Background of the Company (Toyota)

Toyota motor corporation is a largest automobile manufacturing company in the world that started in 1933. There are more than 600 subsidiary companies that are involved in the production of commercial and industrial automobiles, and automobile parts. The headquarters of Toyota are in Toyota city in east of Nagoya Japan.  In the present work the value stream mapping is considered for Toyota.

Steps in Creating Value Stream Mapping of the Company (Toyota)

Value stream mapping can be described as a process items that flow through the value stream. for instance, in the manufacturing industry value stream mapping consider material items, design, and development of design items. In the service fields the mapping is used to fulfil the needs of the external customers. the value stream system centers on the added products and services that change the function and market of the services.  the steps of developing value stream mapping are listed below,

1.      Develop a team that create lean value stream map

2.      Develop Kaizen Kick off and Value stream map planning

3.      Identify the process family while planning

4.      Identify the similarities

5.      Create the current state map with VSM planning

In the 5th step of the value stream map the team who is responsible for creating the map in Toyota Corporation begin adding the information in the map. The information which the team gathers in step 4 is now added in the map. Under each process data boxes are added. Under the data boxes the timeline of each process is included. This provides information about the actual time spent by the organization to produce the product and the lead time which is required for production of the goods. In this step all the important data is mentioned in the value stream map.

Identification of waste of the Company (Toyota)

The value stream mapping of Toyota increase feature and functionality without increasing the material usage and wasted time. Toyota production system use VSM for the waste production management and the process analyze material handling at each step. In the VSM of Toyota production system the process uses typical material information, mapping and process mapping for the management of the waste. The value stream mapping in Toyota undergo through four steps starting with determination of process family, drawing the current state mapping, determination of future state map, and planning that arrive at the future state. The VSM model of Toyota examine the matrix with the similar and identical processing steps. For Toyota, it is important to find if there are some similarities in the functions then group them together with the same VSM team.
