Song Analysis of “Cheri Cheri Lady” Song by Modern Talking

It is important to look at the writer as well as composers of a song before making any analysis about it so that it can be known that what type of writer and composer have played their part in creating a particular song. The songs can be cherished due to their tone, voice of the music artist, or the lyrics used in the song. It is up to the personal choice of the audience that which element of a song is liked by them. A song may have good tone and music with variety of musical instruments, but if its lyrics are not interesting enough then it may not attract the listeners as much, and sometimes there is a case that a song’s lyrics are interesting but music behind the song is not catchy for the ears of listeners and it loses all the attraction, which it might have achieved with a good music production. But god thing about “Cheri Cheri Lady” is that this song is not only having great music with variety of instruments being played, but it also has great lyrics as well.

            The song “Cheri Cheri Lady” was written by Dieter Bohlen, and it was originally released in 1985. It is important to mention here that song was sung by two singers; one was Thomas Anders, and the other singer was Dieter Bohlen, who also wrote this song for the Modern Talking group (secondhandsongs.com, 2019). It is great to see that a person, who has written this song, he has also sung it with the other singer. The crucial thing is to discuss about Dieter Bohlen that who he was and how he wrote such kind of songs. Dieter Bohlen belonged to Germany as he was born in Germany in year 1954. In his early childhood, he was somewhat attached to music as he used to play guitar as well as listened the Beatles. He completed his studies in business management, but music was his actual fate, so he started his own pop band in 1985, which was named Modern Talking. Thomas Anders joined him in this journey. He started producing and writing songs, which were mostly romantic in nature. His famous songs list has been long as he is said to be the prince of pop in Germany, and “Cheri Cheri Lady” was also one of those productions (Deutsche Welle, 2003)

            It is true that song writers do write songs and produce them with some inspiration sometimes, but it was not the case with Cheri Cheri Lady. This song was not produced by Dieter Bohlen keeping any particular social or personal reason in context. There can be songs, which are produced for a cause like raising voice for any issue, or making any concern for an issue. But Cheri Cheri Lady was just another song without any particular context. The writer and producer of the song never indicated any specific reason that why his song was written. Dieter Bohlen was running his pop band and they were focusing to release new songs, so it was just another production to attract the listeners form Germany as well as all around the world. When song is listened carefully and its details are analyzed, it was evident that varieties of music instruments were used, and piano was one of the most dominating instruments in this song.

            The song also made various tones throughout the length of the song, and instruments kept changing all along. When it was tried to found out that why Dieter Bohlen wrote this song with these lyrics, nothing considerable was found to talk about. However, song can be analyzed for its tone, melody and rhythm. It had bit fast rhythm, but it was in a flow, and melody was sounding good throughout the song. When lyrics of this song are reviewed in detail, it is shown that a lady is addressed in the song, and a message of love & affection is sent to the lady. The most lyrics are based on romantic lines showing love to the lover. But it was quite interesting or bit shocking for me to see that various lines in the song were repeated too much in the end, which was not a good idea by Dieter Bohlen. I think he could have added more lines to show his love, rather repeating the previous lines.

            In the end, it can be said that analyzing this song, its singers and writer was an interesting activity overall, which allowed me to analyze different genres and melodies of songs with various kind of timbres. It was hard for me to pick one song for this analysis, because huge variety of songs is there. I picked this song as it looked more appealing to me and its romantic tone, melody as well as lyrics were attractive enough for me to select this song. I must admit that overall assignment was a great learning curve for me, because it gave me an opportunity to understand music with more insightful perspectives. I never looked at song, the way I looked at them due to this activity. I listened to this song multiple times after its selection to get idea of its each element. The multiple listening experiences allowed me to observe its lyrics, its tone, melody as well as rhythm, and all these parts were great in so many ways. I must conclude by saying that overall project was a great one to enhance my learning and knowledge about music.
