Before writing the summary we have to know about what is a summary?

Definition of summary:

We write the main idea briefly, without adding details and needless information. We write main points in summary by rephrasing or changing them into our wordings. A summary is short in length as compared to the original length of the document. How to write a summary of the article?

Step 1: By following the above guidelines you have to collect all important information, then outline it without considering any example or detail in your outline.

Step 2: Write an introduction to your article topic. Summarize your topic in your introductory part. This paragraph should be consist of in-text citation of the source, information about the author as well as the main idea of the topic. The main idea must consist of the following points:

·         Collect important information related to your title.

·         Find the date of publication of your article.

·         Find the name of the place where this article was published.

·         Type of your article like argumentative, literacy, etc.

·         Note the arguments that are repeated in your article.

Step 3: After introducing your topic and giving the main idea you have to find out important and repeated arguments. For that purpose, you have to read your article again but this time you have to read it carefully. Read your article for collecting supported arguments. By using the following tips you can identify important arguments in your article:

·         Highlight the topic sentence of all paragraphs.

·         After finding the topic sentence, you have to write this sentence by using your voice in another rough copy.

·         After finishing the highlighting, write these topic sentences in a sequence.

·         Now take the main idea of every topic sentence and write it in your own words.

·         When you are writing make sure that you are not using the same words, sentence structure as in your original text.

·         If there are unimportant details you find in your collecting information then leave it. Don't write this needless information in your summary.

·         Try to write your summary as simple and short as possible.

·         Your summary should b short but must be understandable.

Step 4: Now write your remaining summary write the thesis statement after completing the introductory part. A thesis statement is the most important part of your summary because a thesis statement is also called the main idea of your article so try to mention it in clear words.
