Bauman is trying to say that modern
and social norms of modernity are the driving forces, which played their part
in Holocaust. If these were not the drivers, then Holocaust type incident
should have happened earlier. He actually tried to establish the fact that
Holocaust was not just an idea, but it had to get some resources so that idea
can be made practical in the real world, and those technical and social
resources were created, practices, as well as, found by the essence of modern
civilization. So, he is also trying to assert that such kind of incident still
can happen because world has become more modern with more technical and other
resources. But I don’t agree with the idea of Bauman that we should expect one
more Holocaust at any given time. It is unlikely to happen, because in recent
era, there is no such example. There is no man so powerful on earth and to make
such horrific decisions because now the world has a proper system, and there is
so much awareness amongst public due to media and technology. In reality,
anything can happen, but as far as ground realities are concerned, there is no
chance for any other Holocaust in the Western World (Neu & Graham, 2004)
