EBay is among the most popular
e-commerce platforms and one of the reasons why it is utilised by numerous
people is due to ubiquity. Ubiquity means that the e-commerce technology is
available everywhere, at home, work, and through mobile phones. The firm
focuses on ubiquity effectively and ensures that customers facilitated
effectively. For instance, customers can order from anywhere and their products
will be delivered to them within the specified time period. In addition to it,
it can be accessed from almost every device. It is not limited to only desktop
and laptop. Different devices such as tablets and mobile phones can also be
utilised to access it and order. It offers a flexible interface which can be
used from any device according to the requirements of users (Lin, 2020).
Global Reach of Unique Features of EBay
Global
reach implies whether an e-commerce website or firm is providing services to
people beyond cultural and physical borders or not. Actually, this feature is
not effectively implemented by EBay. Although it is quite a popular company and
targets customers of all age, its services are not provided to people all over
the world. There are only twenty-three countries to which the firm offers
services while the other countries have to purchase products through other
means. For instance, there are a number of Asian countries in which EBay does
not operate. Moreover, it does not provide delivery services to these countries
as well. It means that even though customers can purchase from the website,
they cannot receive the products because of the distance between borders.
Universal Standards of Unique Features of EBay
In general, universal standards imply only an individual set of
technology standards for each and every website and platform. Actually, EBay
does an effective job in focusing on this aspect. From all of its platforms and
services, it can be seen that it has universal technology standards established
throughout the firm for each and every platform that it has developed. These
universal standards allow the frim to establish consistency at every level of
their operation because customers from different countries can have the
experience which the firm wants them to have. There is no discontinuity in its
universal technology standards which implies that the same technology is
implemented for all of its platforms. In addition to it, the features of
platforms are also the same (Chaffey &
Ellis-Chadwick, 2019).
Richness of Unique Features of EBay
Richness is a feature which implies
that text marketing message, audio, and videos are integrated into an
individual and single marketing message. Actually, this feature is not
implemented effectively by EBay and it shows inconsistency in this aspect. For instance,
EBay aims to satisfy its customers through its efficient customer services.
However, there are numerous customers who have complains about delayed
deliveries along with receiving wrong products. They have notified that they
did not get their products on the time which was given to them while some
customers have notified that they were delivered completely wrong products. It
dissatisfied the customers. Therefore, there is a need for EBay to ensure that
it satisfies customers to make its marketing effective. At the moment,
consistency is not present in its marketing efforts.
Interactivity of Unique Features of EBay
Interactivity means that customers
are engaged in a dialogue which adjusts dynamically according to the
requirements of the customers and make them experience what they really need. Although
the firm focuses on this feature, it does not deliver perfection to customers.
For instance, it has been determined by some customers that platforms of EBay
take a very long time to respond and it serves to waste their time. However, it
does not mean that EBay does not provide customers with ease of use. User
interface of its platforms is quite simple and it enables customers to do what
they want without facing any issue. This is one of the reasons why it attracts
a lot of customers because they do not experience any difficulty in using the
platforms of EBay and ordering the products they need.
Information Density of Unique Features of EBay
Information density implies the
implementation of a technology which decreases the costs of information and
improves quality. In this feature, the focus of EBay is moderate because it
does not implement an effective technology which enhances the user experience
of customers. Instead of it, they experience delays in using different aspects
of the website. For instance, as explained above, users often complain that
EBay’s webpages take a long time to respond.
Personalisation of Unique Features of EBay
Personalisation means that
customisation of services and products and marketing messages are based on
separate and individual characteristics. EBay focuses significantly on this
features and it is implemented effectively. For instance, it tends to attract
customers on the basis of their interests. For instance, it sends emails to
customers with the content which is relevant to what they have liked before and
what they have purchased before. In this manner, the firm is able to attract
customers in an effective manner. For instance, when customers get what they
really want, they are compelled to visit the website and purchase the products
which they prefer. Thus, it can be said that EBay implements this feature in an
effective manner. It customises its messages and tactics according to every
individual that visits its platforms and purchases a product (Black, 2005).
Social Technology of Unique Features of EBay
This feature is not implemented
effectively as it implies the use of online business and social models which
enable the distribution and development of user content while supporting social
networks. Although users are allowed to provide their feedback to providers,
specific social pages and networks are allowed to be developed by users. EBay
does not allow the creation and development of content by users. Actually, if
the creation of content is enabled by the firm, it will allow users to
influence other users through WoM or word of mouth. Therefore, the firm does
not allow users to create their own content and share it with other users
because it would adversely influence other users if existing customers tell
about their bad experiences.
