 In this report there is brief discussion on the business process management for the construction site. This report is basically related to the business organization that is involved in construction. In the past the development in business processes was not quite enough as it required more and wide range of development. The main reason was lack of management and proper initiative were also required for proper improvement the business. There are some important benefits or advantages of business process management will be discussed. There is need to improve the main process of the company up to its competitive process. For this the company there is need of proper business process management model. The whole report is divided into four main parts. In the first part there is discussion about the need of business process for improving the system of the organization. The next part is related to the business process and organizational maturity. The third part is related to the analysis of the business process in detail and its modeling. In the last part of the report there is discussion about the continuous improvement in the business process for the organization.

 Business Process Management – a construction case study

In this case study the company that is selected is the construction company and this company is located at the port of England and it can be said as company A. For solving the problem in the company, I was hired as the business process consultant in the company. The main goal of the project that I have to accomplish is to have sufficient and critical analysis of the case study. After complete analysis I will propose alternative and supportive arguments to solve the problem. To solve this problem in the construction company there is need of proper business process model and its analysis.

In the construction company A, the requirement is to develop a model related to business process management. This model will enable us to handle business issues and problems. It can be seen that Construction Company is one of the most sensitive company in Europe. There are about more the three million construction companies are located in the whole Europe.  The manager has to analyze all the processes in the company in detail then according to that he must have to improve these processes through giving best and ideal solutions. In the past the business processes are not much ideal the reason is that there is lack of management system due to this proper work was needed on these processes depends upon its value. In 2003 the one researcher was involved in giving proper generic methodology and this can be used for business process management. This comprises of five main phase. The five main phases of business process management are as follows

In the first phase, the main requirement is proper planning to improve the business system and to overcome the business issues. Then after this in the next phase there is proper need of analysis of the existing business process. In the third phase according to the analysis of the previous business process design new and improved business process for the company. In this step the required business process will be developed, and analysis will be carried out for the efficiency and effectiveness of the business plan. Then after this in the next phase develop resources for the new improved process for the business process. Then in the last phase of the business process implement this business process in the organization and handle this process.

In this case study the construction company A is selected that is located in England. This company was founded about 80 years ago. The main issue faced by the company is expansion of the turnover and the increase within specific period of time. Furthermore, the company is struggling with the business processes so there is proper need to improve the required process through measuring the requirements. There is need to improve the main process of the company up to its competitive process. For this the company there is need of proper business process management model. At that time the company A is using enterprise resource planning solution for the accounting work and also for handling different functions in the organization. The present system in the organization failed in combining different information and communication processes. This can be solved through just development in the business process management system of the company. Through this system they can easily able to improve their technology. This company is also facing some problems that is related to IT solution and this can be solved through this efficient system.

Need for business process improvement in construction company

The business process management always plays an important role in the organization. If any organization is implementing this process in their organization so that they can easily able to move forward in the market. Basically the business process management is consist of 5 important process. The first process is design the problem the company is facing. In the next step make a model according to the analysis of the problem. After this in the next step there is need to execute the problem through the help of justification and analysis. After implementation of the new process, the next step is to monitor the performance of the process in detail. In the last process if there is requirement to optimize the solution then it can be done through the analysis of previous process. All of these processes are extremely important for the organization if they wanted to implement new business solution in their organization. If the company implement this business process management system in their organization then it will become extremely easy for them to implement any change. If the organization is facing a lot of problems in their business process then for them they must have to use BPM in their organization.

There are a lot if benefits if the company is using business process model in their organization. All of these advantages of BPM are extremely important the reason is that through this process they can easily able to implement successful business process in their organization. The main advantage of this process is that through this process the company can easily able to improve their business process. The next advantage is that it also creates the opportunity for the organization to change the main business process of the organization. Through this process it will become extremely easy for them to introduce new strategy or regulation according to the demand of the organization. The organization also able to complete the demand of market in proper way.

The next advantage is that with the help of this process the company is able to increase it productivity in efficient way. Through the help of this process it will become extremely easy for the organization to improve those processes that are taking part in their productivity. If these processes are improved then through this it will become extremely easy for the organization to increase their productivity. After this the next advantage is that the organization can easily able to increase their efficiency in proper way. Also the main risks that are related with the business process can be reduced easily without any difficulty.

It can be seen through the help of this process it will become extremely easy for the organization to organize industry regulation in proper way. This process also enable that the organization can able to complete their requirements and improve their system in ideal way. The company that is involved in adopting business process management system in their organization so that they can easily integrate this process in their life cycle.

