time. After one year, the old
footage is deleted, and new footage is saved.
(iv)
First of all, I would like to check the working condition of all CCTV cameras,
whether all of them are working or not. If cameras are not properly working,
then there is no benefit to installing such a security system. Moreover, I
would ask someone to do any wrong action or activity to check the efficacy of
the monitoring team, which is monitoring these CCTV cameras 24/7. Such methods
will allow me to measure the efficiency and efficacy of the CCTV security
system
2. Control designed to mitigate risks of
missing opportunities
a) The
control design mentioned in this picture is indicating a positive and good gesture
from the campus, as it shows a sign for physically disabled persons to park
their vehicles, bikes or wheelchairs, etc. So, this control is there to help in
happening something good for the people with disability.
b)
(i)
The major objective of this control is to help people with physical
disabilities to get parking at priority. A normal person can wait for his turn
or look around for suitable parking, but a disabled person cannot do these
things. So, a parking facility has been dedicated to them.
(ii) The risk that the control activity is designed
to mitigate is the provision of the facility, to the physically & mentally
challenged people, for developing and building the confidence among them. On
campus, the physically & mentally disabled people are if treated unequal,
there are the chances that they loss hope and the self-belief for doing
something in life. The risks associated with this control activity may include losing
the hope, confidence and self-trust for not having the equal opportunities like
the normal people do have for on campus activities. This is the reason for
initiating the control activity.
(iii)
The control activity operates with proper rules and regulations. It is quite
clear that when a sign mentioned in the picture is present at any spot on the
campus, and then it means that disabled persons will be dealt with priority.
Even the campus has made wheelchair friendly main entrance as well as classroom
entrance so that disabled people can roam around like other normal students in
the campus.
(iv)
If I would be an internal auditor, then I would like to check this control
design by starting from the main gate. If the main entrance of the campus has
any separate entry for disabled persons so that they can easily come in. Then I
would also observe the parking lot specified for the disabled person, whether
everyone is following the rule or not
