Literary Analysis Essay
Lord
of the flies is a novel written by William Golding, the story of this novel
revolves around a group of different British young boys who have been stranded
on an island after getting their plane sot down. This group encounters number
of different problems while they were stranded on an island, number of
different disputes took place between the boys. Confliction has been seen
clearly all the way through the whole novel no matter whether it has been man
vs man, man vs himself or even the man vs their nature. From different ways,
Golding portrays the confliction between two different characters Ralph who is
the leader of civilized group and then Jack who is the leader of savage group. Writer
also reveals that the growing tension between the savagery and civilization in
three key moments of the rising action: when fire of the signal let out and the
boat passes by the island, second when Jack leaves the civilized group for
creating his own, and last one is when the savages steal the Piggy’s specs for
making their own fire. If all these events would not have been a part of the
novel then climax wouldn’t be possible.
The
very first key moment is the rising action which shows the growing tension
between the civilization and the savagery is the moment when Jack along with
his hunters easily let the fire to die out and causing one of the ship to pass
by without any of the smoke signal by showing and allowing the different group
of boys for missing an opportunity of being rescued. This key moment is very
important because it it marks out the very first strife among the antagonist
and protagonist in a novel.
Then
the next key moment is the rising moment where the writer reveals about the
growing tension between the civilized and savage is when Jack finally decides
to leave the group. This is one of the key moment because confliction between
the Ralph and Jack has started to grow because of the verbal disagreement
towards the actual division between the savagery and civilization. This is one
of the events that shows the growing tension between the boys because all of
them compete against one another to become the interior chief, resulting in the
action of rivalry to all of the new levels. If this event wouldn’t have
occurred then obviously climax would not have been possible because both of the
two groups would still be living together as one of the confliction between the
boys have reached to extreme level. Due to this confliction, next conflict also
eventuate.
Final
key moment is one of the rising action which also shows the growing tension
between the savage and civilized is when Jack along with his lot steal the
glasses of Piggy from the civilized camp for creating a fire to cook the mean
on it. This is the key moment because it shows out the different boys acting
out the different kind of animals and savages, “Then there was the vicious
snarling into the mouth of the shelter along with the plunge and thump of
different living things”. This is the event that also shows out incorporation
along with the greed of the different savages as they resort for the purpose of
doing theft. This is the one which shows the great difference between the savage
and civilized as Piggy and Ralph both would have approached this situation in a
different way to ask out for giving the glasses back as compared to stealing
them just. If this incident in the novel would have not happened, climax would
have not been possible because the different civilized boys would never had to
confront for the savages related to the theft of spectaculars which would
therefore have prevented the death of Piggy. Another thing is that if savages
didn’t have any access for the glasses, they would have not been able to start
the fire which could lit the signal which ultimately resulted the boys to get
rescued.
To
show out all of the growing different conflictions between the savage and
civilized, Golding has used three different incidents in a rising action. All
of these moments were the key climax to take place because all of the get
linked to each other and then depend on one another. Golding also links all
these different incidents that takes place in the novel for the real life
through showing out that every person has a savage within them and some of them
turn to it quickly as compared to others.
