Numeracy
demands of learning area in Australian Curriculum
The Numeracy is the general ability which is
also developed in the learning area of the Australian curriculum. Then
determined the demands of Numeracy of an F-10 Curriculum by using the various
model of Numeracy which is also incorporate by the mathematical knowledge, context,
tools, disposition as well as the critical orientation which is used in mathematics.
By the finding in the history curriculum, the audit of finding with the proper
format is also presented in the below which is distinction among the opportunities
of the curriculum as well as numeracy demand plus uncover the mismatches among the
claims which created regarding to numeracy of curriculum materials. The
numeracy idea is not new where its first term is appeared in a Crowther Report
of 1959 as well as various subsequent reports along with the investigations of the
Australia is also emphasized by the importance of numeracy like the significant
key of economic as well as social well-being.
The curriculum of Australian is presently
being developed for the learning area which is also set out in the Melbourne
declaration. Thus to developing the numeracy
across the curriculum of Australia is
the nation which is also gained by the little ground in the Australian Curriculum
that might be provide the new impetus which tackle the significant issues (Goos et al ,
2012 ).
Task

In this report according to the requirement
of task, first student know about the Curriculum of Australia which is also selected
the experiment and filled the template.
Identified
numeracy demand of Numeracy demands of learning
area in Australian Curriculum
Now identifies the numeracy demand which is
one of general capable which apply across all of the content of discipline and it’s
not in mathematics. The Australian Curriculum version (ACARA, 2012a) which
permits the various support to identify the numeracy demands of the various
learning area. For example, the water Quality requirements which providing the numeracy
learning continuum and connected by the filters as well as icons which is also
linked by the numeracy capabilities for the relevant curriculum content. Therefore
the Curriculum of Australian is stilled lacked by theoretically which is also
informed by the model and characterizing of numeracy as well as like the result
of teachers which had the little guidance to recognizing numeracy demands of water quality requirements and its mathematics
along with the embedding numeracy learning opportunities (Geiger et al
, 2013)
.
Opportunities
for numeracy development of Numeracy demands
of learning area in Australian Curriculum
The opportunities of the numeracy developments are;
·
Figurative
·
Emergent
·
Perceptual
·
Counting on
·
Facile
The overview which is expected by the understanding in very opportunities
which is included as below and the examples of the task for various developments
is also available.
Numeracy task
design of Numeracy demands of learning area
in Australian Curriculum
For this curriculum analysis the numeracy
task is about the water Quality testing as shown in the below template. In this
water quality testing also determine the various chemical parameters like the alkalinity,
hardness and the oxygen demand of the water samples. In our life is needless to
emphasis on the significance of water. And without the water on planet there is
no life. For the different purpose we need water like for the drinking, for irrigation,
for industries as well as fishing (Vlab.amrita, 2019).
Describe your
curriculum analysis
The Curriculum development which is also
includes the building of curriculum which order to show the coherent plan, and
the curriculum analysis which is includes the unpacking of the curriculum to
understand the plan.
The Curriculum analysis which is unpacks into
the various parts of components example the teaching learning knowledge and the
society resources. It is also evaluate the in what way the parts fits together
and say in the terms to focused as well as coherence. The Curriculum analysis also
check of underlying assumptions as well as beliefs along with the two seeks the
justification for curriculum with assumptions and choices.
Design and provide a task, and (TEMPLATE IS ATTACHED)
Task Overview: Creating a One-Point
Perspective Artwork
Year: 10
|
Topic: Water Quality
Testing
|
Number of Lessons (length): 3 x 70 minutes
|
Context: In this task, students will measure the
quality of water from different sources. The objective of this task is to understand different
parameters for water quality like hardness, pH, alkalinity, chlorine and use
these concepts to calculate the quality of water and assess if it safe for
drinking or not.
|
Key Concepts from
Science Curriculum
Science Understanding (Chemical Sciences):
·
Different types of chemical reactions are used to produce a range of
products and can occur at different rates (ACSSU187)
Science Inquiry Skills:
·
Collaboratively and individually plan and conduct a range of
investigation types, including fieldwork and experiments, ensuring safety and ethical
guidelines are followed (ACSIS125)
·
Use knowledge of scientific concepts to draw conclusions that are
consistent with evidence (ACSIS204)
|
Numeracy elements
|
Numeracy Key Ideas: Estimating and
calculating with whole numbers, using decimals, using measurements, using
graphs and relations
Mathematics
Knowledge Concepts:
·
Use scatter plots to investigate and comment on relationships between
two numerical variables (ACMSP251)
·
Construct and interpret box plots and use them to compare data sets
(ACMSP249)
|
Tools: Physical tools
like water quality testing kits, calculators
|
Dispositions: Students will work individually which will increase their theoretical
knowledge of pH, water hardness and other indicators of water quality.
|
Critical
Orientation: Students will be required
to test water from different sources and then categorize them into drinkable
and non-drinkable which will also allow them to critically analyse why water
from different sources differs in quality a lot. They will also help them understand
the relationship between different quality indicators and how one quality
indicator affects the other.
|
Timeline &
Phases / Lessons:
Lesson 1: part1- Teach students the concept of acidity, pH, water
hardness, why chlorine in used in water.
part 2 – Demonstrate them how to use testing kits to calculate the different
indicators of water quality.
Lesson 2: Students will work individually to evaluate different water
sources.
Lesson 3: Discuss the results of the students and discuss why the
results are different for water from different sources.
|
Teaching
Strategies:
Explicit teaching – Revise the concepts and teaches new required
concepts.
Demonstration – Demonstrate students how to use testing kits.
Student-centred experimental work.
Class discussion

Write a rationale for the task based on research.
Water
quality is a pertinent issue across the globe. Harmful bacteria and other
harmful chemical are found in water which makes the water harmful to drink.
Most people usually trust the water the use, they mainly consume the water
which is supplied by water supply companies or some people take water out of
water wells which are not monitored at all. Drinking harmful water can cause
stomach pain in people. So, testing of water quality increases the confidence
of using the water in people and in case of detecting harmful chemical people
can take action and they can also add chemical which will reduce the
harmfulness of the water or alternatively they can contact the authorities.
Enabling students to do this testing will also add a sense of responsibility in
some student if they see how much contaminated water they are using. I am sure;
they will take it upon themselves in future to resolve this issue in any
capacity the can.
The rationale of this task is about the water
quality testing in this assignment, students will gauge the nature of water
from various sources. The target of this assignment is to comprehend various
parameters for water quality like hardness, pH, alkalinity, chlorine and
utilize these ideas to compute a nature of water and evaluate on the quality of
water drinking or not. Now the rationale about the water quality testing is the
government agencies which do not monitor and regulate the water quality in the and
health. Water testing as well as in the private wells which is not required
through the state regulation and federal.
