Human beings have to live
together and they are dependent on each other for so many things. People do
need shelter, food or clothing to survive on the earth, but there is one more
thing, which is also very critical and that is the essence of developing
relationships with others. If a community has to survive and thrive, then it is
vital for its residents to develop a strong social relationship with each other
so that all of them are collectively moving forward to keep things on the right
track. To understand this concept more, there is a great concept of restorative
practices. It is a field of study, which allows individuals as well as
communities to develop strong relationships with each other. The great thing
about restorative practices is that these practices not only help to develop
strong relationships, but such practices also help to resolve conflicts amongst
individuals and communities so that any kind of severe consequences can be
avoided. Looking at this perspective, it can be said that the role of
restorative practices can be critical in the education sector (Elias, 2016)
In any educational setting like
school or college, students from different backgrounds and mindsets have to
study together, and their strong relationship is critical for their learning
and growth in an educational environment. The students need to develop a sense
of respect for each other and avoid any conflicts so that they can focus on
their studies more than anything else. Still, if things are not going well or
any conflicts are arising, then the use of restorative practices can be
important to deal with such situations because they will control the damage in
so many ways. There can be various methods of restorative practices, which can
be used to deal with issues and prevent any kind of relationship damages if
they are happening between teachers or happening between students and teachers.
If restorative approaches will be used in a school setting, it will result in
great benefits such as improved performance as well as increased attendance.
The students would feel more included in the process, and their response would
be more positive in this regard. The restorative practices will stop any
conflicts to happen in the first place, and still, if any conflict will arise,
it would be less destructive than any other situation because students would
have learned to develop a better bond with each other. It also allows people to
engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve their issues and conflicts. So, its
importance in any educational setting is great, if things are implemented
properly (Lyubansky, 2016)
After looking at different
aspects of restorative practices, it can be concluded that both individuals and
communities should understand the concept of restorative practices, as it can
be helpful to develop great relationships. Same approaches and methods can be
effectively used in any educational setting, as it would help students to
develop better relationships as well as deal with their existing conflicts.
