With the “Medicare for All” plan,
senior citizens were enabled to enroll in Medicare and experience of security
of knowing that they could receive reliable and quality care in spite of their
financial or health status. In fact, they have the option of receiving care
from both private hospitals and physicians. In addition to it, they can also
take the option of deputizing the insurers for administering benefits achieved
from Medicare. However, veterans are not provided with the same options. It is
important for them to receive the same options so that they can privatize their
healthcare.
Initially, the issues with the
healthcare of veterans were revealed in 2014 when it was determined that
several facilities of veterans were not being provided with proper care. It was
identified by a poll referred to as Concerned Veterans for America that
eighty-eight percent of veterans agreed that it is critical for eligible
veterans to receive proper medical care from the source they find suitable. In
addition to it, ninety-five percent agreed that veterans should be given the
option of choosing their own source of medical care. Although veterans are
satisfied with the healthcare they receive from V.A. but the waiting list
enough to argue that veterans have the right of choosing the source they find
suitable.
In general, waiting lists are very
long and it takes a long time for veterans to finally receive medical care. In
order to address this issue, either reforms should be implemented in V.A. which
enable the association to ensure that veterans are being treated properly or
medical care should be privatized which can enable veterans to receive quality
care without facing significant issues. Other than long waiting lists, some
studies have also identified the issue of quality within the quality care which
is provided by the V.A.
These are the reasons why medical
care to veterans must be privatized. There are two solutions which can be
implemented by the federal government. First of all, healthcare can be
privatized and secondly, reforms can be implemented in the V.A. which can help
in resolving the existing quality issues. It is important, however, to
understand that reforms must be capable of resolving the existing issues which
are existing in the association and are preventing veterans from receiving the
quality medical care that they deserve. These are the solutions which can be
considered by the federal government and the most feasible solution should be
implemented (NYTimes, 2016).
