CSR (corporate social
responsibility) is deemed as the responsibility of the business, and an
organization’s impact on the social, environmental, economic and ethical issues
in the society in which it operates has been seen by many organizations around
the world as a business strategy, and it has secured a significant place in the
business policies and plans. For the adoption of CSR as an integral part of the
proceedings of the business, at an international level, a good number of firms
that are multi-stakeholder and many non-profit organizations as well as
governments are taking actions. Now CSR has been taken as a significant part of
the policies, to satisfy the interests and demands of stakeholders, and also to
build a good reputation that would in turn help in accessing the global market.
The social media has played a very positive role in getting companies to get
involved in CSR initiatives, and informing them about the benefits that it
would give them in turn. The CSR has
gained a significant amount of importance in the past decade and is now being
widely accepted and implemented in many multi-national companies. On the other
hand, the companies are also aided by advanced technologies to deal with the
social and environmental issues. The experts are of the opinion that the
smarter the devices are the easier it gets to tackle serious problems, around
the globe. It has gained the reputation of a complete degree for companies. In
many counties of the world a major focus of CSR activities are the minorities.
The companies that follow CSR, have taken a number of initiatives for the women
empowerment, the rights of minorities and gender equality. A number of
initiatives have been taken by companies that follow CSR, to counter climate
change and global-warming.
We are discussing the CSR
initiatives of an Omani company, for this purpose we have choosed Air Oman,
which is a national airline of Oman. It functions at the international airport
in Seeb, Muscat. It operates domestic as well as international flights. It also
has a system of regional air taxi and charter flights. It is also a member of
the Arab Air Carrier Organization. It is around 25 years old; it was the times
when Oman International Services was established. We will look at what CSR
initiatives have this Omani airline taken.
Findings
and Discussions of
CSR (corporate social responsibility) Initiatives
This organization
according to our findings truly values its Corporate Social Responsibilities,
and it has developed an effective and strong, programme for that purpose. It
has set out its CSR strategies in conformance with its international goals. For
the implementation of the CSR programme it has also taken in consideration the
Oman’s rich culture and the unique heritage it has. The Oman Air, also has the
initiative to promote tourism in Oman, for which Oman has a great potential due
to its culture and heritage, and that will in turn empower the local
communities of Oman. The Oman Air carries out CSR activities on a broad level.
It is also working on the economic, social, and environmental fronts. The main
CSR activities carried out by Oman Air are pointed out below;
Research
and development of
CSR (corporate social responsibility) Initiatives
Oman Air has supported
its local research and development industry to do their work efficiently. The
development of the Omani research and development industry will in turn become
the source of development of the Oman, because in this age of technology, every
aspect of a human’s life is developing and to keep pace with it, it is very
important to excel in research and development. The development of research and
development industry is necessary in today’s world for any nation’s
development.
Beautification
of Oman with its communities of
CSR (corporate social responsibility) Initiatives
The Oman Air, has also
worked for the development and beautification of the local sites and communities
of Oman. It has tried to preserve Oman’s real culture and the way of living of
Omani people and has made an effort to make it even better.
Community-driven
heritage sites restoration of
CSR (corporate social responsibility) Initiatives
It happens very often
that the historical sites and buildings that are few hundered years old
crumble become old due to wear and tear
that happens with time. The preservation of historical sites is very important
for a culture to thrive, as it reminds a nation of what they were and where
they have to go. It also helps to keep the communities vibrant, live and
livable. It’s a great way to connect with your past. Oman Air has also worked
in this sector in Oman, and has restored many sites that had a historical significance.
Cultural
events for underprivileged children of
CSR (corporate social responsibility) Initiatives
Any right or advantage
that a person holds is called a privilege, and underprivileged are those who
lack any such right. There are many children in this world who are living an
underprivileged life, they either do not go to school or have access to the
worst education facilities. Oman Air has worked for those underprivileged
children and have arranged events and ventures that would not only facilitate
them in education but will also teach them the cultural values and traditions
that are important for them to know.
Cleanup
of Oman’s nature destinations of
CSR (corporate social responsibility) Initiatives
For any place to be a
good tourist destination it has to be clean and livable, it is natural that
people would not like to visit a place that is dirty or filthy. It is often
said that cleanliness is godliness, also by practicing cleanliness many of the
diseases can be avoided. The cleanliness of natural sites is very important
because that’s where the wild life thrives. Human clutter has already given
enough damage to the wildlife, now is the time that humans should clean up
their mess. Air Oman has done its part in achieving a clean and green environment
by setting up cleaning activities in the green sites of Oman.
Empowerment
of disabled persons of
CSR (corporate social responsibility) Initiatives
Disabled persons face a
lot of humiliation in society. A person may have one or two disabilities but it
does not mean that they are totally disabled. To make these people a useful
member of the society and also self-reliant, they need empowerment it might be
through education, rehabilitation or through skill-training. Now the world is
giving enough attention to the rights of disabled people and is acknowledging
the fact they have the potential to contribute a lot to the society. 3rd
of December has been declared the day of persons with disabilities. Oman Air
has also played its role in it and has worked for the development of disabled
people in Oman, it has in this way contributed to the social aspect of it CSR.
Development
of rural waste management systems
Oman Air has also taken
an initiative to work for the development of rural areas and for the proper
waste management in these areas. As this is very important, for the health and
hygiene of the people of these areas.
Conclusion
of CSR (corporate social responsibility) Initiatives
According to the above
discussion the Omani company has done really well for fulfilling its CSR in
Oman. All of its initiatives are commendable. However, there is still a lot to
be done, in the environmental and socio-economic sector. If all the companies
around the world, acknowledge their responsibilities towards the society and
promise to pay back their country many of the socio-economic problems would be
reduced and this world would become more livable.
