main ethical issue in the Amazon market power is the approach of the Amazon of
only prioritizing and focusing towards its profit and neglecting the basic
rights of its stakeholders
According
to me, the issue of Amazon approach of only prioritizing profits is the most
important issue that needs to be addressed. This approach is an issue because
it kills basic human rights. To overcome these issues Amazon, have to adopt
different ethical models such as
utilitarianism, deontology, rights ethics, justice, and virtue ethics.
Human rights should always be considered first for becoming a successful
organization as the general public and employees are the main source of any
organization success.
Introduction of Issue in Manufacturing. In Amazon
Amazon is one of
the best company in Australia that provides their product and service in all
over the world and maintain is a strong market image. It uses different
marketing techniques and strategies that promote the product and also compete
for the market most effectively. The strategies of the company are very innovative
and bring the product more attractive because these strategies help to run
their all operations most effectively and they also generate high revenue with
strategies and methodologies. (Keller, 2019)
so here we are discussing a different aspect of the company according to its
effective strategies and its management;
Marketing strategy and implementation
The marketing
strategies of the company are very effective because it captures the maximum
portion of the market and also obtains the attention of customers. Marketing
strategies help to understand the basic requirement and demand of the market
and customers and also give a better understanding that how to deal in the
market to take its place and also obtain the attention of its customer because
when company focus on market and its requirements then it will become more
prominent in less period. Marketing strategy develops by a marketing manager
that study the market and also determine what kind of market must be targeted and
what sort of customer’s capture to make its place in the market. Its
implementation is depending on the marketing strategies and its effectiveness (Kotha, 1998,).
Because when the
strategies are implemented according to real requirement then they generate
results according to the company's point of view and when these strategies are
not implemented properly then they never give the best results. So the
marketing strategies, their development and their proper implementation is the
basic requirement of marketing of the company and then company able to generate
the estimated revenue for making the company strong for the future. Amazon is
utilizing its most effective marketing strategies and make possible its proper
implementation is all the sector of the company. (Isobel Doole, 2008)
Pricing strategy of Issue in Manufacturing. In Amazon:
Settlement of pricing of the product is a most
difficult task for the company because pricing explains the product and its
worth and the price of the product always include all the expenses that
incurred for the development and production of the product. So the company has
to implement the most valuable pricing strategy for the products so that
customers are willing to pay and it covers the basic expenses of the company.
Normally some type of pricing strategies uses in the company like penetration
pricing, price skimming, value-based pricing, competitive pricing and cost-plus
pricing (Coomes, 2014).
These all type of
pricing strategies help the company to settle the price because the company
also consider the market requirement and demand of its customers so that they
have to set the price after determining all these factors and also manage its
revenue because their main concern is to earn revenue. Therefore, they have to
manage their product pricing and also maintain their links with the customers
because the price is very important for the customers and they consider their
purchasing power for the product and also modify their requirement according to
their purchasing power. Pricing strategies must be useable and beneficial for the
company that manage all monetary issues and also make its strong image. (Masson, 2020)
Value chain of Issue in Manufacturing. In Amazon
Value chain explains all the internal
activities and operations of the organization that convert the raw material
into the final product and deliver for sale in the market. Value chain analysis
helps to explain the primary and supportive activities of the company that
enhance the value of the final product and also analyze all the activities
according to cost-effectiveness or differentiation. Value chain analysis help
to understand all the activities that are part of the organization and also
help to explain that what is most and major activities of the company and how
these activities can be improved to get better outcomes and also get
competitive advantages (Sellercentral.amazon.com, 2020).
Normally Porter's Value chain model is utilizing
in the organization to determine it's all activities include primary and
supportive and also manage its all operation according to company requirement
because when the company is unable to produce the revenue or its face issues in
the market then it must be determining to check whether any problem arises in
the internal activities of the company or not then determine what area need
more improvement and must be changed according to requirement. Value chain
analysis help to understand the basic activities that play a major role in the
development of the company. (Gary Gereffi, 2011) The
given diagram explains the primary and supportive activities of the company and
also explains what are its basic activities that focus on its development and
what activities support the production of the company.
Distribution and supply management
Distribution and
supply management is the most important part of every organization because it
helps to deliver the final products to the customers and also to the markets.
