Introduction of the Leadership
Good leaders are not being born by themselves but they
are made. Good and effective leaders can have all the qualities of the
leadership only when they want to be a good leader and they devote themselves
completely to be an effective leader. Good leaders are the ones that are being
developed by the never-ending processes that include education, training,
self-study along with the different kind of exposures as well.
There is not just a single definition of leadership
but there are many different kind of the definitions that revolve around this
leadership word and they vary from one area to another like the qualities of
individual person changes. (Amabile, 2004)
“Leadership is the process through which one person influences
the other person for achieving certain objectives and helps an organization to
be directed in a certain way that makes it way more cohesive as well as
coherent.”
This is one common definition of the leadership that
is mostly being used at many places to define about the leadership but along
with this there are many other as well that are:
This is the process where a person influences the
group of other people for achieving a common goal.
Leadership is the process towards the social influence
that becomes the reason to maximize the efforts of other individuals for
achieving a certain goal.
Leadership is also a source of inspiring others for
pursuing out the vision and aim within the certain parameters that have been
set, to the certain extent which ultimately becomes the shared effort along
with the vision and above all the shared access.
Leaders are the ones that carry out a process by the
application of their leadership skills along with the knowledge as well. This
is termed as the process leadership. In fact all of us know that some of us do
have traits which can cause an impact upon our certain actions and it is called
as the Trait Leadership, through this it was once believed that leaders are the
ones that are being born as the leaders rather than being made from certain
trainings.
Two different kind of the leadership styles have been
shown in the chart below:
Leadership literature is the one that helps to reveal
out that there are certain theories as well related to the Leadership same like
the definitions that have been discussed above. Different substantial efforts
have been done for the clarifying as well as the classification of the active
leadership by generating the considerable organizational as well as the social
research for the certain leadership styles along with the behaviors as well.
Some of the
Leadership Theories:
1.
Great Man Theory of the Leadership:
Effort towards the certain explorations for some of
the common traits of the leadership is being protracted over certain centuries
as there are many cultures that need heroes for defining out the success along
with justifying the failures as well. Back in year 1847, Thomas Carlyle is the
one that stated in some of the best interests of the certain heroes. Carlyle in
the Great Man Theory explains that leaders are the ones that are being born by
birth and they have the qualities of all these leaders as their traits. Other
than this, only those men who are endowed with the certain heroic potentials
could also become the leaders easily. He mentioned here that all of the great
men were born but they are not made. (Spector, 2016)
2.
Trait Theory of the Leadership:
Early Theorists is the one that mentioned here born
leaders are brilliant and they also have some of the physical traits along with
the personality characteristics that have been distinguished easily from the
non-leaders. Trait theories are the ones that completely ignored all such
assumptions related to the term that whether the traits of leadership are
genetic or the acquired. Jenkins is the one that identified two different
traits here. First one is the emergent trait which completely depends upon the
heredity that includes the intelligence level how intelligent and sharp an
individual is, height, and the level of self-confidence as well. The other
trait is the effectiveness trait, this depends on the learning along with the experience
as well. (Colbert, 2012)
3.
Contingency Theories of the Leadership:
Theories associated with the Contingency here suggests
out that there is no leadership style which is precise and as well as the stand
alone as the style of this leadership depends upon the number of different
factors like quality, followers situation along with certain other variables as
well. According to this theory particularly, there is not a single right way
for leading because internal as well as the external dimensions of the
environment specifically requires the leader to get adapted to particular situation.
In many different cases, certain leaders don’t just change the environment and
the dynamics but employees within an organization also get to be changed. In a
much common sense, these theories of the contingency are the category of
behavioral theory which challenges that there is not a single way for leading
as well as organizing along with the style for leadership which is operative in
some situations that may not seem to be efficient than the others. (Kriger, 2005)
These contingency theories here assume that leaders
used to be the focus for the relationship of leader sub-ordinates, it plays a
major role in defining the accurate role of the leadership. (Lorsch, 2010)
4.
Style and Behavioral Theory of the Leadership:
This style theory is the one that acknowledges all of
the significance for the specified and important skills of the leadership which
serves to be the enabler who performs out the act while drawing out the
parallel having the previous capacity for the leader former to the specific
action while suggesting out each of the individual has their own style of the
leadership for which they feel to be most contended. Employees serving out the
democratic leaders that displayed or showed the high degree for the satisfaction,
creativity along with the motivation as well that works with great interest and
energy no matter whether the leader is present or not. (Nawaz, 2016)
Transformational
Theory of the Leadership:
This is the theory which distinguishes itself
completely from the other theories on the terms of alignment for the greater
good as it involves the different followers in the different activities or the
processes that are associated with the personal factor towards the organization
along with the course as well which yields the specified social dividend. These
leaders are the ones that helps in raising the morality along with the
motivation as well of the followers as well as the leaders. (Breevaart, 2018)
How Leadership
plays a role in making an organization successful. Impact on Organization.
