Active Listening Skill
RASA Experience of Project Communication
Management and Use of Social Media
As the communication
technologies are evolving people are becoming less focused on listening. They
are forgetting the art of listening. After watching TED talk of Julian Treasure
on listening I have found that we are not listening properly at all to our surroundings.
I’ve come to know that there is a concept of active listening. I’ve then
practised silence and RASA techniques that Julian mentioned in his video. I’ve
noticed that by just being silent we can hear sounds that we never heard or
paid attention to before. It requires you to be silent and focus on your
surrounding sounds. After some time, you’ll start to hear different bits of
sounds that you never paid attention to before. Also, if you increase your
silence time and focus on different sounds channels you can focus on the sound
of your liking which is called Mixer. After practising RASA (receive,
appreciate, summarize, ask) with my friend I’ve realized that you can better
understand people if you use this technique. This technique helps you in understanding
other person’s point of view. By appreciating others, you can grab attention of
others and make them more focused on listening to your point of view. By
keeping your conversation precise and summarized you engage with your audience
on deeper level and by asking them questions you get feedback.
This technique can also
help greatly in project management because communication is the main part of
project management. You can apply RASA technique in project management to make
communication within project seamless. You can handle misunderstandings and
conflicts better by using this technique. Also, by keeping the information
precise and summarized you can avoid overcommunication which leads to
mismanagement in projects. Communication pays an important role in project
management. By implementing Julian’s RASA technique, we can streamline
communication between different channels of project management.
Social Media Usage and Its Impact on
our lives
Social media is
becoming daily part of our lives and we are spending more of our time on social
media than actual socializing. People are running after likes, followers and
subscribers to achieve happiness. But are they happy? I think social media
instead of bringing us together creating a social distance between us. People
are getting confined in little space spending hours on social media and aware
of their surroundings. They are living in a social bubble which is not actual
part of their life. They have created a persona about themselves that they want
to show the world. Social Media isn’t a bad thing in itself. What matters is
how we are using this platform. Is it creating a positive impact on our life
and others or not? We can regulate our social media usage by reducing our
screen time. You can restrict social media applications from showing you
notifications. Social media apps are designed to make you indulge in them for a
longer period. If you want to truly connect with people you should meet them face
by face and have a chit chat.
Covid-19 and our Lives: Due to covid-19 pandemic people have
been forced to live in isolation. All the hustle and bustle of cities is now
gone, and people are quarantined in their homes. This had forced people to
spend time with their family. Before the pandemic people were busy in their
office routine or doing their business and were giving less time to their
family. People are now realizing that life is much more than just 9 to 5 job
and business relationships. They are spending time with their family laughing
together and enjoying little things in life. Now social media is used for
talking with your loved ones instead of posting pictures of your food and
updating status. Social Media is just a tool. If we use social media in a
productive way, we can make a difference.
