Assignment on Literary analysis of The Beach

In this paper, there is a complete literary analysis of the novel named The Beach. This novel is written by Alex Garland. He has presented the novel in quite beautiful words through which the reader can enjoy it. The theme of the novel is related to the thriller. It is a story of the boy name Richard that wanted to go to Thailand for the search of the beautiful and eye-catching beach. In the meanwhile, he met with different friends and they started to do adventure. At that stage, they have found some drug dealers. From that stage, the fun starts. The author has demonstrated every thing in that novel in a perfect way for the reader. He has also given a quite important lesson for the readers that will give proper information about what you do not have to do when you are at the foreign beach. In that novel, Richard was quite lucky to escape from the beach safely. But in real life, it is not easy for the person to escape from such a place. “In "The Beach" Garland uses Richard to demonstrate the horrible consequences of choosing to keep a secret rather than thinking about acting humanly”

“The first stage shows the influence and strength society has on the characters.”The first argument is related to the stage 1, that is showing the influence and strength is given by the society to these characters. From this argument, it can be seen that it is not easy for the person to escape from such a scenario. This is just due to the strength given by the society has put a great impact on the character. From the information in the novel, it can be noted that Richard came from the United Kingdom. This is the reason why he was able to survive from such a situation at the beach. Or a normal person it was not an easy task to escape from such deadly beach. All of these friends on the beach wanted to survive and it is not an easy task. This was just due to the impact of the society that will allow him to survive through this condition in a perfect way. As it is said at one point in the novel that “In any case, it wasn't like there was anything we could do to make things easier. We'd put ourselves into the situation. All we could do was deal with it.” (p.40)“The isolation and lack of resources of the islands cause the innate evil inside of them to be revealed, which attempts to break their bond with civilization”

The next argument is related to the isolation and lack of resources on the island. Due to this condition, the innate evil that was present in these friends was revealed and then they started to break their bond with civilization. This was one of the most critical situations. This situation was taken from the novel when Richard and his friend moved towards the island with the drug dealers. At that stage, they found that there are quite low resources and we have to survive at that place. Then these friends started to fight against others for the sake of resources. It was extremely difficult for Richard to kill someone. At that critical situation Richard has to kill otherwise they may kill him for the sake of resources. On the other hand, the drug dealers were also wanted to kill all people on the island because they thought that due to these people we are in huge problem. This was the main reason they decided to finish them. This kind of situation was being discussed among them, and it can be seen in the following quote, which stated that “I had realized that escape was not an option and we were all about to get killed, and accepted the realization without bitterness.” (p.226)

 “The third and final stage is the end of all law and order as a result of complete dominance the darkness has over the characters.”Now the third main argument is related to the third and final stage of the novel. This is basically, the end of all laws and order and also complete darkness is dominated on the character. From the novel, it can be noted that they don't have any kind of fear about the laws. They know that under the law if you killed someone then you have to pay the cost. But in that condition, they don't worry about the laws and they just apply their actions to survive from such a huge condition. This is the reason why they don’t care about the laws and just tried to survive from that beach. Everyone at the beach doesn't even care about the laws and orders this is the reason why there is complete dominance of darkness. The end of the story can be seen by this quote from the last part of the story, which stated that “I feel I should provide an account of how we all got back home. But it's going to be a brief account because the story is over. This is just an epilogue” (p.232)

Summing up all the discussion from above, it is concluded that The Beach is one of the best novels for the readers that wanted some suspense and thriller. Additional comments of The Beach

From the novel I have seen that the author has presented quite deep ideas for the reader. Overall this novel is one of the best for the thriller and suspense stories lover. It is also highlighting the fact that it is not easy to survive in the new place. The main reason is that there are a lot of factors that are applied to the person.  In that novel, some strange factors applied to Richard that makes quite difficult for him to escape from that place
