Assignment on Does every parent know that their children are being bullied? No,

Category: Arts & Education Paper Type: Assignment Writing Reference: APA Words: 4000

Bullying is not just a word now, but it has been rambling not just in the society but especially in the schools. Here in this essay bullying is the main concern and the most highlighted one as well. Factually, there are many students and teenagers who have become the victim of this bullying at some stage. In the recent years, thesis statement related to the bullying has become one of the major problems of the global importance that has gained much value and importance in different educational policies. Bullying word is not just affecting the climate of school or home but it is also causing a great effect on the minds of teenagers, young children, teachers and parents as well. Would there ever be an international way to eliminate bullying from the schools and within the classrooms?

Does every parent knows that their children is being bullied? No, many parents are not well aware of this term even. It is very important these days to know about it. National crime prevention is a council which explains this term as “The use of mobile phones, internet or any other device to send different kind of posts, images or texts intended to embarrass or hurt the next person.” Different teenagers are being affected by Bullying. Here I want to say that only parents are not only unaware of the bullying thing in the schools that what may happen to their children, but teachers are also unaware that what are happening in the school to their school and the students that study in their school. This is not only the responsibility of one person or a group who can eliminate bullying completely from the schools, but this requires the complete effort of different people that includes teachers, parents and students itself. (Rigby, 2003)

Is Bullying really a problem that exists in the whole world and this may leave a short or the long-termed effects on the victims and especially on the young children? This bullying is described as the aggressive behavior that is being characterized by the repetition of a behavior and getting imbalance in the power. There is not just a certain limit of the children that are getting affected but hundreds and thousands of the children are getting affected on daily basis. This is the behavior that is not only damaging the people that become its victim or get involved in it, but it also affects others who are not even involved in it. This bullying should not be permitted anywhere in the school. Very sadly it has been seen that researchers from the last 20 years found out that many people even finish their lives because of this bullying act.

Here I want to add on an example that is, within some past few months another case has been seen that turned the table upside down and made people much sad. This is also the case related to the bullying, two sisters of different ages, one of thirteen years and the other one of fifteen years in the age lost their lives because they became the victim of the online bullying. A thirteen year of the girl hung herself due to the verbal and physical bullying at the school. The other girl of fifteen years in the age jumped from almost 30 feet of a bridge in height and then she got hit by the traffic. This is not just a single case, two or three but the list of such incidents keeps on going and going. There is not just a certain age limit of the victims, different aged people of both genders are the victims of bullying. The question here is that when this bullying act will stop by? Still how many parents have to bury their young children only because of bullying at schools? How many friends do have to still lose their fellow friends? All of us need to find the root of this problem and have to stop it as soon as possible because only then the fear from the minds can get finished. (Smith, 2004).

In a nutshell, how bullying is a problem that cause numerous issues in the society? The results of bully issues are insults, violence, and intimidation in kids. It is more harmful from perspective of psychological issues as compared to anyone anticipated. Researchers worked on its side effects and developed a linked bullying to mental health and violence problems between the perpetrators and victims.  Very often, victims suffer from extreme cases, violence, retribution, suicide, and low self-esteem. Several studies concluded that students suffering from bullying are more likely to be incarcerated in their life. The prime concern of present research is to identify the issues associated with such students, witness acts, anxiety issues and other negative personality disorders. At the end, research will provide possible solutions to eradicate the issue from society.

Different reports have been seen by now and the studies have been made that have established that almost 15 percent of the students are getting bullied on daily basis or they are the inhibitors of this bullying act. There are many chances that you or your child may have been a part of this bullying at some stage of the life at their school. This bullying act was just started as a small prank for the new comers in the school or the seniors used to do this with the juniors just to tease them and all but with the passage of time, this bullying act became the essential part and it has started becoming the tradition of different schools. In making it as a tradition of the school, teachers failed to see that how much it can cause disaster and see it is doing. This bullying act has been spread on such a large scale that now it seems almost impossible to stop it. (Strandmark, 2007)

Now talking about the bullying, is there only just one kind of bullying? No, there are many different kinds of the bullying which is being seen these days. We can’t even imagine that how broadly it is spreading and how intensively we need to stop it. There are many researchers who have been studying about this bullying since so long and from many years by now. They have found out that there is much more to the bullying than as compared to just meeting the eye. At first people only think that bullying is just of one or two types which may include name calling bullying or the physical bullying. However, here people are wrong, even parents and teachers themselves are not aware of the different kind of the bullying that is so common these days. Coming towards the bullying, there are many different kinds of the types which we are going to discuss in this section. There are almost six different kind of the bullying that includes gossiping and all. (Ahmed, 2005)

