The
book kitchens are written by John Prizeman on designs and equipment of storage
in kitchens. The main idea behind this book is to share information about
different kinds of kitchen and kitchen essentials. For instance, it includes
the gourmet's kitchen, country kitchens, family kitchens, and open-plan
kitchens. Moreover, this book also explains information regarding colours and
designs of kitchens. Regarding kitchen writer also wrote information about cost
estimation and expansion ideas. The writer presented arguments in favour of
cost estimation prior to completely designing a kitchen or buying its equipment (Prizeman,
1970).
Furthermore,
the writer added examples in the book to elaborate on different concepts. For
instance, while discussing doubling back regarding time and motion the writer
added an example of food storage in refrigerator and washing salads at sinks. Although,
John Prizeman also presented examples of required tools and equipment such as cooking
rings, the sink and preparation centre for cooking a meat pie.
The
writer also added quotations in the books to explain various arguments. For
instance, a quotation used by John Prizeman at the beginning of the book is “A
kitchen should be planned to serve the people who use it”.
This
quotation is projecting his emphasis on the appropriate selection of designs
and sizes of equipment as well as spaces in the kitchen. According to John
Prizeman, the walking distance between all the main work areas of a home
kitchen should not exceed the maximum limit of 20ft otherwise it will become
tiring for the users. Considering this information, I think the quote is highly
relevant and it meets my own opinion about spaces and areas covered by walking.
The book “kitchen” by John Prizeman also relate to other books written by other
writers as most of them use the same method and themes to explain kitchen designs
requirement.
