Windows is the series of computer OS
(operating system), operating systems that Microsoft has developed for computer
(PC) or personal desktop or devices. On the other hand, Linux was created in 1991
based on UNIX and it is the open source operating system. Since it is the open source
operating system, the existing code can be modified by users in Linux to create
distributions from it (Robbins, 2004). This technical report aims to conduct
the in-depth comparison between windows and Linux’s technical implementation
using the case of Ubuntu and Windows 10.
The comparative
analysis of Windows 10 and Ubuntu
In the current market, both Windows 10 and Ubuntu
are the consumer’s popular choices. The comparative
analysis of Windows 10 and Ubuntu is discussed as:
Canonical belong to the Linux family
and it developed the Ubuntu while the founding developer of windows 10 is Microsoft
(Robbins, 2004).
Window 10 is a licensed as well
as paid operating system while Ubuntu is the open source operating system (Robbins,
2004).
In the Windows 10 comparison, Ubuntu
is more reliable operating system.
It is much difficult to handle
Ubuntu because it requires to learn so many commanding while learning and
handling part in Windows 10 is very easy (Robbins, 2004).
Ubuntu operating system is specifically
for purpose of programming while Windows 10 is usable for other purposes as
well (Blair, 1998).
The Microsoft office works
excellent in Windows 10 while it does not work in Ubuntu properly (Robbins,
2004).
Windows 10 efficiently support photoshoot
and adobe while it does not properly work in Ubuntu.
The Kernel type of Ubuntu is Monolithic
while Kernel type of Windows 10 is hybrid.
In comparison to the Windows
10, Ubuntu is considered much secure.
Userland of Ubuntu is GNU while
userland of Windows 10 is Window Nt, Net (Blair, 1998).
Browsing is much faster in
Ubuntu as compare to Windows 10 (Robbins, 2004).
In Ubuntu, updates are very
easy to install while the users have to install Java every time for the update
in Windows 10 (Tackett, 1999).
Due to the various available
features, developers and testers first choice is Ubuntu and they hardly prefer
Windows 10 over Ubuntu (Shah, 2001).
The data privacy in Ubuntu is high
because no co-corporation owns it unlike Windows 10 (Sobell, 2013).
Windows 10 has Cortana while there
is no visual assistance to Ubuntu (Welsh, 1999).
The centralized application
installation feature is present in Ubuntu but Windows 10 lack this feature
(Ward, 2000).
Ubuntu can run by using pen
drive without going through an installation process and Windows 10 lack this feature
and booting is also faster in Ubuntu system as compare to Windows 10 (Gralla,
2007).
Windows 10, for point of view
is gaming, is a best choice for gamers and they don’t prefer Linux (Van, 2009).
In Ubuntu viruses cannot
survive while virus attack is very common in Windows 10 (Turnbull, 2014).
The default user interface in Ubuntu
is Ubuntu Unity and GNOME while the default user interface of Windows 10 is
windows shell (Kurniawan, 2016).
In Ubuntu, there is no need for
Firewall or any kind of antiviruses while the antivirus software or firewall is
always needed in Windows 10 (Hill, 2006).
Conclusion on Technical Implementation Between Windows and
Linux
In a nutshell, both Windows 10 operating
system and Ubuntu have unique pros and cons. It can be said that, both Windows
10 and Ubuntu have overall well-built and trying their best to meet the
customers need. Ubuntu is considered more reliable and secure than windows 10
because in Ubuntu viruses cannot survive while virus attack is very common in
Windows 10. Developers and testers first choice is Ubuntu and they hardly
prefer Windows 10 over Ubuntu. Data privacy in Ubuntu is high because no
co-corporation owns it unlike Windows 10. Centralized application installation
feature is present in Ubuntu but Windows 10 lack this feature. Ubuntu is not
for the entertainment because it does not support gaming or movies etc. while
these entertainments are facilities are common in Windows 10. For programmer,
Unix environment can be considered best while for entertainer, Windows can be
considered best.