The employee satisfaction has significant role in the improvement of business and growth of the business. In the construction company there is proper need for the satisfaction of the employees. If the employees of the company are satisfied so that it will become extremely easy for the company to increase their productivity. Through the use of business process management the company is able to increase satisfaction level of the employees. If the company is using business process management model so that the customer focus can be improved in efficient way. This means that the company is able to improve their business process that will help the company to attract the customer focus.

If the company wanted to measure their process sustainability and then according to that wanted to improve it. Then this can be done with the help of business process management. This is because it will change the condition of organization by just changing conditions. Moreover, another advantage of using and implementing business process management in the organization is that it will become extremely simple to remove the gap between the business users and IT. This means that it will become easy to implement technological integration in the organization. This is because it is not a software or any application. It is just the working strategy in the organization that will help the organization to gain a lot of future benefits. The role of working strategy in the business is significant, the improved strategy enables the company to generate more employee satisfaction and more revenues.

There are about five main phases of BPM that are extremely important for the organization if they wanted to implement business process management model in the organization. These phases are design, modeling, execution, monitoring and optimization.

Design

This phase deals with designing of new strategies and plans for the improvement in the process. In this phase the there is need to design the to-be process. Then according to that some areas need to be considered for actual representation of the process flow. For designing the process it is necessary to design it with perfection because the new business process is depends upon the design of the process

 In this phase, theoretical design of the problem is required along with the solutions by using combination of different variables. All of these variables are tested theoretically that are required for this main process. Through this some mistakes can be overcome easily without any difficulty.

This is one of the most important phase of business process management system. The reason is that when the construction company wanted to implement any change in their organization like technological change. After modeling all the main parameters in this phase these modeling parameters will be executed in proper way. In this phase many mistakes in the modeling phase can be overcome quite easily without any difficulty. The execution process includes implementation of new strategies and plans.

In this phase the organization as to measure the new executed plan in detail. In monitoring it will be quite easy to track each and every process in detail. Due to this the drawbacks that can be seen in the process can be highlighted easily. The main aim of this process is to analyze events logs in detail

It is the last phase of this process, in this some drawbacks that are measured in the above process are analyzed again and then optimized according to the requirement of the latest business process. This phase will help the organization to gain a lot of fame and improve the value of business.

There are some important similarities of business process management and BPR. Both of these process contain five main phases. Both of these processes are necessary for the organization if they wanted any sort of change in the organization. But BPM is just related to the limited change in the organization and if the organization wanted great change so they will use BPR. Both of these processes are involved in implementing change in mind-set of the company. in both processes there is some risks that may damage the future outcome of the organization.

It is one of the most important model of any organization that wanted to make progress in proper way in the future. This is also called SEI-CMM. This is because this model is designed by the software engineering institute. For this software complete framework is designed that will help the organization to attract more customers. This technology is used in the software organization that are unable to design mature process in their organization. This CMM also help the organization by guiding them in proper way so that they can easily control all processes of the organization. The next important point is that how this model is playing important role in business process management.

According to the case study the organization is facing some problems that are related to IT technology. The CMM is one of the most efficient software that will help the organization to improve their technology and recover their system in efficient way for the organization. This can be done by implementing business process management model in the organization. It will become extremely easy to implement any change in the organization by just checking the main issue and the apply CMM according to the business process management (Pinggera, et al., 2015).

There are basically four main type of CMM machines that can be valuable for the construction companies. These machines are extremely important for the construction companies. All of these machines are explained in the given section.

This machine is one of the most important and popular machine for the construction companies. This machine is also useful for measuring different coordinates. It will become extremely easy for the user to measure different coordinates in proper way. The cost of bridge machine is too much low and they also have the ability to measure the coordinates in precise way.

This machine is the initial design of Ferranti. This machine is used for shop floor hard bearing machines and this can be used for measuring small and useful parts of the body. In this machine the x-axis measuring machine is attach on the rigid structure. It will become extremely easy to move load at the shop floor (Tang, et al., 2013). The main issue associated with the usage of this machine is that it leaves prints and spots on the newly constructed areas.

This type of machines are used to move heavy and large parts and also for those parts that are required extremely precision in the construction process. It can be seen that many machines are mounted on the flour because it contains substantial foundation. Through these machines it will become easy to program massive parts. The cost of building foundation is extremely high.

This machine is also used by different construction companies when they wanted to lift up heavy weights. The vernier scales are attached as the horizontal arm for measuring different components. There are basically two types of horizontal arm. The first type is related to plate mounted that contain large surface plate. The next type is related to the tow runway mounted because in this machine the CMM runs on dedicated beams. 