Supply management or supply chain management includes all the activities of the
company that involved in the flow of goods and their information from raw
material to final product for the consumers. Supply chain management includes
the delivery of goods and information from supplier to consumer and consumer to
supplier that support the business to improve its productivity and also manage
its all tasks effectively. Its effective supply chain management helps the
company to minimize the cost, provide high-quality product distribution, obtain
the highest level of service of customers and flexibly manage the market trends
according to current requirements (HSIAO, 2019).
The distribution
channels must be also effective and smooth because the transfer of goods from
producer to the user is very important for the company because their all
efforts and all operations have one aim to deliver the product to end-users. So
the company has to manage its distribution channels and also manage its supply
chain management most effectively. The distribution channels and supply chain
management must strong to obtain its required target and also make its strong
position in the market. (ChoonTan, 2011)
Communicating value of Issue in Manufacturing. In Amazon:
Company has a strategy to communicate the
value of customers and it related to the product. In other words, it should be
understanding by the company that for what value customer willing to pay price
and what sort of pricing strategy must be established according to the value of
the product. The value of the product includes its price, its guarantee, its
quality, its knowledge, its variety, response and related services. Company has
to communicate the value of the product with the customers so that they are
willing to buy the product according to value and also determine their actual
requirements (Aboutamazon.com, 2019).
Value means that
how much the product is beneficial for the customer and also determine that the
price of the products suits according to its value or not because pricing
strategy also determines according to the value of the product. For handling
this issue, the company has to understand what the meaning of value for the
stakeholders is and how much they are willing to pay according to their
demanded value of the product. To get connected the customers, it is very
important to determine the value of the product according to the customer point
of view and then set the price of the product. (cutting-edge, 2020)
Above the line and below the line marketing activities:
Above the line,
marketing means that the company is following the marketing strategies that
occur at a wide range and non-targeted. This type of communication develop a
brand and also tell customers about the product at the major level. It also
includes mass marketing strategies to develop the brand at a major level. Above
the line, marketing includes Television, print media, radio and outdoor
advertisement to attract maximum customers. Below the line, marketing means
that marketing strategies focus on the target group of consumers as a specific,
memorable and direct advertisement about the product. This technique follows
the direct marketing strategies that give more attention to direction
conversions instead of building brands among the customers (Fastcompany.com, 2019).
Some of the
examples of below the line marketing are; in-store marketing, brand activation,
sponsorship and direct mail marketing. Below the line marketing strategies are
extremely targeted to its customers and get easy control of its production for
the customers. These two marketing techniques are helpful to capture the market
and customers according to their demand and when company get the information
from customers then it will inform the customers about the product and how to
get that product. The company want to promote its product through effective
marketing techniques and above and below the line of marketing activities help
the company to make famous its products and give information to all the
customers about the products and its features. (PAHWA, 2019)
Product development of Issue in Manufacturing. In Amazon:
Product development is the major part of the
company and product development process includes product and services from its
initial stage to market the product. Product development process help to
understand that how to start preparing the product and how to deliver the
product to end-user and what process or stages occur during the development of
the process because it is not an easy task for the company to develop the
product. It takes proper time and gathers lots of information to generate a
product that beat the market and fulfil the requirements of the customers.
Different stages are involving in this process that explains how the product
moves through the ideation and then ends up with a complete product that is
ready to use (Evans, 2019).
According to the
nature of the product, some stages repeat again and again. But its basic eight
stages include; generation idea, evaluation idea, definition concept, analysis
of strategy, testing and product development, testing of market,
commercialization and launch of the product. The process of product development
may vary according to the nature of the product or service. It depends on the
requirement of the market that what kind of product they want and what
attributes the product must-have. Product development plays a very important
role in the development of the company. (Sutton, 2019)
Market development of Issue in Manufacturing. In Amazon:
Company
is willing to develop its market and for this, it uses the process of market
development. Market development is a kind of business strategy that helpful for
the business to find new ways to capture new buyers and make them potential
customers with current product and services offered by the company. Market development
means that scope of business increase in all type of markets. Potential
customers are related to the competitors and company try to obtain these
customers. For market development, the research of the market is very important
because segmentation analysis helps to understand which market segment needs
more attention and which require more focus (Npr.org, 2019).
