ADRA South Pacific Information
I. Overview of Encyclopedia ADRA South Pacific
Information
It is important to mention here
that before 2004, ADRA had no presence in the South Pacific Region. Then the
process was initiated in Nov (2004) when the vote was given by the SPD
Executive Committee in favor of the proposal, which asserted that there should
be “ADRA in the South Pacific Division (SPD)”. This new regional approach came
up with a new governance model so that leadership matters are handled
accordingly. It was recommended that the new governance model should include
the ADRA SPD Network and the ADRA SPD Coordinating Committee. In the end, the
approval was given to Pacific Development Program, and it has been serving the
region ever since it started its work.
Once SPD started working in the
region, but coordination was handled from the center, then it was felt that SPD
requires a Regional Office in SPD. So, the approval for ADRA SPD Regional
Office was taken in Nov (2005) from the ADRA SPD Coordinating Committee. A
regional office team was also selected to handle the matters in the region, and
new positions included an Executive Director, Field Coordinator, as well as,
Coordinator of the Pacific Development Program. The launching of the Pacific
Development Program was done in 2005, and this program is contributing to the
region in so many ways to build their capacity and resources.
II. Organization & History
of Encyclopedia ADRA
South Pacific Information
ADRA was doing well in the SPD,
serving different parts of the region. It was again felt that ARDA need one
more regional office in the SPD so that work can be managed easily, because ADRA’s
activities were growing in the region, and it was getting difficult for other
regions to handle the pressure of work from the whole SPD. So, higher
management made a crucial decision that there should be one more regional
office in the SPD, as it will help to segregate workload. It was important to
take this decision because things were getting difficult to manage. So, a major
decision was made by ADRA SPD Coordinating Committee in 20XX that a new
regional office will be launched in SPD.
The
mission statement of ADRA South Pacific, same as all the ADRA offices in different
countries across the world is: "ADRA works with people in poverty and
distress to create just and positive change through empowering partnerships and
responsible actions.”

achieve its mission, ADRA South Pacific has been partnering with communities,
organizations, as well as governments with a purpose to develop:

IV. Role and Place in the
country/region
It is a fact that ADRA is doing
its best to “make a difference in the world” by doing so many positive relief
and rehabilitation efforts along with development projects so that needy poor
people in the region can raise the living standard, and get access to basic
human needs. ADRA is making a viable impact through its work across 130
countries including the SPD region. ADRA works in the region for a variety of
projects. For instance, ADRA regional chapter makes a lot of effort to improve
the lives of poor children. They work for disaster response in areas, where any
kind of natural calamity makes a devastating impact. ADRA provides relief in
the affected areas in the best possible manner. ADRA also works on several
projects to help developing countries in their economic growth so that the
economy can get better.
In addition to this, ADRA South
Pacific also has mentioned its specific purpose which is to serve people
without any type of discrimination in the context of their ethnic, political,
or else religious relation. Furthermore, ADRA South Pacific has been
prioritizing to provide to the people with disabilities, children, as well as
senior citizens in the region.
In developing regions, social
justice is a big issue, so ADRA makes every possible effort to maintain social
justice, and people can get a justice who is deprived of it due to their social
status. Gender equality is another prevalent issue in the region, so ADRA
involves in different development programs to spread awareness about gender
equality. Hunger & Nutrition are some of the huge issues faced in this
region, and ADRA helps people to deal with the issue. They also work with
different projects to improve the situation of water and sanitation in the
region, because the situation is extremely worst in this regard. ADRA also
assist farmers and support them in their agriculture matters so that they can
improve their farming to get better results. ADRA also involved in different
community health development programs so that people can get basic access to
health and nutrition, which is needed especially for the proper growth and
development of children (ADRA, 2019).
One of the examples can be seen
from the conference which held in Indonesia, in April 2019, that gave
representatives from above than 30 different countries a big opportunity to
both learn and also take part into a stronger corporation between the
Seventh-day Adventist Church and ADRA, specifically in learning how young
generation could be better involved in community service as well as disaster
readiness. At that time, Indonesia has experienced several momentous natural
disasters, from earthquakes to tsunamis as well as flooding. ADRA, the
Adventist Church along with the Indonesian Government’s National Board designed
for Disaster Management were working together with a purpose to promote
community-based disaster readiness such as training the Pathfinders and church
volunteers to back up the reduction activities of disaster risk along with the
proper emergency response (Peach, 2019).