If we look at today’s world we can see how competitive
it is. Leadership are the skills which are crucial not only for professional
development but for personal development as well. Leadership is one of the most
important function of management which is helping an individual person or
business for the achievement of maximum goals. Leadership itself is a word but
it has many different meanings if we look from the eye of different authors.
Commonly leadership is termed as influence which means that how people are
getting influenced so that they can strive according to their will and with
full zeal and zest to achieve their certain goals which are in the minds.
Leadership is also a process in which inflecting is being done on different
activities which can be formal or informal for setting a certain goal and then
to achieve it.
People want good leadership skills for different set
of levels which include professional, social and personal. Personal leadership
is a process which is helpful for the determination of person’s own desires,
abilities and their strengths. In simple words it means that what a person aim
to achieve in their life and after getting it how successful a person can be.
One should know that how to achieve their certain goals no matter what people
think or say about it. Personal leadership helps a person to make present
better and to help getter better things in the future. (Rusliza Yahaya, 2016)
Good leadership is not only important to achieve goals
for own sake but this skill is very important to run a business as well. In
many of the companies owners and leaders think that decision which has been
taken on time and smartly are the key points to get success for the company. In
all this they totally forget that the implementation of all the decisions plays
an important role as much important thing is to make those decisions. Without
applying any of the rules results can’t be achieved. There is a very famous
saying which states that
“It’s easier to said than being done”
Same is the case here, only making a decision can’t
change anything until or unless they are being applied on time only then a
change and achievement can be seen. Leadership is in one way a crucial thing in
the implementation of decisions successfully and correctly.
Some of the qualities which makes a good leader are:
·
Knowledge
·
Fairness
·
Self-awareness
·
Creativity
·
Endurance
Enthusiasm
Making an organization to be successful enough, it is
very essential that for that organization leader should also be motivated and
have all the characteristics that have been discussed or defined in the above
paragraph. Any of the organization can’t run on its own or can be successful on
its own until or unless the leader is no motivated and to become a prime
example for the other employees that are working in the organization to make it
successful.
Technology and the
Leadership in making an Organization to be successful:
Digital technology is the one that has changed
different organizations and companies in a permanent way. Digitalization is
successfully shaping out the different organizations, different processes being
done in the organizations along with the work environment. This Digital
technology is also creating many new and different kind of the challenges to
the leaders which they have to face now. Leaders now have to be more active
than ever before. They need to perform different tasks accurately according to
the latest digital technologies because they know if they don’t do so, they can
have much problems in the future time and can remain back from the other
organizations. (Vogelsang, 2010)
Transactional leader is the one in any organization
who gives importance and value different orders, this leadership completely
relies upon the people who are self-motivated and works in a direct and
structured environment. In contrast, Transformational leadership is the one
that motivates different employees and workers to work in a better way.
Purpose of this study is to let leaders know that how important
is digital technology and its use in today’s world. Different leaders need to
be fully aware of the Information Technology by all means. In face of this
modern digitalization, leaders have developed many of the major and
complementary outlooks on the style of leadership in this age of digital.
Virtual leadership is considered to be a cornerstone that how different kind of
the leaders have executed and then applied different forms of the leadership.
Through different methods, digital tools which are being used in it and other
practices as well have enhanced the virtual presence of the leaders and then
applying and further practicing their different leadership skills on the
virtual plane. Second viewpoint is related to the holism, holistic approach is
one of the most important quality to be a modern leader in such an era where
organizations are changing and people are becoming more aware. Leader needs to
be fully and strongly aware of different kind of the outside effects related to
the business and society upon any of the organization. Not just the outside
effects but internal as well within any of the organization to understand and
then lead towards it. Leaders need to be active because if they are active only
then they can help their employees in better understanding and letting them
know what decisions they should take and which should they avoid. If the leader
itself is not capable of anything how would he or she can lead the
organizations and show path to their employees. So digital technology has no
doubt changed the world and it have many of the positive impacts in the society
as well but the old leaders have to now understand each and every skills of
this Digital technology to keep moving in this society and era. (Tanniru, 2018)
Digitalization has enabled the faster communication
along with the transformation as well in different organizations where it is
being used. Leaders are more concerned about their employees now because of the
increased demand of different kind of the cross disciplinary and the cross
functional work as well. Leaders have become much more concerned about the
protection of the different closed groups of their employees as well. (Northouse, 2018)
The study on the Digitalization, Digital leadership
and different kind of the researches on the leading digital is considered to be
in the need of hard and the development purpose in future. Different
characteristics can be used here depending upon the leader and condition of the
organization as well.
Conclusion
of
the Leadership
At the end, I would like to conclude by saying that no
one is born perfect or have the qualities or traits of these leaders but
experience and exposure helps out a lot in making a person to be perfect.
Different skills and qualities have been described in detail about the
Leadership to make an organization run successfully.
