Introduction of Lagoons

Lagoons can be described as a Shallow body of water that is separated from the ocean by coral reefs, barrier islands, and sand bars. In another definition, it is an inlet of the Pacific Ocean that is separated by the coral reef. Lagoons are a common feature of an ocean that can be identified in any region around the world. Most often, lagoons are found in the coastlines, tropical areas, and temperate areas. In the present work, the ecosystem of Blue Lagoon located in Iceland is under consideration.

It is one of the most famous Lagoon around the world that is developed by the local geothermal power plant and lava bed. There are many different living species in this ecosystem. The food web is biotic to biotic, abiotic to biotic, and biotic to abiotic. The primary food producers in lagoons are green algae, red algae, seagrass, and brown algae. The secondary food consumers are carnivorous fish, herbivorous fish, and dusky farmer fish. In this paper, there is comprehensive information on the lagoon ecosystem that is present around the region of Muscat. In the first part, there is information about the place where it is located, and then the next section is discussing the main benefits of this ecosystem.

Description of Lagoons

The Lagoon is present in Muscat, and it is located in the best place. It is surrounded by mountains that are covered with sand. The name of this Lagoon is Khawr Al maghasayl. This is one of the beautiful Lagoon that is located at that place. There are also a lot of birds are present because of their lovely ecosystem. This Lagoon is extremely important for biodiversity. Another most important fact about this Lagoon is related to its number of species. This Lagoon is maintaining a number of different species of the birds. All of these birds are considered migratory and indigenous birds. All of these birds are playing a major role in maintaining the whole ecosystem in a perfect way. The next thing is that there many birds that came from different areas of the world. The main reason is that this Lagoon is providing the best ecosystem environment for these birds. There are some birds that are migrated from Africa, and some of them also from Europe. There are also some other birds that are also migrated from India to that place. There are some birds that are also permanent residents of that Lagoon (Aston, 2015).

Location of Lagoons

This Lagoon is present at the eastern end of the Jabal AL Qamar. It is one of the most beautiful places. It is located in the Governorate of Dhofar. This area is completely covered with different Lagoons.

Area of Lagoons

It can be noted that the area of this Lagoon is smaller as compared with the other one that is located nearby. The whole area of this Lagoon is only about 3 km. on the other hand, its width is about only 150 meters.

Geography of Lagoons

The layout of that place is extremely attractive. The main reason is that this area is completely surrounded by beautiful mountains. Moreover, the height of these mountains is not too big. Another thing is that the mountains are not too much steeper and the coastal area is clean and best for the migrated birds (Losos, 2011).

Topography of Lagoons

This land is like a place in heaven. It is extremely beautiful because it contains coastal areas and also mountains. It can be seen easily, and there is a lot of greenery present that contains an extremely healthy atmosphere for the birds and other species that are living at that place. There is also some small waterfalls located at the end of this place. These waterfalls are involved in increasing the beauty and attractiveness of that place (S.A. Ghazanfar, 2013).

Landmarks of Lagoons

There is not such any kind of landmark is located at that place. This is the place that is only covered with some mountains and other things.

Habitants of Lagoons

There are also not such habitats are present. But it can be noted that only the migrated birds are the only habitats that are present and lived there for a long period of time. Also, the next thing is that there is not a single human being living at this Lagoon.

Benefits of ecological studies of Lagoons

The benefits of studying the Lagoon ecosystem include the study and analysis of secondary production. For example, the diving ducks winter at Lagoon, Lagoon Nakaumi, and other living bodies in the water. In the lagoon ecosystem, the diving ducks utilize most of the living animals in the Lagoon ecosystem. The Lagoon ecosystem consists of a variety of fishes that are living together in the lagoon. Studying the ecosystem enable to identify a new generation of fishes such as freshwater type fish and seawater type fish (Searle, 2019).

The most common type of fish in the blue lagoon of Iceland are diadromous fish and euryhaline. Therefore the number of fishes is higher in Lagoon. There are variety and abundance of fishes and birds, and the Ecosystem is composed of many species of all the animals in a Lagoon. Studying the ecosystem provide more information about secondary producers, diverse Birds, and types of sea animals. Hydrodynamics is a special factor affecting the ecosystem of Lagoon, and it occurs due to salinity stratification, low water exchange, and choked lagoons (Spalding, 2010).

The ecological studies reveal the occurrence of different species in the seawater, exposure of animals to suspected as well as a known cause. In ecological studies, the unit defines observation of community and popular population. This study measure the series of population and relation of examination is conducted. The ecological studies analyze organic materials at the bottom of the lagoon. Sometimes is Lagoon becomes hypoxic due to a decrease in supplied Oxygen and an increase in the consumption of oxygen at the bottom of Lagoon. The ecological studies of lagoons considered toxic chemicals that can induce an impact on the life of animals. The water of Lagoon contaminated by toxic materials accumulate on the area and changes the seawater or freshwater into polluted water. The ecological studies identify factors that induce an impact on the life of animals and freshwater types in Lagoon. To study also identify the concentration of dioxins and tributyltin in the sediments of Lagoon. The higher concentration of visa toxic materials results in bioaccumulation and reduced lifespan of animals and fishes near the Lagoon (H.R. Rollinson, 2014).

Ecosystem services of Lagoons

It can be noted that human beings are part of the ecosystem and taking advantage of it in many ways and such benefits are considered as the services from the ecosystem.

The air or oxygen that we are using is also given by the ecosystem. Through taking the fresh air, we can easily survive. The next service is given by the ecosystem is related to the water. The main reason is that for carrying out life in a perfect way, the water is playing a major role. All living organisms are taking the benefits of this water. Moreover, another service is related to plants. The plants are also present in a great amount in our ecosystem. These plants are involved in lowering the rate of pollution that is present in your atmosphere. We are also getting fresh oxygen from these plants in a perfect way. The next thing is that due to these plants, many small microbes are able to survive in this ecosystem (Elizabeth C. Robertson, 2006).

Conclusion of Lagoons

Summing up all the discussion from above, it is concluded that ecological studies are playing a major role in the development of the ecosystem. In this paper, there is complete information about the Khawr Al maghasayl Lagoon in detail with comprehensive information about this place. In another definition, it is an inlet of the Pacific Ocean that is separated by the coral reef. Lagoons are a common feature of an ocean that can be identified in any region around the world.