There are a lot of advantages of CMM for the construction company. Some of these advantages are listed below. Through the help of CMM it will become extremely easy for the company to met the requirement of the design. All measurements are carried out with proper precision and accuracy. Due to this there is no need to measure it again with the help of these machines.

The next best advantage of this CMM is that there is no need to hire more labor for handling the main processes of the organization. There is too much low labor is required that has the ability to handle all task in the organization with perfection. This is because all designs are made on the software applications that will make extremely easy for the organization to implement any design (Searcy, 2012).

The next advantage is related to the accurate dimension can be obtained easily without any comprehensive efforts. Like with the help of bridge machine it is easy to measure different dimensions and also it is quite easy to measure the actual distance between the two reference points. The robustness is increased through the help of CMM. It will become easy to detect any sort of error from these CMM machines.

Through the help of ideal business process management model it will become extremely easy to handle technological task in the construction company. as the business process consultant of the company A I was involved in making proper strategy for this company that can easily able to cover different tasks that occurred in the organization. Through the help of this business process management model there is some improvement can be made in the business process. This is done through introducing some CMM machines in the organization. There are different CMM machines are introduced in the company A. this will help the company to improve their productivity because technological issued has been resolved. But there was some gap between the IT and the users this is removed through effective training of the employees (Kohlbacher, 2010). The company requires proper implementation of IT system that improves productivity.

The process modeling is the phase in which the corporation model its process to perform various tasks which leads to finished product or service. The process modeling phase is the key phase in BPM. In this phase the organization decides what have to be done and how it is going to be done. In Construction Company usually different construction projects are completed. The constructions companies in the process modeling phase identify how the building is going to be constructed and what things should be considered while constructing it. In the construction industry , improved model is required to be implemented to identify development and progress.

There is a significant differences in the as is and to be processes. The as is process is the current process of the organization which it is using for finishing various tasks. The as is process does not include any further upgradation or improvements. Through as is process the comp[any able to achieve its goals however the company cannot achieve further improvement or efficiency with the as is process. For gaining competitive edge over the competitors or for differentiating the organization in the market it is highly necessary that the corporation should improve its current process and this approach is known as to be process modeling (Klass, 2017).

In the to-be process modeling approach the organization reconstruct the process model so that it can be upgraded according to the latest advancements. The technology around the world is changing rapidly which means that previous process cannot help the organization to achieve the desired goals. In order to sustain in the long run it has become highly important for the organization to bring change or improvement. Therefore to be process helps the organization to not only achieve efficiency and greater performance but also make way for sustaining in the long run (Weske, 2012).

 The organization through BPM achieve certain goals such as increasing the efficiency, reducing overall cost, bring innovation in product & services etc. The ultimate aim of the business process management is to improve the process of the business so that it can grow and can earn significant amount of profit. It is evident that the aim of every major corporation around the world to earn profit and this will only happened when the business processes of any organization are smother and according to the latest market trends. Analyzing the outcomes of the business process helps the business to understand whether its business process management approach is providing desired outcomes or not (IONESCU, 2018).

The business process outcomes should be analyzed because if the business process outcomes are not going to be analyzed than the corporation will unable to bring improvements in the future. The results of the business process will allow the corporation to know whether the goals which have set by the corporation are achieved or not. If the business process is not achieving the desired goal than this is a sign to improve the business process. This can be done by identifying the problems which are causing this issue

As discuss earlier many problems can occur while designing the business process. The lack of planning and limited knowledge can cause the whole business process to fail. It is highly important to consider various factors during the designing phase. Through this the chances of failure will reduce up to lot of extent. It is necessary for the organization to perform analysis of the current business process so that it can know what things needs to be improved and then the plan should be constructed regarding the reconstruction of the business process. Through this organization will have the opportunity to achieve desired outcome (Imran, et al., 2016).

There are various approaches of business process modeling. Various tools or techniques can be utilized for designing the business process. The organizations can utilize flow chart diagram, Gantt chart, Inventory management software, BPM software and lot of other ways for improving or completing the process on time. The various tools can help the company to know which tasks are more important and what should be the priority of the organization. It is up to the organization to decide which tools will be more appropriate for the organization. Some organizations utilize the simple methods and some organization use complex methods for improvement (Brocke & Sinnl, 2011). 

It is important for the organization to decide which tools are best for them for improving the organization’s processes. The employees who use the tools of BPM should be trained so that they know how to improve the business process. It has been seen in many organizations that the employees are not trained for the complex approaches and ultimately the organization unable to achieve the desired outcomes because the whole BPM approach becomes fail. That is why it is important to implement such techniques which do bring success in the corporation (Choudhry, 2014).

