The management of any industry when
they want to improve their performance and decision making, they prefer to use
a decision support system to evaluate the decision-making skills in the
organization. The same can be said about the steel industry as well. For
instance, the management has the responsibility of identifying issues in
different processes associated with production and make rational decisions
about these issues. Through the use of a number of support systems for making
decisions, the management can assess issues closely and create solutions to
resolve the issues. In the industry, some support systems include multi-criteria
decision making, LCA, and Kosimeus among others. An example of this can be
taken from the Nippon Steel organization which uses ALIS as a support system
for making decisions. This system is utilized for identifying issues with furnaces.
If there are issues with furnaces then employees will be adversely affected. Through
the use of this model, issues can be identified and effective solutions can
also be created for enhancing the performance of employees. Through the use of
this support system, the results obtained by the organization were positive. In
addition to it, the performance of workers was enhanced.
Another system used in the company
while producing steel products is the plant of NKK. This model is based on
computer knowledge which directly relates to the efficiency of the production
system and Nippon got feasible and reasonable results in the production. Besides
Nippon, there are several other examples in the industry of steel production
which can be taken in the context of improvement through the implementation of
system support for making decisions.