A complete market
divided into different segments and then company give attention on the market
according to its segments. Market development basic reason is to expand the
existing market and increase the level of revenue most effectively. Some common
type of market development strategy includes distribution, pricing, promotion,
sales, branding and product development. It means that if a company wants to
expand its production level then it follows the market development strategy and
increase its level of production and development. The company also increase its
number of the customer through market development and enhance the value of the
product ineffective way to increase market development. (Grimsley, 2020)
CSR, ethics and legal aspects of marketing:
Business must concern its social
responsibility by considering its people, environment and society. Socially
responsible marketing means that the company has to take moral actions for the
stakeholders of the company that include shareholders, consumers, employees and
community. So the company has to understand that what is the ethical responsibility
toward society and how they fulfil their responsibility. The company also
manages the corporate social responsibility in the most effective way and also
provides a legal framework to run its all operations. The company also consider
different ethical values to run its operations and also run in the market that
includes citizenship, transparency, respect, fairness, responsibility and
honesty.
The CSR is very
important for the company to determine the product from all aspects and also
manage the product development and it's smooth running in the market. It's the
responsibility of the company to determine all the legal and ethical
perspective of the product and also determine that product is completely safe
and easy to access. No, any issue arises in its usage and its purchase and also
the product is no legally banned or any other legal matter of the company may
damage the image of the product among its customers. So the company has to
determine all aspects carefully. (Michael O. Mojekeh, 2019)
Ethical issue(s) of Issue in Manufacturing. In Amazon:
The
monopoly of Amazon refers to the blockage of social rights for the stakeholders
who are struggling to achieve a level in the virtual marketplace. This also
sets some ethical issues that irrespective of occupation of a person it is very
illogical and ethically wrong acts to not let anyone come forward in your
front. The fact that Amazon not only bounds the other marketplaces but its
sellers as well, they don't let vendors grow up and all the highly-rated
sellers became the victim of Amazon's target attack. But for a company to
become as successful as Intel, Apple, Amazon or Uber, that sort of behaviour
must be isolated (Berzon, 2019).
Amazon
has made no option left for the people to look at and compelling then to visit
amazon just to isolate the marketplace where the buyer has no alternative to
look at. The basic issue in the discussion is how someone can snatch the social
rights from someone just because they cannot see someone above them. For this
issue, all the ethical models can be brought into considerations such as
deontology, social rights, justice and virtue ethics. Scammers have effectively
weaponized Amazon’s anti-counterfeiting program. Attacks have become so
widespread that they’ve even pulled in the US Patent and Trademark. To become a
monopoly in the sector Amazon also not looking deeply into the serious matters
that weapons selling on Amazon are being used against the state and no one can
even identify the source but it has been observed the weapons are being sold on
Amazon’s store and which is not an ethical act done by the seller as well as by
Amazon’s team (Hall, 2020).
The
important facts are concerns of the stakeholders that are growing every day.
Many small entrepreneurs are on the way of quitting their business because with
their resources they are not able to compete with Amazon. We consider many
examples where Amazon captures the business of many competitors by way of
selling the same products below cost and using other different strategies due
to which customers rush towards the Amazon. In addition to small entrepreneurs,
workers are also facing difficulties for jobs because of shutting down a large
number of organizations. These facts will be considered less important if
Amazon takes corrective measures to overcome these issues.
Amazon
has set up different code of ethics for these issues such as code of ethics for
discrimination and harassment and health and safety of employees etc. But
instead of all these codes of ethics which the Amazon follows or not it has
already become a big threat for its external stakeholders, as these ethics are
for the company itself and not provide any support to external stakeholders
against the issues that the stakeholders are facing due to the market capturing
strategies of the Amazon. The important stakeholders in the case are the
working-class people and small entrepreneurs (Coomes, 2014).
These
are affected very much due to market capturing strategies of the Amazon. Small
entrepreneurs are harmed due to the strategy of the Amazon of capturing the
market by way of selling products at below cost prices which small
entrepreneurs cannot do because they do not have that many resources which
Amazon have and as a result, they have to quit their businesses or they have to
join hands with the Amazon for staying in the market. Workers are also affected
by the market capturing strategies of the Amazon because they are getting less
number of employment opportunities and their wage rate is also reduced because
of their less demand.
