Introduction of Commonwealth Games
The report is based on the case study on the
commonwealth games stadium where the company Arup is going to build around
47000. The project is a big project from July 1, 2012, to the start of the 2024
season. The case study is also telling that the project management for this
project must be strong because they are bound to deliver this project or complete
the whole construction in the given time. If the company will fail to complete
the project, the report is focusing on managing the work plan of the company.
Furthermore, the report focuses on the identification as well as discuss the
methods of the project planning as well as the project controls are also discussed
in the report which can be used in the report. For the stadium project, the
network schedule is constructed which can make a team of the development able
to complete the project timely. The related diagrams such as the network
diagram, Gantt chart, etc. are also included in the report which is showing the
limitations as well as maximum to for every task. Furthermore, every task, as
well as procedure, needs some kind of timescale for management, so the Gantt
chart resolves this issue. Although, the work breakdown structure is also given
which tells how the project manager will work as well as how the departments
are distributed and what kind of tasks they are performing. For making WBS in
Microsoft excel is used. The project management methodologies can be more
effective in the project. In the last of the report, a brief summary of the
whole report and some recommendations are also given in the last of the report
in the conclusion as well as recommendations.
Project Planning & Project Controls
Project
Planning of Commonwealth Games
The
project methods are discussed in this report which is telling that what are the
significant things that must be used apply in the project because the methods
for project planning which are selected for completing the project are very
effective. The selected methods can be general for the readers but these
approaches provide more strength to project manager which guides how they can
manage better as well as how they can remove ambiguities from the planning. The
selected methods for project management. The methods of project planning are as
follows for such a project (Platje & Wadman, 1994).
Goal
of Commonwealth Games
The
goal of the company (Arup) is to make around 47000 seats as well as the project is a big project from July 1,
2012, to the start of the 2024 season. The timeline of this project will be
aligned as well as the company also trying to estimate the expected budget
making the seats, demolishing
Goal
Setting of Commonwealth Games
As
Arup identifies the significant things about some aspects of making seats,
building and maintaining the building stadium as well as building the roof of
the stadium. The project managers have set goals that they have to build and
make the seats around 47000 seats in the stadium as well as the goal is also
divided into the sub-goals of this project by generating the network schedule
and Gantt chart for each task. The main goals of the company are to construct
the stadium in the year of 2021 as well as complete this construction at the
start of 2024 and they must have to focus on the construction project completed
on time to avoid the penalty per day in case of missing of the deadline. The
Sub goals are also defined such as they must have to work in the budget as well
as reducing costs on the construction that will increase the revenue of the
project management team (Platje & Wadman, 1994).
SMART
of Commonwealth Games
In
the SMART step, the project management team of the company focuses on its goal
and the methodology of the construction will be specific. Project Manager along
with team brainstorms on the goal as well as sub-goals for calculating each
task as well as they also measure that each task and work actions can take
estimated time. For instance, the project management team of the company did
also measure the retractable roof of the stadium can take 70 days. The
demolishing of the structure of the building as well as creating the
construction stage can take at least 30 days as well as making the construction
site will also take 70 days. The driving of 60 pillars in the construction site
to support stadium building will also take 120 days. For the concrete bowl,
they will need 120 more days because it is the basic thing for the construction
of the building of the stadium. After construction of the structure of stadium the
luxury boxes (90 days), installation of the seats in stadium will take 140
days, jumbotrons 30 days, 120 days for the installation of stadium
infrastructure including bathrooms, doors, restaurants, lockers, and many more
small things. So, all of these things, as well as many other remaining things,
are also planned in the estimated maximum days. For all of the construction as
well as installation of the related things (Faniran, 2005).
