Peter is
actually a conservative person and he attempts to make every process at his
organization balanced. He doesn’t want to rush anything and that is one of his
most prominent strengths. However, it is also his weakness. He doesn’t want to
involve any other person than the ones whom he trust. His lack of trust is also
a weakness. It is understandable that he wants to ensure his money is not
invested in anything that can drag the company down. Peter values his employees
and it is his strength but he is quite slow-paced when something involves
money, which is his weakness.
Was Scorecard too slow to acquire other businesses? If so, why? Also,
if so, what type of employee could Alan and HR have recruited to help Peter?
Scorecard was slow in acquiring the
other business and it was because of the eventuality that Peter wanted. He
didn’t want to rush the process of acquiring the business. Furthermore, he also
kept all of his executives and even Alan in the dark about the situation. Actually,
the possibility of HR and Alan hiring a professional consulter to assist Peter
is very low because Peter has the most power in the whole organization and what
he decides, every other person has to obey. In fact, Peter was adamant about
not involving others and even Alan.
Did the search go too fast? Too slow? When should have HR started
getting involved in the search
From
the point of view of executives in the organization, the search for an
acquisition of another company was very slow. Actually, not only the search was
slow but it was like a lone patrol without the assistance of any other member. The
search team consisted of only three members and leaking the information was
strictly prohibited. Peter had stopped Alan from interfering on the behalf of
HR. Maybe, if the HR has gotten involved from the very start, Peter could have
disclosed the information and involved Alan as well. However, the fact Peter
had stopped Alan is still there.
How could have Alan and HR proactively helped Peter during the search
process? Or did they do the best they could have given Peter’s disposition?
Peter had stopped Joe from
disclosing any type of information to anybody including executives and Alan. This
caused the whole faculty of HR to remain unaware of what was going on with the
search team. It can be said that HR and Alan did their best in intervening and
helping Peter. However, he just shunned them and emailed Alan that his advances
were becoming irritating to him. Peter had writer that it was best if he stayed
out of this process and the soon to be acquired business had a good flow of
human resource management. It was the last straw for Alan to stop. He had done
his best in asking Peter who was adamant about carrying out this mission alone.
How could have Peter better utilized Alan and the rest of HR? What were
the negative things that occurred because Peter didn’t fully utilize HR during
this process?
Peter could have let Alan know about
his ministrations with the search team. If he had let Alan understand the human
resource functions of the soon to be acquired company, Alan could have studied the
company and formulated plans to handle the human resource of Partners. It was
the confidential information that prevented all the departments from bracing
for the impact of the newly acquired organization. Alan could have also helped
Peter by guiding when they were ready to purchase the company.