Pertinent facts of Issue in Manufacturing. In Amazon:
The
pertinent facts explain that Amazon does not want other stakeholders to compete
with it and also we have seen in the past that many growing networks was being
invested by Amazon to rule the market as a dictator. The fact that investment
value is quite attractive when someone is at growing stage and it is invested
by a stakeholder who assures the growth and survival in the market is all about
sustaining and adopting good relations with the major market holder like
Amazon, this compels the small stakeholders to give away their idea and plan in
hands to the dominant party (Evans, 2019).
The
less important facts are that when the dictator takes over any stakeholder, it
is a matter of fact that they show some kind of mercy and help in need to the
stakeholder which is not the reality. It is also unethical to force someone to
give up and be your slave in this modern era of highly civilized culture
especially the basis of the foundation of United States is to give equal rights
to every citizen of the state but in addition to this there is no code of
conduct in the industry to protect the rights of small stakeholders and not
bitten up by the giant stakeholder like Amazon, in an assumption if there is a
code of conduct to look into the matter when Amazon suspends the seller
account, it should be a committee that is regulating the business to avoid such
overcomes and unethical acts by the giant stakeholder.
In
addition to this, the record of business meetings between miniature and giant
should not be confidential and this can also conclude the white-collar crimes
the harms to the state as well. When you buy something on Amazon, the odds are,
you aren't buying it from Amazon at all. Different sellers are selling their
made products on the e-store and Amazon also not verifying the quality of the
product or the reliability in this regard which is again a fact of amazon
breakup from the buyer’s mindset and not only this the store is full of same
alike products with different prices and people are left incomplete disturbance
to choose one of them. For sure Amazon has many sellers verified but the
majority of them are selling what people dislike after opening the package
delivered at their doorstep.
Stakeholders, harms, benefits and rights:
The stakeholders are mostly the sellers who are selling at
the Amazon market place or the people who are engaged in competition with the
Amazon which is currently not possible for anyone to come in their front and if
someone is in a try they will be back step by imposing an offer. Talking about
the harms then it is mostly bear by the vendors who do not know what is
happening in the background and after the suspension of their account, they
still are unable to figure it out. The key benefits are the more and more
strong roots of Amazon system and its wealth and market share as well but
benefit also visible to small stakeholders who have not enough capital to
invest in their business and it is provided by Amazon (Grimsley, 2020).
So, every good deed
has a price and there's no free lunch in any case. Talking about the system of
management Amazon has its law and order system which can be further regulated
to improve so that no one will need to bring court in any case related to
seller and Amazon's team. Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg had also faced supreme
court hearing for disclosing people data privacy but at last, the one with its
system can render any situation like this, so amazon needs to improvise its
system to get a better tag instead of a dictator and monopoly factor. Amazon's judgments are so annoying that their
employees are taking a bribe to disclose the confidential data to the sellers
which is in any case very much unethical and disturbing for the people who
trust amazon. The brighter side cannot reveal these facts as they are hidden
and the background functioning of the system is not understandable by a normal
person.
Alternative courses of action to remedy the problem
The problem can be cured by treating all the stakeholders as
equal and given social rights to the stakeholders and their plea should be
hearing properly the fact that all the laws are implemented on low class only
but in this era, everyone is watching the case and any misjudgment can lead to
discrimination between the giant and less stable stakeholders. The system that
runs all the cases and judgments are made shall be highly isolated and no means
of any personal relationship with any seller should be brought up in the case
to bias the judgement, the people who are making decisions should be paid high so
that they will not run after the bribe to sell their honesty for few dollars.
Although well-known and international, using Etsy is still "supporting
local business" because the vendors are all small business owners (HSIAO, 2019).
Even if you are purchasing something from someone living
across the globe, you can be sure your money is enhancing the lifestyle of an
individual, not fueling a big corporation. I just learned about this and it's
brilliant! "Buy nothing" is like a Craigslist giveaway for your
neighbourhood. People post in the group showing what they have to offer, and if
it's a popular item, it can be given on a first-come-first-serve basis, or
raffled off — however people choose to do it! The cool thing about "Buy
Nothing" (other than free stuff) is that it builds community. You get to
know your neighbours better and build trust with each other. And I believe the
community-driven effort is an important part of being a conscious consumer.
