How
to start a compare and contrast essay?
We
need a clear organizational structure for our compare and contrast essay to
make it more effective. You can use your ideas for comparison of your subjects.
You can write compare and contrast essay by using the following steps and
format:
1)Pre-writing:
In
this step, we have to select our topic but if you are assigned by any topic
then use this topic and make a search on it for finding differences and
similarities between them. Now before start writing, we have to brainstorm. You
can use even diagrams for writing your data as well as you can use a rough
paper. Draw three columns on your paper, the first one is for the difference of
your first subject, the second one is for differences of the second subject,
and in the third column mention similarities of your subjects.
2)Thesis
statement:
In
this step, you need to find a thesis statement for your essay. This statement
will define the relationship between your subjects. A thesis statement is very
important for every essay so you should have to mention this statement in this
essay as well.
3)Outline:
After
collecting data and developing a thesis statement, you have to follow the
standard format as given below:
·
Introduction of your essay
·
Body of your essay
·
Conclusion of your essay
4)Introduction
of your essay:
You
have to seek the attention of your readers by setting the tone of your essay.
In this part of your essay, you have to mention the definition of your subjects
for introducing them. All important introductory information should be
mentioned here. After writing the introduction you have to write a thesis statement
at the end of this paragraph.
5)Body
of your essay:
In
this section of your essay, you have to write similarities as well as
differences here. Always use topic sentences before starting the comparison.
For example, you are writing differences for two different countries. Your
topic is the legal structure you can start by writing about the legal structure
of each country. Then after writing one difference between these countries now
you have to mention at least one similarity between them. Try to write three
paragraphs at least by comparing your subjects. Follow this format of writing
and write several points of differences and similarities. You can also use
transition words for linking your paragraphs. Each paragraph starts by using a
topic sentence if you want to make your essay more effective. Try to make your
essay more informative.
6)Conclusion:
This
is the final part of your essay, you have to summarize the similarities and
differences of your subjects first. Now write about what is issue and why they
happen. You have to summarize your body paragraphs here. After summarizing,
repeat your thesis statement in this section but make sure that wordings and
syntax are different from those that are used in your introductory paragraph.
Take keywords and phrases that are related to the introductory paragraph and
body of your essay. Don't introduce any new topic here because you have to
write a conclusion more concise and clarified. If you are writing an essay for
informing your readers about the comparison of your subjects then you have to
mention it in the body section in detail. But here you have to tell the reason
why this comparison is important, why you compare differences and similarities
of your subjects you have to write all reasons.