As discuss earlier it is highly important for the organization to select such Business process modeling approach which is suitable for the organization and can be easily adaptable with the current business process. Through this the organization can get maximum advantage. If the organization is going to implement success business process approach which is not suitable for the business and the employees are not train regarding that process than it would not bring any success rather it would create problem for the organization. In simple words it is important to choose such approach which helps the organizations interests.

The results of the business process will allow the corporation to know whether the goals which have set by the corporation are achieved or not. If the business process is not achieving the desired goal than this is a sign to improve the business process. This can be done by identifying the problems which are causing this issue (García-Holgado, et al., 2015).

Although BPM provides many opportunities to huge organizations to improve their business processes however there are many key problems that arises when the organization decided to improve their activities through BPM approach. If the corporations are not going to implement the BPM successfully than it is not possible to achieve the desired goals. The first problem which occurs regarding improvement of the activities and modelling processes is the ineffective planning. The organizations sometimes does not plan their processes efficiently which ultimately have negative consequences to the organization. It is highly important when the corporation is modelling its process manually or through using latest BPM software the corporation should identify what it wants to achieve and how the best outcomes can be taken through BPM.

In the modeling the business processes the organization sometimes unable to include all the factors such as providing products in the market faster or complete the construction project before schedule to save cost. So due to these problems the business processes unable to deliver the optimum results or what the corporations want in their final results. It is important for the construction organizations to utilize the best BPM software available in the market. The today’s software have so many features which minimize the chances of human errors. The latest BPM software provide analytics & report features through which the process modeling can improved efficiently. The feature of process performance metrics also help the individuals to know the performance of their process (AnsKolk, 2016).

It is evident that various problems are occurred when the organizations are modeling their processes such as ineffective planning, not considering all the factors which are required for successful outcomes and not identifying the goals which the organization really want to achieve through improving the activities. However for the problems which are discussed above there are many possible solutions one is to utilize the latest technology and the other one is tom improve the planning process. Through this the problems which occur in improving the activities can be mitigated up to lot of extent (Trkman, 2013)

While improving the activities it is highly significant to learn the lesson from the previous mistake which occur in business process management. For instance an organization used BPM approach during the construction of a building. The construction project completed on time without any difficulty however the budget of the construction process exceeds during the execution phase. After reviewing the project it was found out that the reason for increase budget was inefficient use of resources. It means that the workers use the construction material inefficiently due to which more material were purchased for the construction of the building.

By keeping the above example in mind it can be said that the company in future should learned the lesson from its mistake and next time utilize the construction material efficiently. The construction company should use the latest BPM software to know how much resources are being used. By increasing the efficiency of the organization not only the organization will be able to reduce its costs but also the future project of the organizations who use BPM will be finished on time under and under the budget.  In simple words the organizations should learn from the mistakes and by keeping previous mistakes in mind improve their current business processes.

It is important for the businesses or corporation to understand which things have caused problems in the past. Because those are things which influence the organizations to continuously improve themselves for the better future. The continuous improvement of the process will help the organization to gain competitive edge over the competitors. Through reducing the costs the company’s profitability can enhance which will create many new opportunities for the company. The process improvement can help in creating an innovative and improved product which will not only increase the revenue of the organization but also help the company to standout in the market. Today the high level of competition is a matter of concern for the corporations. For tackling with the high level of competition it is important to improve the process with the passage of time so that it can sustain for a longer period of time (Deng, et al., 2016).

For improving with the passage of time the organization must identify the critical success factors which will make their BPM successful and ultimately makes the organization a success. The organization will have to perform a critical analyses to identify which things helped the corporation to become successful in the past. Through this the corporation can pursue those activities for gaining advantage I the near future. Through analyzing the past per5formance the organization can determine the key success factors of its business process. In Construction Corporation the safety & quality of construction are highly significant therefore in order to make a construction company a success these factors must be included in the Business process modeling (Nadarajah & Kadir, 2016).

 The constructions company can review their past performances and can identify the approaches or techniques which have bring success in the project. A good BPM approach helps the corporation to enhance its overall performance. The employees of the company able to utilize their skills more efficiently which ultimately help the organization to achieve its goals. The recent BPM software help the organizations to get5 desired outcomes due to their large number of features. With the help of various features it is possible to get desired results.

The continuous improvement of the process will help the organization to gain competitive edge over the competitors. Through reducing the costs the company’s profitability can enhance which will create many new opportunities for the company. The process improvement can help in creating an innovative and improved product which will not only increase the revenue of the organization but also help the company to standout in the market.
