Onyx is basically a stone that has bands that show the warm colors and these colors make the things look more attractive and these rocks are used mostly in jewelry and in the home décor. To maintain and to clean the onyx is a heavy duty and tough task because the onyx rocks are mostly porous an if a person use acidic cleaners they can be easily damaged or if they are exposed to extra moisture they can easily be wrecked an damaged. For the maintenance of the Onyx, use a cloth that is soft and use a mild soap, some mild soaps include the dishwashing liquids and on the onyx sinks and the counters use a food safe sealant.

Cleaning and the Maintenance of the Onyx Sinks and the Counters:

When cleaning the onyx sinks and the top counters make sure to use the damp cloth that is soft and along with it use the mild soap, as the cleaners that are used in the regular household cleaning are more acidic and can damage the onyx sinks and the countertops. Using the mild soaps is a better idea to preserve the onyx sinks and the counters. Using soaps such as the dish washing detergents or the soaps that are labeled as green are acid free and are pH neutral. These soaps will not damage the onyx sinks and the counter tops.

Sometimes the sinks and the countertops have some crust on the spills or crust harden on the surface then to overcome with this problem use the soft bristled brush. Using the brush with hard bristles will put scratches on the onyx sinks and the counters. When cleaning, use the soft bristles brush, wet it, put some of the mild soap upon it and then scrub slowly the sink or the counter.

When you have put the soap all over the sink and the counter before cleaning the spa make sure to remove the soap with a wet cloth.  To clean the soap you can use a new cloth or you can wash and rinse your old soapy cloth and then use it to wipe the onyx surface and the rinse the cloth in between thoroughly to clean the soap properly from the onyx sink and the counter.

After cleaning the onyx surface with a wet cloth make sure to dry it otherwise the onyx sink will be damaged. Pat the surface of the onyx sink and the counter with a dry and clean cloth.

There are some food safe stone sealant that are available in the market. Make sure that you use the sealant twice a year in order to preserve the surface from the stains, etching, the scratches and the damage that is cause by the acid.

Applying the stone sealant on the onyx surface requires some steps; take a dry cloth and then dab the cloth with the dry sealant and after dabbing rub the cloth on the stone, move the cloth in the small and circular motions so that the stone sealant is put all over the sink or the counter tops. Then let the sealant upon the sink and the counter tops for straight 5 minutes and then buff the stone sealant with the dry cloth. To preserve the onyx perfectly make sure to keep the sealant on the onyx for 6 hours, this will help the sealant to soak in the stone and thus helps to preserve the stone.
