Consumer
Consumptions Quality Management
Executive Summary of Consumer Consumptions Quality Management
For thirty-five years, Consumer
Consumptions had been run effectively by Emory Spellman. The organisation had
initially been a variety store and over the years, the store had grown into a
number of retail stores, automobile rental, consumer financing, credit card
financing, and kitchen appliance manufacturing company. In recent times, the
organisation has begun to lose its profitability and efficiency in the market,
mainly because of its problems with quality. These issues can be resolved with
the implementation of a Total Quality Programme that integrates the Six Sigma
Methodology. In addition to these measures, DOE or Design of Experiment can be
considered for improving the quality of processes and aspects.
Issues of Consumer Consumptions Quality Management
At Consumer Consumptions, Spellman
has had the objective of making sure that profits are produced and the
organisation operates in an efficient manner in the market. In fact, quality
has not been the main priority for Spellman. Due to it, the reputation of
organisation has experienced a severe blow in the market because customers have
been experiencing problems with the products. This has put the firm in a bad
position in the market and if the needs of customers are not met in a better
manner, the firm will only experience a loss in the number of customers
purchasing its products. Spellman holds a meeting with the manager of every
sector of the organisation to identify the problems.
When it comes to the sector of
materials, the issue is that right products and services are not delivered by
the suppliers. Over time, it has gotten worse and this plays an important role
in why unreliable products are produced by the firm and customers are
experiencing problems with the products. In case of production, the issue is
that the schedule is quite tight and meeting it is problematic. Since the
deadlines are tough and materials are not right, those products are
manufactured which are not reliable and they are not up to the standard. In the
sector of quality, the problem is that the quality team is not large and there
are too many issues to be covered. For instance, there exist issues in almost
every sector and covering all of them is very time-consuming. Due to it, all
the issues are not resolved in an effective manner. In the service sector, the
issue is that meeting the needs of customers has become difficult because they
are calling more than ever before. There seem to be problems in washing
machines and other products of the company and all of them are reported by customers.
It is determined that customers should not be calling as much as they are doing
because more than expected issues are occurring.
These are the main issues that need
to be resolved for Consumer Consumptions to be effective and for Emory Spellman
to ensure that his organisation gets a decent deputation about meeting the
quality standards.
Recommendations of Consumer Consumptions Quality Management
First of all, it is important to
recognise that quality management is considered an important aspect and part of
every organisation. Therefore, for the resolution of issues identified above,
the implementation of a TQM or total quality management programme is vital.
Total Quality Management of Consumer Consumptions Quality Management
Total quality management is actually
the process of consistent identification and reduction of errors in customer
service, manufacturing, production, and other areas of the business. As the
name implies, the objective of total quality management is to ensure that the
predetermined quality standards are met by the business. As it has been
determined above, there are issues in Customer Consumptions in the areas of
production, quality management, and customer service. Therefore, the aim of TQM
will be to resolve this issue. The quality management team should be expanded
and there should be a quality manager for the implementation of programme (Oakland, 2014).
Design of Experiment of Consumer Consumptions Quality Management
With the implementation of total
quality management, it is important to consider design of experiment because it
will help in systematically determining the relationship between different
factors which affect a specific process and the output of the process. For instance,
this will indicate that issues in manufacturing are occurring because of
ineffective products or materials delivered by suppliers. Every other issue is
connected with this issue and they seem to stem from it. DOE will help in
determining that the main issue is concerned with inefficient materials
obtained from suppliers and other issues are resulting from it. This evidence
can be further solidified with the implementation of Six Sigma Methodology (Goetsch & Davis, 2014).
Six Sigma of Consumer Consumptions Quality Management
Six sigma is a methodology that
helps in the resolution of problems and improvement of quality. For instance,
it gives DMAIC method that will help in not only finding relationships among
problems but will also help in their resolution. This method will help in
defining the issue, measuring the details, analysing the data, improving the
process, and controlling how the process is performed in future. For instance,
in this methodology, root cause analysis can be conducted for identifying which
issue is connected with which issue and how they can be resolved. It will help
in determining that quality can be improved if quality materials are obtained
from suppliers and they are utilised for producing the necessary products. This
can be done by finding new and more reliable suppliers. In addition to it, the
analysis will indicate that quality issues are not being resolved because the
team is not large enough to cover all the problems. Therefore, this issue can
be resolved by expanding the quality management team. Production is
experiencing issues because of unreliable materials and tight schedules. This
issue will be resolved by finding suppliers that provide and deliver
high-quality materials and increasing the production capacity (Mehrjerdi, 2011).
Conclusion of Consumer Consumptions
Quality Management
Overall, it can be said that the issues faced by Consumer
Consumptions can be resolved with the implementation of a total quality
management programme. This programme can be augmented by design of experiment
and six sigma methodology. It will help in identifying the issues in a more
accurate manner, resolving them, and improving the quality.
