In this paper, the author has demonstrated some
important properties of rock through the help of digital rock Physics. At the
start of the paper, the author has given a proper explanation about the digital
rock physics and also how, through this, it will become extremely easy to
evaluate the main properties of the rock. Moreover, this technology is
completely based on rigorous numerical simulation. Through these simulations,
it will become extremely easy to analyze the main properties of the rock. These
simulations are produced through the help of 3D imaging of the rocks by CT
scanning. In this paper, the author has given comprehensive information about
the feasibility study on DRP technology and through this how it is possible to
evaluate the main properties of rock.
In
the next section of the report, the author has given information about porosity
and permeability in detail with comprehensive information. Both of these
properties are extremely important for the field of industry and environmental
application. For that case, there is a need for a complete analysis of all
factors related to these two properties. It can be noted that the variability
can be formed through the help of two factors, and these two factors are
explained by the author named as variation in digenesis, and the next one is
variation in deposition are mentioned by the author.
He has also mentioned that one of the best ways to
measure permeability during the experiment is through the help of physical core
plugs. It can be noted that it is extremely difficult to estimate the
petrophysical properties of the rock through the help of digital imaging. For
that case, there is the use of tomographic imaging to get perfect samples of
the rocks. The author has mentioned that, through the help of this approach, it
will be quite easy to understand the correlation between the pores of the rock.
Moreover, it will also be possible to get a comprehensive analysis of the small
pores of the carbonate rocks.
For conducting the experiments, the author has
adopted a numerical method. It can be noted that it is extremely difficult to
evaluate the 3D pores space without any kind of adjustment. But these pores can
be evaluated through the help of a simple and robust computational tool. It
will provide complete information about the pores present on the rocks.
Moreover, the author has also mentioned the numerical
technique for explaining the single flow of the properties of rock, but the
simulation was not proper at the start. But through the use of the Bosl method,
it will become extremely easy to simulate the results. There was still one of
the huge problems and it was related to the reconstruction of the 3D pores of
the rocks. This can be done by elaborating on the 2D microscopic image of the
rock.
The author has also examined the samples under the
laboratory with the help of three shale samples that are selected from the experiment.
The author has explained the rate of porosity and permeability of the different
pores of the rock.
Moreover, the author has also calculated the values
of permeability and velocity through the help of the numerical method. It can
be noted that DRP is one of the best technology when it is combined with other
microscopy tools for evaluating the pores on the rock (Dvorkin, Walls and Tutuncu).
