It appears that even flamingos are tired of
the lockdown. A flamingo managed to escape from its enclosure and it was filmed
wandering in a street in Dudley.
The long-legged bird seemed to enjoy its
adventure as it walked past the construction fences on the main road. Instead
of walking in parks, it walked through construction sites. It was only in
minutes that keepers from the zoo appeared on the scene and managed to catch
the bird.
It was stated by a keeper: A flamingo of
ours did not consider the advice of staying home and staying safe very
important. Our keepers appeared on the scene in only a few minutes and returned
the flamingo safely back to its enclosure where she is self-isolating.
Since March 22, Dudley Zoo has not had any
visitors because it has been closed ever since because of coronavirus. Thus,
birds have a lot of quietness and peace to enjoy.
It has been stated by the zoo: During the
afternoon, flamingos were in the enclosure when the weather turned quite
blustery and a gust of wind carried a flamingo out of the enclosure. However,
thanks to the public call, the bird was located quickly by keepers and after a
quick health check-up, she was returned to her flock. When the flamingo was
actually located, she was present on a grass lawn within the grounds of zoo. It
was later on that we realised that she had visited Caste Hill road as well.

Indonesian Villages Relies on Ghosts for Making People
Maintain Distance
Countries around the world are experiencing
difficulties in keeping people away from each other. It is time for new
tactics. An Indonesian village relies on ghosts to enhance social distancing.
As it has been reported by BBC, people of
Java have taken to use volunteers dressed as ghosts for spooking people into
distancing from each other over coronavirus. The villagers began using
bed-sheet patrols last month. In the folk stories of village, pocong are
ghostly figures and they tend to represent trapped souls of dead people. In
accordance with the staff of a news agency who visited to see volunteers
acting, they felt as if these ghosts had the opposite effect on people. Instead
of scaring people, they seemed to attract them into coming out of their houses
and spot them.
In spite of it, it is stated by locals that
matters of social distancing have experienced an improvement with the new
method. A resident explained that ever since pocong appeared, children and
parents have not been out. People also do not stay or gather on the streets.
Even though it is slightly bizarre, using
ghosts is not the only strange method which has been used for bringing
attention to the issue of outbreak. It serves to cause people to take their
attention to the outbreak and make sure that coronavirus does not spread. After
all, it is quite a deadly disease, capable of crippling even the most developed
economies.

Algerian Students, with their Memes, Participate in
Anti-Bouteflika Protests
Thousands of students marched in the
capital of Algeria for seeking a fifth term for a second week.
Similar to their peers who seemed to hold
similar protests across the nation, the students took to the streets in Algiers
to reject the candidacy of the 82-year-old in the elections. A student of
science and technology determined: There is no person who desires a fifth-term
for Bouteflika. They are treating us with contempt and this is ridiculous.
On Tuesday, slogs were chanted by the young
protesters against the ailing leader. It was notified by his brother that the
candidate has a major political influence. Students focused on government
inefficiency and widespread corruption. Other than the political banners and
flags, there a significant number of cheeky signs on display during the rally
of students. In fact, there was also references to pop-culture.
‘Algeria has no master’ was stated on a
banner, which gave reference to a line said a character in the series of Harry
Potter. ‘Accio loyal government’ was stated by another sign which imitated the
spell of a fictional wizard.
It was written by another student: ‘Where
is democracy? I don’t see it.’ It is also a meme which is inspired by a show,
Dora the Explorer. Humour is one of the many ways in which Algerians have been
dealing with the absence of president since the eruption of mass protests last
month. New protests are planned in which more memes could follow suit.

Prehistoric Monkeys Rafter to South America from
Africa on Floating Islands
It is stated by scientists that a
remarkable journey might have taken place approximately 34 million years ago.
A species of monkeys which has become
extinct now made a significant and remarkable journey to South America from
Africa, across the Atlantic Ocean on a natural raft. It is believed that the
prehistoric monkeys made a journey of over 900 mils when two continents were a
lot closer. They relied on floating vegetation islands which were broken off
from coastlines.
Professor Erik Seiffert said that the trip
would have be incredible tough for other animals. However, it was quite easier
for small monkeys. He also explained that small animals with the size of
Ucayalipithecus would actually be at an advantage over animals with large sizes
such as mammals in such type of a situation because they would have seemingly
required less water and food that their vegetation raft could have provided
easily.
It has been determined that this is a
unique discovery. It indicates that other than a group of rodents and New World
monkeys, there is actually a third lineage of mammals that made this improbable
journey to get to South America from Africa.
The monkeys were noted to have been
descended from ancestors in Africa through their resemblance to Egyptian
monkeys’ teeth. It has been determined by scientists that the migration might
have taken place approximately 34 million years ago.
