Domestic
violence is a kind of relationship in which one partner starts controlling the
other partner by being dominant or overpowering. The abuser can use a different
kinds of abuses for the assertion of this power. It involves different kinds of
abuses like sexual, physical or psychological. Along with this, different
attempts are also being made for the manipulation of the victim by the use of
their children. Different studies have been made and the result came out that
the number of individuals who are at the risk for domestic violence. Among all
the features, the most common one is the imbalance of power and control both.
In
this essay, two different cases are about to be discussed that are related to
two different women. Trifles and Poofl both involve the subject of marital
abuse that ultimately results in the death of their husbands. This play has
been made by Susan Glaspell’s, in the opening of this play a crime scene has
been encountered in the little house of Mrs. Wright who herself has been accused
of murdering her husband. There are different characters in the scene among
which sheriff is also an important one and they are trying to find out a reason
behind the murder that how a wife can kill his husband. People are busy in
talking about the incident that how horrible that incident was and how one can
do this on her own. After different inferences, it was concluded that john was
a very aggressive person who used to fight a lot.
In
the scene, different characters found out that a little bird was dead in the
birdcage box and it came out that John tried to kill that bird being hyper and
aggressive. As a result, Mrs. Wright must have had tried to defend herself and
ultimately she killed john in her defense.
Domestic
abuse is not a small thing but it is defined as a pattern of the abusive
behavior in any kind of relationship. Out of every four women, one is becoming
the victim of this domestic abuse and it needs to be stopped. This domestic
violence is 80% created by the husbands as they just want to be dominant and
suppress their wives. Unfortunately, it is a sad fact that stories like Trifles
are not rare but they are seen almost everywhere in every relationship. Mrs.
Right is shown one true and simple kind of a women in the whole play who never
speaks I front of her husband and she obeys whatever her husband asks her to
do. She became much sad and horrified after the whole incident and by the
gathering of different people at her house as she is not clever at all. But
through the evidences it has been shown that she just tried to defend herself.
In
the other play poof, traditional role is being played by a women who has been
taught throughout the life that no matter what she needs to respect her
husband. She led a simple life without causing any kind of a harm to any
person. Her husband used to torture her a lot but she was asked to stay quiet
the whole time. Obviously there is certain limit of every person and same was
the case with her so she tried to defend herself and as a result she killed her
husband. Confliction became the reason of a death.
This
is a story of two different characters who became the victim of their husband’s
domestic abuse. They became so tensed and horrified that they couldn’t see any
other hope and they were just tired of this daily drama and torture so they
killed their husband to have a better life. In comparison, when different kinds
of information were being collected from both the characters it came out that
they were facing a really tough time. They were not getting all the rights that
every woman deserves to get from their husbands. It has also been found out
that they were being tortured physically as well as mentally.
