Once
there used to be a time when one could always count on the different kind of
media channels for having proper and up to date information that what’s going around
them. From last few years, media is a platform which has no doubt gained
reputation but along with this, media now emphasize on all the unnecessary
details which are of no use at all. Such different forms of mass media are
notorious to affect the minds of all the audience to a much greater extent.
News like these is not just affecting the minds of the audience but making them
a serious depression patient as well. Media has branched out from two
traditional platforms (print and television) to social media and women are
actively taking part in this media no matter in what form. (Warner, 2019)
Main
Body of Women in Media
Advertisements
are the one that have played one big and major role in almost lives of everyone
apart from the people who don’t have any access to television or any kind of
the print material and this case is much exceptional in such advanced era.
Advertising is one major factor to make different things get famous among
people living around different corners of the world. There are many different
kind of the advertisement companies that use the ploys to give all the audience
a reason for buying their product which they try to sell out. An example can be
seen here that if a person turns on their Television and a person see
advertisements in between the favorite sitcome. A person probably here won’t
notice at all that the way most of the women gets portrayed in different
advertisements to sell out their product. Many of the women in the media of
today’s world are being portrayed or shown as the sex object and many of the
companies make advertisements by having women in their adds to sell out their
product on a large scale. There ae much chances that one don’t notice such
things because this has now become a trend and it is much common with the
advertisements. This may also seems to be one of the harmless way for the
promoting of a product but these kind of advertisements can also have a great
and negative effect on our society. (Stewart, 2019)
History
for the Western’s Culture opinion of the feminine beauty has changed a lot over
the centuries. Women who used to be curvy as well as bigger used to be
considered as the most attractive but these days trend has now done into
different and opposite direction. Concept has somehow changes a lot from the
previous time period and it is not same at all. These days, women are becoming
more prominent in the working force and they also play one major role in
today’s economy as well. (Ette, 2017)
Media
bias just doesn’t occur due to a single reason but it has various reasons. It
takes place when any of the journalist or common people especially women are
being connected with the reporting of a specific event, they have their own
prejudiced opinions about any of the particular thing and at the end, it
results into a slanted version of a story. At many times, there are specific
media which often shows political bias towards the specific news event. This
only happens when that channel is in favor of a particular candidate or party.
In
today’s world women have been seen portrayed in a much different way back from
the year 1890s and till now. In the previous time period, women used to be
dressed up properly and they used to cover themselves with clothes to show that
they do have a class. In previous times, women used to be considered as a weak
group but now with the passage of time as the media has shown great revolution,
same is the case with the perception or thinking about women. Now women is not
as weak as the society thinks about them. (Want, 2017)
Growth
of the mass media in all of the recent years have made a huge effect regarding
the looks of the women in different societies. Through the help or support of
different communication technologies, perception of the different men has
completely changed about the women and the result is what we see that women is
today.
As
it has been already discussed above that advertisements are the part in the
life of every person that plays a major role along with portraying many things
as well. No matter whether the advertisement is short or long but we see that
in most of the advertisements women are being seen everywhere. This has been
discussed at many different places that how women are being portrayed in the
media? Well this should not remain a question anymore because we see clearly
that women are being used in the platform of media just for different purposes
like having the attention of different viewers along with making the sale of
different products to be grown.
In
the world of media, it has already set some of the high standards impossibly
and as a result of all this is that it makes a women in the losing position in
the real life. This media has already set a very firm message that says, worth
of every women is completely dependent upon their sexuality. Women’s sexuality
is also being valued mainly upon their beauty along with their performance as
well. As the media has already set some of the high standards on the beauty of
women, and therefore women definitely will spend an ample amount of the money
on different beauty products to make themselves look pretty and attractive as
much as possible. Clothing is also another important factor here about which
women get conscious to bring themselves to a certain level. Unfortunately by
the concept that I have mentioned in the above paragraphs as well about the
sexual depictions of the women, they are being set up to be disappointed and
failed completely. This is completely because of the reason that no women in
this world can be shown as innocent as well as sexual at the same time so
therefore women are being forced to choose wither one. (Suwana, 2017)
Women
are considered to be vulnerable and they have been treated unequally in almost
every aspect of the life. If there lies no active involvement of the women in
different aspects of the life, there are much chances that the world may not
function properly as it can be and it may even fail without women and the
reason is that women occupies almost half of the population on this planet Earth.
In all of their lives, women needs to make a stand and they also need to
realize that all of the women in this world has an equal rights same like men
and they should not be treated any less. They have equal rights to the men not
just in working but in education, health sector, economic security and almost
every sector. (Ross, 2018)
Conclusion
of Women in Media
Media
has the power to influence the audience at large. In this time there are many
media outlets, let it be electronic, print and social which help shape the
perception of the audience at large. Due to the growing competition, it is of
no surprise that outside influences or certain bias are bound to affect the
presentation of news events. Media should act responsibly and adhere to ethical
framework. It is the responsibility of the journalist to not allow personal
bias to be evident in the news reporting. The news media outlet should present
facts as news rather than opinion as facts
So
at the end I would like to conclude my essay by saying that Media is the
platform in which women are actively taking part and no doubt in the fact that
this has positive as well as the negative impacts but we are the one who can
change the perspective from negative to positive and things can be easy and
better for the women. We should not be the one to judge women and especially in
today’s world of advancement.
