In any sort of movie
review, you write down all the ideas, thoughts, and feelings you get while
watching a movie into words. So it sometimes looks strenuous to convey what you
feel in words. Therefore, writing a movie review seems a difficult task. But
for everything, there is a way to get work done. By this blog you will know how
you can write a movie review and also how can organize your thoughts and idea
into a proper shape of review.
How
to Write a Movie Review?
Watch Full Movie:
You have to watch the
full movie if you haven’t seen it before. And if you, it would be preferred to
watch it again. Because this time, you will watch it from a different
perspective or maybe as a critic’s point of view.
Watch
Documentary:
Do watch short
documentaries that have been made on them. This will also help you in how
people perceive this movie. You will also get some additional information
through documentaries. Watch 2 or 3 documentaries from different sources to get
a clear idea.
Take
Notes While Watching Movie:
While watching movies and
documentaries, always have a pen and a book to make notes. Whenever you get
some idea or thought on any of the scenes, stop the video and write it down in
a notebook. Note downtime, scene, location, dialogues etc. This will help you
when you get into your writing process. Most of the great movie reviewers do
the same.
Consider
Your Audience:
Most importantly, always
consider your target audience. What type of review you are going to make
depends directly on what type of audience you are writing for. Whether you are
writing for fans, news, or for any blog, the factors will vary according to
your audience.
Perform
Research and Gather Information:
Watching movies or
documentaries will not be enough. So research your movie. It is important too. Search
out details like:
·
Who is the writer of this movie?
·
Who directed this?
·
What is the name of the producer and
production house?
·
What kind of work and movies they produced
before?
·
Actors/actresses’ name, plot, characters,
events etc
These
all details should be listed in your notes. You must gather information about
everything.
Analyze
The Movie:
The better you understand
the movie, the better you can write. So, if you think you are not getting
something or any scene of the movie at once, watch that again. Your better
understanding will turn into a better movie review. From start to end, analyze the whole movie. Better
clarity makes it easy for you to write a review.
How to organize it?
Make
Outline:
After
listing all information, now it is time to outline in what order you are going
to write. Give a sequence and order to your gathered information. You can give
it an order like an order of the film. You can write a review in a sequential
order of the movie or you may give a general review.
Complete
Writing Process:
Consider
your outline and then start writing. Your all paragraphs must have topic
sentences. So that your audience can get an idea about what scene you are going
to discuss in this paragraph.
Express
Your Opinion:
Always
express your own opinion. What did you feel after watching a movie? Either it
was a good one or not? At which point the scene could be improvised? You also
write your feelings like either it makes you emotional or make you smile. In
simple words just write down what you think about the movie.
Support
Your Criticism:
If
you criticize something in a movie, then do support your argument by mentioning
the scene which you don’t like. You can also criticize the movie by comparing
it with the previous movies of the same products and also with other movies.
Don’t
Give Spoiler:
Don’t
ruin the fun of others by giving spoiler in excitement. It is a quality of
greater reviewers that they keep everything in a balance. They know what
quantity of information should get provided and what to keep secret. So go in a
balance, don’t give less don’t give more. Give your best but in balance.
Proof-Read
Movie Review:
Reread
your complete movie review. If there is an error in a review, then correct it.
Proof-reading is a mandatory thing to do whenever you write. No matter what you
are writing, either it is a blog article or either a class assignment. Never
leave your work unchecked.
Be
Your Voice:
Be
unique and be different. Don’t copy other reviewers, because they have their
own opinion. So be genuine in your movie review. This makes you unique and
people don’t want to read any copycat reviewers. Be yourself and write freely
what you feel.