Project Controls of Commonwealth Games
The
project controls are included for the project definition, goal setting,
execution, as well as the completion of the project. The project control
concerns the demolition of the stadium structure, site construction, project
construction, construction and installation of the retractable roof of the
stadium as well as installation of seats in the stadium. The project control
basically controls all of the related labors and employees working on the
project including other stakeholders as well as controls all of the related
activities and the performances of the employees to complete the stadium
construction within the given time by the start of 2024. First of all, the
managers of the project team identify what the actual goal which is constructing
the building of the stadium, as well as some strategies, are also defined to
construct stadium timely. They focus purely on the outcomes of the project as
well as they also construct strategies to reduce the costs on the construction
to save resources and also make further strategies to use the available
resources within time (Nurre & Weir, 2017).
The
project managers did also develop the specific time schedule completing the
project as well as some maintenance during the construction of completed sites
also scheduled. The estimation of the cost is also a big part of the project.
The company is currently working on the construction project, so they have to estimate
the costs of engineering. The strategy for controlling the costs as well as for
the assessment of the value of the project is also covered. Some risks which
can be occurred in case of loss of the resources as well as demolishing the
building materials in case of any natural disaster are also estimated because
if any kind of mishap occurs during the construction or during the installation
of the significant items in the stadium, then how much time they will require
to overcome (Ballard, 2008). The related diagrams such as the network diagram, Gantt chart, etc. are
also included in the report which is showing the limitations as well as maximum
to for every task. Furthermore, they also make the strategies for
avoiding expected problems and issues which can damage the construction or
stadium in the future. Assessment of the risks will also be performed because
the engineers will make the design layout of this project according to such
kind of risks (Ballard, 2008).
To manage all
the construction project, the work breakdown structure is also developed for
making the timeline to perform and complete the project. The project managers
also allocate the tasks to every project activity. The project documentation is
the significant part of the project which tells that what is the main goals is
as well as the documentation of the project will also provide the significant
information about the activities, strategies as well as the cost and labors. In
the last activity of project control, the manager as well as the supervisors
also assess the quality of the work as well as they must have to oversight on
the resources of the project as well the performance of every employee during
the construction of the stadium. The managers of the project team identify what
the actual goal which is constructing the building of the stadium, as well as
some strategies, are also defined to construct stadium timely. The company is
currently working on the construction project, so they have to estimate the
costs of engineering. The related
diagrams such as the network diagram, Gantt chart, etc. are also included in
the report which is showing the limitations as well as maximum to for every
task. The oversight process in the project will help the mangers to
evaluate the performance of every employee in as well as it will also provide
help to reduce the risks in the project. They must have to take feedback from
every employee about the work to increase the satisfaction of every employee (Konchar & Sanvido, 1998).

Network Schedule of
Commonwealth Games
The network schedule tells about the
task dependency as well as connectivity of every task activity to other
activity. Project manager of the construction project of stadium is divided
into four major things as well as it also subdivided into further activities. All
the activities of the project will merge together for the completion of the
project. Consider the steps as stages for the redevelopment of Birmingham
stadium.

Conclusion of Commonwealth Games
It is concluded
that the report is all about the construction project of the commonwealth games
stadium. The summary of this project is also telling that the Arup Company is
going to make the seats for the stadium around 47000. The project is considered
very big project because the company will also have to demolish and construct
the building structure of the stadium as well as the retractable roof will also
be installed. The project will start from
July 1, 2012 and the project managers will complete this project at the start
of the 2024 season. In case of the late deliverable or if the company fails to
complete the project on time then a large amount of the penalty will be the
imposed on the company around 100,000 pounds. Furthermore, the report focuses
on the identification as well as discuss the methods of the project planning as
well as the project controls are also discussed in the report which can be used
in the report. The related diagrams such as the network diagram, Gantt chart,
etc. are also included in the report which is showing the limitations as well
as maximum to for every task. The selected methods for project
management. The methods of project planning are as follows for such a project.
Recommendations of Commonwealth Games
It is
recommended that the the project planning as well as the project controlling
are telling how the project plan will be made. In the project control, times
lines as well as the gantt chart is also made. Assessment of the risks will
also be performed because the engineers will make the design layout of this
project according to such kind of risks. The project documentation is the
significant part of the project which tells that what is the main goals is as well
as the documentation of the project will also provide the significant
information about the activities.
