Why Tech Needs the Humanities

            After analysing the speech of Berridge, it can be said that he relied on logic the most. In addition to using logic, he also relied on the emotional appeal to make his argument effective. For instance, he gave the statistics of how much money is invested in STEM in the US and it is causing organisations to experience difficulties. This indicates the use of logic. Meanwhile, he gives his own example about how he sent the bartender to handle the IT situation and he came out successful which was beyond their expectations. This indicates the use of emotional appeal. Therefore, it can be said that while Berridge used logic strongly, he also relied on and made the use of emotional appeal. Actually, the goal of his argument is to make the audience believe and change their perception of humanities regarding its importance in comparison with STEM.

            I have a research project of determining that artificial intelligence is capable of contributing significantly to the economy regardless of the fact that it has the tendency of increasing the rate of unemployment (Berridge, 2018).

What are the facts?

In case of this research project, there are a number of facts. For instance, it has been determined by a number of researches that and artificial intelligence allows organisations to achieve more efficiency than ever before. This allows them to meet the customer need effectively and it also allows them to reduce their costs. Therefore, they are able to generate more sales and in this manner, artificial intelligence contributes significantly to the economy.

How can the issue be defined?

            Ever since the development of artificial intelligence, numerous researches have been carried out which have focused on AI’s possible future. There are various studies which have determined that if AI is implemented within organisations, it would serve to automate most of the processes and employees would not be needed. It would obviously increase the level of unemployment as people will be replaced by different types of machines. However, on the other hand, a number of researches have been conducted which indicate that AI is capable of improving and contributing to the economy by making firms attain more efficiency. A possible solution has not been developed yet and in this research problem, I will determine that AI is indeed capable of improving economy.

How much does it matter, and why?

            AI is quite a broad field and it offers numerous opportunities for both people and organisations. However, its application remains in the dark because governments are doubtful about whether it would enhance the economy or would it increase the employment level. If a possible solution is found, it would serve to affect the economy significantly and might present beneficial opportunities as well.

What actions should be taken as a result?

            As a result, the government should study and evaluate the application of AI in a small sector. For instance, a small sector should be reserved only for AI and its results should be analysed over a period of five years. Then, it should be analysed whether the application has proved to be effective or not (Lunsford, et al., 2017).
