Blog on How to write a research paper without plagiarism?

Category: Education Paper Type: Essay Writing Reference: APA Words: 800

To learn how to write a plagiarism-free research paper, first, we need to understand what actually plagiarism is? The word stands for the definition which explains as copying someone’s idea or word in the same way they have used without acknowledging them. It is considered cheating. And is often taken as a serious step while writing a research paper or any academic work. Having plagiarism in a work is similar to stealing as you are stealing someone else's work without referencing them properly. It is like the copy-and-paste phenomenon. It is not always necessary that plagiarism occurs intentionally but sometimes can also appear unintentionally because of your carelessness. As plagiarism is considered somewhat equivalent to a crime, there is a high for avoiding it.

Plagiarism in a work is very unethical and it falls on the ground of ethical principles. As said, plagiarism is like stealing someone’s work or idea. This is wrong in all situations and is highly unacceptable. No circumstance allows you to copy-and-paste someone's work though you are doing it for good grades or for your profession. Applying plagiarism in your work not only takes your respect away in front of your colleagues or fellow students but also if the original writer finds out about it, he has the full rights to take legal action against it which can result in a major fine to you.

There are certain ways in which it is possible to avoid plagiarism in your work. The first is “citing the sources”. If you have taken someone's idea and you are using it in your research paper, it will cause plagiarism. But if you will cite the source from where it was taken and give the original writer some credit then it does not count as plagiarized rather is taken as influential. The citation should be done in the proper way like adding the name of the author, mentioning the year of the publishing, the title of the source, etc.

The next way in which you can avoid plagiarism in your research paper is by adding quotation marks. The quotation marks are proof that the words, which have been written do not belong to the work and are rather referenced from somewhere else. So, while writing a research paper it is always beneficial to place the quotation marks on the side of the words which you have taken from someone else's work and a source with it.

Paraphrasing is one of the most effective and smartest ways f avoiding plagiarism in your research paper. Paraphrasing means to rewrite what already has been written but in your own words. While paraphrasing a piece of writing it should be considered that the original meaning of the work does not get lost as if it will then the purpose for paraphrasing will be lost. But sometimes paraphrasing can also be alarming if not done in the right way. Paraphrasing a text demands you to pay much attention to your writing skills and use those words which are not or also used in the original work, as this will reduce the chances of plagiarism. But paraphrasing does not mean you continue your work without adding a citation. Even after paraphrasing someone’s work you need to add a source as it was not your original idea. All you were doing the whole time was playing with the words and making them look original.

The best way of avoiding plagiarism is using your original idea. If you are using your original thoughts then there is a rare chance of your research paper getting any sort of plagiarism. This is a way that is more preferred while writing a research paper. Always for thinking about what you have to say and express in your own research paper and write it down with your collection and selection of the words. But sometimes there are also chances of plagiarism in this situation. For example, if you are given an assignment on a similar topic three times and you use the same words and ideas, again and again, it will then become self-plagiarized. In this way, you would be copying your own ideas and thoughts which also comes under the heading of plagiarism.

The last way for avoiding plagiarism in your research paper is using a plagiarism checker. There are different websites and applications, which scan the whole text and search for plagiarism if any. They then highlight those line or words which are plagiarized and all you can do is paraphrase those parts and make your plagiarism percentage low. These sources are available both free and paid. Though paid versions are expected to be trusted more.

By following these ways, you will be able to avoid or reduce your plagiarism percentage very low.