Possible alternatives and outcomes and effects on all the parties involved
Possible alternatives are to categorize all the stakeholders
as per their respective tags and a regulating authority to look after the
market places and justice shall be given to the stakeholders which are targeted
by the giant marketplace. This will regulate the markets and any abruptions in
any market will be noticed and there will be no offences. This will give
benefit to the small vendors who are selling their products on Amazon and
Amazon will be restricted to keep in its place and won't interfere in others
business and issues, like mentioned in the analysis, will be minimized. All the
benefits will be given to the small stakeholders. These consignment-like
boutiques vary from town to town, with items from used books to clothing and
the funds go toward supporting a local nonprofit organization. It’s a win-win
in my book (Berzon, 2019).
In my town, there's a thrift store that donates all profits
to a group that helps end violence against women; then there's a spiritualist
bookstore that serves delicious tea and hosts outdoor farmers' markets. It's
refreshing to find unique shops that also go toward an uplifting cause. Whether
you browse your local Goodwill or find a cute new shop with speciality items,
you might be surprised what you can find within a few miles of your home. And
there's got to be a bookstore that still exists somewhere, right? Sure, it
requires leaving your desk to go browsing, but you'll feel more connected to your
community after a day of window shopping and chit-chatting with cashiers. Let's
keep the human connection alive (cutting-edge, 2020).
Recommendation based on analysis of the case
The case can have many recommendations as it is very deep in
all manners and no one can realize how crucial it can be when someone is at the
sake of suspension of his store from Amazon and his all efforts in the past
year will go in vain, no one realizes but the seller himself so the laws which
are made by Amazon should have amendments so that sellers will have more rights
and if everything in its right way then no one will be jealous or try to pull
other's leg in the market. The central purpose of these laws was to protect
liberty and democracy from concentrated economic power, or what Franklin
Roosevelt called "industrial dictatorship." The fact that Amazon is
trying that no one will ever be in its competition then this is wrong change
always come with time and no time is required to demolish the roots that are
made in years but bring down in days, so never the time remains same for all.
The recommendation is something which should be accepted and
implemented on everyone. If amazon successfully verifies all its sellers, then
it will more convenient for the state to regulate any state against the act by
targeting the specific person or class which is involved but as a matter of
fact, Amazon is doing business and gives priority to its market share over
these miniatures. More recommendations are to gather all the small stakeholders
in this segment to settle down all the misunderstandings and bad thoughts about
each other and try to categories the market so that people will more join the
eCommerce and promote their businesses using technology and digital advertising
platforms.
It's not hard to imagine a future in which Amazon's
cashier-less supermarkets and nondescript bookstores populate better-off
neighbourhoods, while other communities become increasingly barren of
commercial activity. The case study recommends that monopoly of Amazon should
be reduced by giving more attention to the other stakeholders and by regulating
the business firms to get a productive business in the market places. The
monopoly will be also be decreased when people have more options to adopt
rather than sticking to one but this cannot be done without the consent of
amazon and other stakeholders.
Conclusion of Issue in Manufacturing. In Amazon
In the Nutshell, we can say that Amazon must have to
consider the factors through which it can win the trust of its stakeholders.
Amazon should have to develop the strategy through which the results of the
action which Amazon take for overcoming the issue of its stakeholder's right
are maximized. Amazon must also understand first that its approach for
capturing the market is becoming harmful for stakeholder's interest and actions
must be taken to address the concern of the stakeholder's and for this Amazon
must have to differentiate first that what is the main concern for the
stakeholders and what is not.
Amazon should also have considered that the actions that it
takes for addressing the stakeholder's concerns are justified or not If the
actions are not justified than Amazon these should not be considered for
overcoming the issues. The approach of the Amazon must be just and for all the
stakeholders not for any specific class of the stakeholder. Due to the monopoly
of the Amazon in the market, the workers are not getting the wages that they
deserve and same is with the producers of different products their interest of
getting the reasonable prices for what they produce is also at stake because of
the Amazon Monopoly. These are the very big issues and for addressing these
Amazon must also have to be honest with its stakeholders and should develop some
serious strategies to give them opportunities So that they can also earn
reasonably.