Here another thing needs to be known or considered that many people think that all acts of the bullying are same, are they really same? No, as name of every bully is different, so is their style. Every different kind of the bully use different kind of the style and tactics to control the victim and make them suffer. For the instance, there are some of the kids that bully is much sly that how they attack their certain target and while others are downright mean. By knowing the different kind of bullying styles that how they may affect the child, it won’t only make parents and teachers aware, but they also help out in finding the best ways to control them by all means. To eradicate them completely from the lives as soon as possible. This essay is particularly about eliminating the bullying from schools and especially within the classrooms so that the children and students can talk freely, live freely and do all their acts freely without getting scared of anything or getting worried about anything. Bullying is especially a fear in the mind that stops a person from doing different activities and tasks. It completely stops a person to indulge in other activities and therefore such victims start losing interest from the other activities and start getting depressed. When depression reaches at peak, they start thinking about the suicidal ideas because they think that this is the only way to get over this thing. They don’t find another way, nor do they want to. So, before it gets deep, it needs to be stopped. (Wallace, 2010)

            Let’s find out about the different kind of the bullying that is much common these days;

The first one is physical bullying. This kind of bullying is very common and is being done at almost everywhere in every school. This kind of bullying takes place when children start using the actions to gain control and have power on the juniors or the targeted children. Physical bullying is the one that tends to be stronger, aggressive and bigger as compared to the peers. Examples of this physical bullying may include hitting, punching, kicking, slapping and many other different kinds of the physical attacks. As compared to the other bullying types, physical bullying is the one that is most easy to be identified. This is the most obvious one when talked about the other bullying types. Additionally, this is the kind of bullying that has received much more attention from the schools as compared to the other forms of bullying. (Tharp-Taylor, 2009)

The second kind is verbal bullying. This is the second most common kind of the bullying that has been seen in the schools after the physical bullying. Perpetrators of this bullying use different statements, words and calling off by the different names to tease the targeted children or just to gain some power. This bullying is being used to hurt the other people to extreme, to hurt their feelings and to keep on torturing them. Children who use the tactics of this bullying choose out their specific or particular targets that are being based upon the way they look; they act at certain scene or behave accordingly. This is the most common way of bullying to target the kids that have specific kind of needs. This is the kind of bullying which is very difficult to be identified because you may never know how sweet specific person pretends to be in front of you and then start the same act at your back. Verbal bullying is being done mostly when adults are not around. For the result, it is mostly one person’s word against the other person’s word. This bullying is not considered seriously because there is no one who can tell about this kind of bullying. This bullying needs to be taken seriously like all others. Different researchers have found out that name calling, and the verbal bullying has very serious results and this act can leave very deep scars on the victims. (Wang, 2009)

The third one is relational aggression. This is a kind of bullying that is insidious and sneaky as compared to the other ones. This also remains unnoticed by the parents and teachers and therefore they don’t consider it that much serious and no as such actions are being done for them to stop it. This bullying is kind of social manipulation where teens and the tween do different acts to hurt their peers or even, they try to sabotage the social standings. The main purpose behind this bullying is to increase the social networks by bullying or controlling the other person. In general, ratio of girls is more as compared to the boys who tend to use this relational aggression. Girls mostly do this to become famous and the most tip top girl in the school because girls want to get more attention at their teenage life. Girls who get involved in this kind of bullying are considered to be the mean girls and they are also being called by such names because they don’t care about anyone or the feelings of others. They just think about themselves. This kind of bullying is more common in the middle school as compared to the school level.

The fourth kind is cyberbullying. This is the kind of bullying that is being done on the internet, this is the kind of bullying that is being done to those who misuse or use internet in excessive time. Through cyberbullying threatening is being done to the victims. If any of the adult is being involved in this kind of bullying or get harassed by it, this is called as cyber-harassment or the cyberstalking. No matter whether it is cyberbullying or traditional bullying it causes psychological as well as emotional distress. The ratio of cyberbullied kids is way more than any other victim these days and apart from these cyberbullied kids are facing swear fear, depression, anxiety, physical symptoms as well as they face a major decline in their academics. Along with the above-mentioned effects, here are some of the common feelings which are being faced by the teens as well as tweens together. Cyberbullied teens and tweens feel unsafe and unprotected. All this is due to a reason that they think bullying can invade their houses with the help of mobile phones or computers at any moment. They start to think that there is no single place where they can easily escape. Victims start feeling that maybe bullying is everywhere around them. Many cyberbullies choose people around them whom they already know to cause them pain. Many time victims of cyberbullying start getting angry not just on the people around them but also on their own self by thinking that what is happening to them and why can’t they stop it. Cyberbullying not only makes victims ill and depressed but also increases the rate of suicide. Kids who are continuously being tormented via messages, social media or through other outlets start feeling hopeless. They start thinking that maybe suicide is the only way through which they can escape from the pain they are going through. So, as a result, they start to fantasize about putting an end to their life to reduce the pain and torture. Examples of cyberbullying may include posting the image that can hurt the other person, doing some of the online threatening and even sending some kind of hurtful emails or the texts as well. Cyberbullying is the kind of bullying that is a growing issue among the young people especially. This is also becoming even more widespread because bullies can easily harass the targets having a very slight risk of being caught. Cyberbullies often saying of the things that can’t be said face to face. Technology is the one that makes them feel anonymous and even detached from the certain situation. This online bullying is way crueler and mean as compared to the other bullying types.

