Essay on big city (Urbanization) and its problems

Due to the increasing development of the cities and the urbanization more and more resources are utilized and more of the land is utilized to develop the infrastructure and less land is remain for the agricultural practices. Urbanization has helping the population by providing the basic needs and necessities to the population but urbanization is also creating problems because more urbanization more population, more utilization of the resources, the danger will occur that these resources might become scarce for the future generation. The main aim of this study is to define the problems that occur due to the development of the megacities and the megalopolis and the effects that the development of these cities have on the population and on the region as well. The main objective is to define the megalopolis areas of the world, from where the development of the megacities started and what will be r might be the consequences with the development of the cities and the urbanization and the modernization. Because big cities have big problems that are mostly ignored during the development of the cities and these problems will increase in the future that are neglected now. So before developing a city some problems should be kept in mind while developing a big city.

Introduction of the big city (Urbanization) and its problems:

According to (Frampton, 1999), the era of the modernization and he urbanization has started within the USA and the development of the large cities and the utilization of the technology and the resources, all these were first started in the USA. USA was the first region who was called a megalopolis because of the development of the large cities in it and the development of the industries and migration of the people from other cities towards USA due to its rapid development. At that time this development was very pleasing for the people of the USA and the government because this development was making their economy strong and USA was considered as one of the most developed country of that time, but this rapid development has created problems for USA and its government. Due to the development of many are cities in the USA, the structure of USA has become complex and the life has become more complex due to the large number of cities. USA is a vibrant place that is filled with different kind of entertainments like the amusement parks, museums as well as other cultural attractions including the theaters, the night clubs and the restaurants.

The population of USA has a variety of people belonging to different cultures and have different ethics. But now the USA is facing many problems due to the urbanization including: Fiscal that is one of the major problem because they are feeling difficulty in paying the basic services to the residents of the USA like the trash removal, the public education, street maintenance, policing and snow removal. Moreover in the urban neighborhood there is the risk of the poor health because the residents living in those areas do not have proper supermarkets and lack of the parks and the crime rates have increased in those areas and this results in stress. Moreover the problem that is rising in USA is crowding and the crowding of the population is of two types in the cities. One type of crowding is the residential crowding, in which the large number of people or population is living in a small space, the streets of the cities are filled with large buildings and row houses and the place is overcrowded with houses and buildings.  And the second type of crowding is the household crowding in which the houses are in the form of the dwelling units and due to the lack of the space small houses are developed in the suburb area of the region and this forces many different people to live in close houses and most of the people that have low incomes mostly live in these kinds of the dwelling units.

This also has increased the percentage of the homeless children and this percentage has increased up to 1.6 million. This percentage has increased due to the lack of the services and the basic necessities that are not provided to the people resulting in the death of many people and making the children homeless. And due to the lack of the services many health problems and issues are also rising like the severe mental illness and unemployment, domestic violence, HIV positive and military veterans. Big cities have big problems and all these problems should be seen before developing a city or an urbanized area. (saylordotorg, 2019)

According to (Koolhas, 1994) he said that the big mistakes are the connection to the bigness. The bigness or big cities are a place where the landscape is disarray, there is disassemble, disclamation, disassociation, because when the people are attracted to the big cities, a requirement to fulfill the needs of the citizens and the utilization of the resources is necessary. And when resources are utilized and the landscapes are used to develop the infrastructures, the disarray of the landscape occurs a disassociation occurs between the utilization of the resources and the development of the infrastructures on the landscape because the utilization of the resources and the land exceeds the rate of the replenishment and these resources cannot be replenish if they are utilized this fastly. So different problem occurs due to the organization.

According to another scholar (Shane, 2005), he said that if you want a subtle development of the city and want the city to be a balanced urbanized area then the term and the phenomena of the “Heterotopia” is used. As heterotopia is a place that is composed of different places and in that place there is a balance between the consumption the resources and their production. Balance of the resources and equal amount of consumption and production is necessary to keep the city running and is important for its economy as well. So resources should be utilized in this way that they should not be scarce and are saved for the future generation so that the future generation do not have to suffer due to the lack of the resources. To solve the problems of the big cities are proper strategic city plan or design should be developed in order to protect the city from the big risks and big loss, a city should have a balance of all the things and should have political and economic stability and this stability will be possible if the resources available in the city should be properly utilized.

Further Shane said that Heterotopies may be a delusion if there will be no balance between the resources and the production and the consumption. Heterotopia may also been an imagination if the resources are not maintained properly. It will remain an imagination of the perfect city which has no flaws and we should make this fantasy and imagination a reality by making a balanced city that is subtle and have enough resources for every citizen.

Conclusion of the big city (Urbanization) and its problems:

From the above text it is observed and concluded that due to the urbanization and modernization many problems have occurred in the city and these problems are occurred due to the overcrowding and over population and the utilization of the resources because the resources are mis used in most of the cities and these resources cannot be replenished as soon as they are utilized with this rapid speed, so that the resources should be used properly with proper management of the resources and a proper plan should be devalued to utilize the resources. It is also seen that the big city problems are not a permanent problems for the citizens and the government and the region. These problems can be overcome by proper implementation of the policies. Proper government policies should be used so that these policies can be implemented in the megacities and the people should follow these policies in order to maintain a megacity. The big city problems is one of the major issue in the word right now and the cities and the government is focusing on the urbanization of the cities and developing more and more megacities and megalopolis by ignoring the consequences that will occur in the future and that can destroy the city but the government and the large cities and the citizens are ignoring all the problems and the consequences and they are just focusing to compete in the race of the developed cities and wanted to make their economy strong.
