Almost
three decades ago, Virgin Atlantic was started by Richard Branson. But why did
he even enter the travel industry?
Richard
Branson explained in a new film by HP Matter, this decision came to him during
a journey. He had a trip to British Virgin Islands and he was stuck in Puerto
Rico. He explains that they didn’t have enough passengers for warranting the
flight. Just because of insufficient passengers, he had to suffer. It was like
when the airlines couldn’t benefit, they threw the passengers away.
And
who wouldn’t really suffer from such a treatment? What if your crew leaves you
in the middle of ocean and it is freezing in the water? Would you like it? No,
there is not even the slightest chance that one will like this predicament. After
that, Richard thought about starting his own airline. An important reason why
his airline was successful was because passengers could feel valued.
It
is true even today. There are still many airlines that don’t care about their
passengers. In fact, they just care about their profits. They make their
passengers suffer because they have no entertainment. Moreover, they have to
sit in uncomfortable seats for hours to reach their destination.
However,
it is not the same with Virgin Airlines. Even though Richard is originally in
the entertainment industry, he still does a great job in satisfying passengers.
Passengers don't have to be uncomfortable as they travel through Virgin
Airlines because they have everything they need that other airlines don't
really offer. For instance, it has individual TV screens for offering
entertainment to passengers.
Richard
believes that through caring about his passengers, the airline can satisfy the
passengers. Furthermore, by customizing the experience of passengers, the
airline gains their trust.
