Every
good plan in life comes with an outcome or a result, and every well managed professional
plan comes with a great successful result.
If an
individual wants to survive in life and to be successful, every individual
should set and follow a professional plan for future goals and targets, whether
it is on a personal or professional level or any other life aspect (Rimmer, 2018).
In the
last few weeks, we started our MSC master program course in management, and in
my point of view, I believe it is a big step further to self-progress and to
accomplish one of my goals and dreams. I am from Kuwait, I studied business
administration, and I graduated from the University of Greenwich in 2010. Currently,
I am an administrative coordinator employer in Kuwait university. I have almost
eight years of work experience between admission, registration and
administration, and of course, management. One of my future goals and ambitions
is to be an academic.
The
minute I arrived in the UK, specifically Brighton, my whole life changed, every
routine I am used to, and every single detail is perfectly different compared
to our lifestyle back in Kuwait, the atmosphere, the weather, the people and
the various different nationals who live in Brighton.
First
Day at the university was a bit shocking and exciting. My classmates wherefrom
various international countries, different cultures, different backgrounds,
many languages, and plenty of different approaches, aims, and skills.
As an
individual mature self-focused person every period of my life, I learn more
about myself and knowing it better and knowing others around me, I am fully
aware of my strengths and weaknesses and always wanting to challenge myself for
better progression and improvements.
As we
begin to attend our teaching classes I have known some of the students around
me, sometimes it is hard for me to start first conversation and to communicate
and interact with others because I am a very shy person and I don’t feel
comfortable while I am around strangers or in public, second it is hard for me
to be fully confident about myself when I am the center of attention, for
example in public speaking I always tend to be nervous and I stumble in words
when speaking it is definitely not my comfort zone.
Later
on it was mandatory for us to work in groups and to socialize with other
nationals, most of our course work is conducted and produced within teamwork
and there was no chance for us to choose our team members and the selection was
randomly, one of the major weaknesses that I prefer to work individually rather
than working in teams because it is hard to manage your time with other group
members time to keep up with work assigned and meet together in order to
complete the tasks, not to mention the language was a bit confusing sometimes
to understand, personally I tend to a very flexible person while working in
groups in term of tasks and time given to meet, I also always loving and ready
to help others around me and it is very easy for me to blend in and to adapt
fast .
In this
experience while working with teams I realized that I am not competing with
others, but I am competing myself against all the responsibilities that I am in
charge of and completing all tasks at due dates, and I also was trying to
improve my communicating skills in order to be an active beneficial part of the
group, this experience also taught me to be more organized and well managed in
terms of time and work not to forget that it improved my English language
skills it also enhances and focuses on each members strengths while
contributing together which means that working in multi-cultural teams helped
us to be more centered and focused about self-progress on each person's skills
by helping each other’s to overcome weaknesses and complete tasks successfully
and professionally.
Not to
forget the power of optimism and motivation around us from the teammates that
will raise the level of your performance and confidence and will lead to great
outcomes and results (Rock & Grant, 2016).
This
whole experience led us to a better self-awareness, to know ourselves better,
learn from each other, sharing thoughts, ideas and opinions to strengthen the
case or the work materials, we also gained some leadership skills through
managing teams, last but not least this phase was very useful because I
developed my writing skills, I always had a passion for writing, and in the
last few weeks I learned lots on tips about the academic writing and how to
write in a proper professional way.
