Apple case study

Introduction of Apple Technology company in China

In most of the organization, the forced labour and consumer awareness sustainability are driving the organization to take the next step that is beyond the compliance. In the present report, I have been appointed as SVP of operations in Apple Inc. and my first task was to find the ethics that are suitable for the company and satisfy the need of supply chain for the labour of Apple Inc. in China (Kapadia, 2019). The company have already made significant progress and development in the area of ethics in Apple Inc. for the Chinese workers. However, the analytics show that workers and employees are still not satisfied with the services and strategies. The company is searching for the extensive criticism and relationship of the company other manufacturers are becoming challenging and it needs further initiatives to overcome the issues. As the Chinese manufacturers are working on very low wages and Apple Inc. is facing ethical dilemmas (Clarke & Boersma, 2019).

On the basis of the present analysis, I will recommend if the company should stay in China. If the working and doing business in China is generating benefits or losses to Apple Inc.. The other considerations are ethical challenges and relocation criteria for Apple Inc. in China.  At the end of the report, I conclude the final decision on the basis of knowledge and theories of Operations Management and Strategy. The analysis also considers Supply Chain Management, Location Strategy, and Sustainability (Kapadia, 2019)

Case of Apple Technology company in China

It is observed that Apple Inc. failed in satisfying the workers in Chinese factories and in maintaining the false and positive image in public. Apple Inc. promised the Chinese workers to protect their working rights and ethical considerations but continuously it failed in practising legal and ethical standards and it is not possible for the workers to practice and work in the crowded dormitories, unpaid working conditions, juvenile labour and extra working hours (Itunesu-assets. itunes. apple. com, 2019). The report was first to come by the BBC research on the social media and journalistic investigation that established the rules for the working conditions in China and how the companies are considering and obeying the rules. The important consideration is to apply certain universal and global standards of ethics and to improve human resource management in China (Psmag. com, 2017).

In the reports, it is mentioned that Chinese labour is suffering in the hands of Apple Inc. The workers are not provided with the ethical requirements and they are subjected to work for 12 hours daily in the routine shifts. The reports included the evidence of Chinese workers of Apple Inc. sleeping in miserable situation after the 12 hours shift. Despite acknowledging the working efficiency of employees that management refuted their claims of basic human rights. It is also observed that Apple Inc. stated that its management has resolved the issues and formulated the required policies that can be implemented to resolve the issue (Choudhury, 2019)

Ethical consideration of the case of Apple Technology company in China

On the subject of ethical misleading conditions for Chinese labour of Apple Inc., I conducted a survey report about the ethical requirement and claims of Chinese labour. I concluded that there are three possible frameworks that are required to be analyzed including ethical absolutism, ethical relativism, and moral universalism. The moral relativism asserts that Apple Inc. had not introduced sufficient working considerations in china and the working conditions are not satisfactory for the workers. In the simple conclusive remarks, I concluded that the workers are not provided with their basic working rights, in case of extra working hours they are not provided with expected rewards, and Apple Inc. have introduced limited working satisfaction for the Chinese labour (Choudhury, 2019)

In ethics, it is mentioned that the workers should not work for 3 more hours than their working conditions. The ethical absolutism considered the foreign culture and the community that is affected the working conditions and community of China. The regulations are developed but not implemented. The fair labour standard Act defines that the workers having 8 hours more per day are entitled to get overtime, but Apple Inc. has not introduced such strategies for Chinese labour (Kapadia, 2019)

The ethical universalism has made arguments for the fundamental principles that are changed across the nation and cultural boundaries. The fact is that Apple Inc. is subjected to manage extra and forced working hours and the act of soliciting tin from children is developed but again not implemented in China. On the basis of these three ethical considerations, Apple Inc. management was ethically wrong, and they were not implementing the required ethical considerations (Kapadia, 2019).

The solution to ethical issues of Apple Technology company in China

Jeff handed me an article entitled "What are the most important supply chain ethics? 3 experts weigh in” by Shefali Kapadia. The purpose was to check all the ethical consideration in the supply chain that can be implemented in Apple Inc. and it can make the ultimate difference in outcomes. I checked that article mentioned the number of considerations that can be applied in Apple Inc. to resolve the issues. In the article, the author mentioned about consumer awareness sustainability and forced labour that can impact supply chain both positively and negatively (Choudhury, 2019).

Sometimes, like Apple Inc., companies ignore the call of action and it becomes an ethical issue that damage the repute of the company and rights of workers. The leaders of the supply chain must think about their positive and useful role in the company and how they can take part in remove the issues. The first consideration is to not waste the talent of workers. It means that the management must do care of skilled and talented workers (Lo & Twiss, 2015).

The procurement leaders must find that 68% of the workers in China are embedded in the supplier process and it the ethical actions are not taken it can induce a negative impact on their working skills. In her article, she mentioned that companies must take care of the influence of supply chains on the global means and it can induce an impact on the development of company and communities around the world. The Chinese workers in Apple Inc. are full of potential and Apple Inc. management must consider their intellectual capital that can create a positive impact on the customers and workers of China (Schmidpeter, Lu, Stehr, & Huang, 2015).

In China, Apple Inc. is facing deep-seated issues and problems that require proper management to be resolved. The research shows that Apple Inc. in China is facing issues of human rights, ethical problems and environmental issues that are required be addressed on first hand. The low pay scale, environmental hazards, and poor working conditions are causing issues for Chinese workers. The workers are subjected to attempt suicide due to intensive working conditions and it causes shock to the factories of Apple Inc (Itunesu-assets. itunes. apple. com, 2019; Choudhury, 2019).

The company failed in finding a reasonable and permanent solution to reduce the recurrent environment and labour issues.  In order to resolve the issues, Apple Inc. has taken some initiatives, but the profit of the company slipped in the recent years therefore it was not possible to implement all the decisions. The sustainable and competitive advantage of the company has changed the working conditions and results in domination, marketing, and superior designing of the process.

The advanced consumer electronics in the supply chain is working effectively in Chinese manufacturing and supply chain management sectors. Apple worked on resolving poor working conditions and improved the local working conditions by having an electronic security system, integrity, transparency, and accountability in the working considerations of the Chinese manufacturing sector (Schmidpeter, Lu, Stehr, & Huang, 2015).

The possible actions that are required to be considered in Apple Inc. management for the employees of China are listed below,

1.      Consider the various issues mentioned in the report.

2.      State new policies and standards that can resolve the issues and provide rights of the workers in the workplace.

3.      Consider the several working statements and highlight the common issue and then find the best alternative that can satisfy the Chinese labour.

4.      Improve the working conditions and don't use the ole outdated tricks on the Chinese labour,

5.      The company is keen to generate profits, but it is important to find ways of working efficiently and resolving the issues wisely. The expense of workers and stakeholder must be addressed by the company.

Conclusion of Apple Technology company in China

The present report concluded that Apple Inc. failed in the development and implementation of ethical, legal and professional capacities for the Chinese workers. The report analyzed different ethical steps that are required for the development of companies and how Apple can implement them in the company. On the basis of the present analysis, it is concluded that instead of shutting down the business in China, Apple Inc. must revise and rethink all the ethical issues and resolve them to keep the skilled workers satisfied with the services. Besides all the factors, Apple Inc. has to maintain an image in public.
