The environment
management system (EMS) consists of procedures which allow the corporation to
align their operations, strategies and policies with the environment protection
principles. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has
established ISO 14001 which allow corporations to maintain EMS standard. The
aim of the environmental management system is to maintain the environmental
protection standards and reduce the impact of the organizations on the
environment. Today many organizations are implementing EMS models to improve
the efficiency and overall performance of the organization. Through EMS the
organizations have become more socially responsible and become able to provide
maximum benefit to the society.
However, there are
some corporations who believe that the EMS would increase the cost of their
organization and will be too burdensome. It is evident that implementing EMS
requires a significant amount of investment. In addition, the organization will
have to give significant time & resources in order to make EMS effective. The organizations know that they will also
have to train their employees regarding the EMS so that the employees can meet
the requirements efficiently. It means that the training cost of the
organization also increases when EMS is going to be implemented. When
organizations implement EMS models, some employees show resistance because they
are not aware of the benefit of EMS model (Belcham, 2014).
Although EMS
brings a lot of challenges for the organizations, the overall benefit of the
EMS is way larger than the cost of the EMS. By keeping the overall benefits in
mind, it is recommended that the organizations should implement EMS. Through the
implementation of EMS not only the organizations can utilize the resources more
efficiently but also can provide maximum benefit to the society. When the
customer of the organizations realize that the organization is fulfilling its
corporate social responsibility than the reputation of the organization will
increase.
Organizations who
implement EMS have the opportunity to use it in their marketing and
advertisement campaigns. The organization can tell its customers about its
sustainable approach and how there are making improving the lives of the
people. The organizations who implement EMS can gain financial assistance more
easily because financial institutions provide financial funding to those
organizations who are using their resources more efficiently and have reduced
their environmental impact. The organization through EMS can increase its sales
through customer loyalty. Today many customers purchase from such corporations
who are more socially responsible and pay special attention to environment
protection (Belcham, 2014).
By analyzing the
overall benefit of the EMS, it can be said that the organization should
consider implementing EMS rather considering it a burden. The initially the
organization will experience cost but with the passage of time the cost of EMS
will be covered, and the benefit which the organization will receive from EMS
will be far more than its cost. In current marketing conditions, it is highly
significant to focus on environment protection because the world is facing the
issue of global warming. The customers or consumers are aware of this issue and
want organizations to fulfil the obligation of environment protection.
