In the shared circumstances, the
best possible option for Michael is to blow the whistle. Whistleblowing is a
business term commonly used to represent voice raised by the employees against
unethical and illegal actions taken by the management and authorities at the
workplace. Whistleblowers provide evidence and testimony to provide strength to
their claim. Whistleblowers give importance and preferences to the ethical
actions as they stand for the positive reputation and application of ethical
plans in the organizations in front of the world. In past, whistleblowing trend
was quite uncommon in the organizations because of fear of firing and
enforcement by the management or supervisors (capsim, 2018). However, now
organizations are providing support and safety to the whistleblowers to
encourage ethical practices in the organization and to control illegal actions
of powerful authorities in the organizations working at the national and local
level. There are many reasons for the motivation of whistle blowers.
Whistleblowers usually take motivation because of their importance given to the
ethical and moral values rather than monetary benefits. Whistleblowers always
give importance to what seems better for the development and progress of their
community and organizations. The person committed to the moral values and moral
reasoning take actions against unethical and immoral practices and actions of
other people to make society and workplace safe and free from unethical
actions. Moreover, another factor of motivation relates to rewards and
incentives. Sometimes government officers and regulatory authorities introduce
rewards and benefits packages for the employees who raise their voices against
unethical actions and immoral activities such as illegal use of power to
influence work life of other employees and making frauds in the finance
department. Whistleblowing is justified in all circumstances when employee or
whistleblower have all evidence and solid proof behind the situation or
unethical action (Gurnani, 2015).