The fifth kind is sexual bulling. Sexual bullying is the one that consists of the harmful, repeated and even humiliating actions as well that targets the other person in the sexual way. Examples of sexual bullying includes calling by the sexual names, very negative and rude comments, some of the vulgar actions, touching in an inappropriate way. At instance, this kind of bullying may include calling girls from different names like slut or even tramp, different kind of comments are being made up on the body and appearance even dressing as well. This makes girls so depressed and sad. Sexting is another way that lead towards the sexual bullying. Here an example can be used that suppose if a boy sends a picture of her to the boyfriend. In case if they break up, the boyfriend shares a photo with the whole school to humiliate her or to take revenge from her. As a result, she becomes the target of a sexual bullying because people in the school start making fun of their body, they may call her by the rude names and even make vulgar comments about that girl. There are many boys who even see that girl and consider it as an open invitation to proposition her or even assault her out sexually. This bullying is seen on a large scale and many people especially girls are becoming its victim. They get so sad and depressed that they end up their lives because they don’t see any other choice or option. They consider it as their insult. (Fredland, 2008)

The last kind is prejudicial bullying. This is the kind of bullying that relies upon the prejudices teens and tweens that have the people of having different religion, races or even the sexual orientation. This is the type of bullying that can easily encompass all different kinds of bullying which includes verbal bullying, relational bullying, physical bullying and even the sexual bullying as well. When this prejudicial bullying takes place, children are targeting the other children who seems to be different from others and then singling them out from others. This is the type of bullying that is very severe, and it easily open up the door for other crimes as well. At any moment, when a child is being bullied for the sexual orientation, religion or the race it needs to be reported as soon as possible for the protection. Bully is the word that may vary from one place to the other and from person to person. They all have different personalities, styles, goals and the behaviors. All the motivations and methods for the bullying varies and are different as well. But here one thing needs to be memorized and that is not all of the bullies will fix neatly into all the categories.

No matter what kind of bullying it is, it causes psychological as well as emotional distress. The ratio of bullied kids is way more than any other victim these days and apart from these bullied kids are facing swear fear, depression, anxiety, physical symptoms as well as they face a major decline in their academics. Along with the above-mentioned effects, here are some of the common feelings which are being faced by the teens as well as tweens together. Bullied teens and tweens feel unsafe and unprotected. (Wolke, 2015)

Bullying is not being taken as a serious thing. Parents and teachers should know that it can kill your loved ones. If your child or student is being cyberbullied, please do not miss their feelings. Try to communicate with them on daily basis, ensure them that they are safe and not alone.

Bullying can be stopped but how? Loved ones can also come out of this state if you help them and support them. One big action which needs to be taken is raising awareness among people. Try to make this word cyberbullying common by doing different seminars. Speakers should be invited who can easily talk on this topic and make it more interesting. Students should be well aware of this term so that in future they don’t suffer and a big problem and can easily go through it. Many young people these days don’t share what they go through from their parents. Try to become close enough to your children so that they don’t feel any hurdle or difficulty while sharing any kind of problem. In case if they don’t, try to notice their activities and behavior. Technology these days is changing so rapidly that parents don’t have enough time to know about all such applications but still try to have a check on the activities of your children that what they do and all before it gets too late. Try to monitor online activities. Bullying has one advantage that it can be noticed, and one can now easily save the evidence as well. Taking laptops and mobile phones away from your children is not a good option in this era, now parents can install monitoring application which allows the monitoring of all the social media activities which include Instagram and Facebook messages as well not only the available ones but the deleted ones as well. Now parents can control their children’s mobile phone with the help of their own cell phone. They can have a complete look at their activities without letting them know.

Modern children are bit different, they choose role models and try to follow them in every possible way. The choice varies from children to children, some choose singer while some choose sportsmen. In this era, many of the celebrities are supporting the victims of cyberbullying. Many among them post different comments and posts on their social accounts against bullying. They talk about this problem so this is another way through which children can become aware of bullying.

Last but not least, people who are facing this problem are in serious condition and they need proper attention and care. Try to be with them and help them out before it gets too late and you lose them.

Summarizing the above discussion there are three main possible solutions to reduce bullying issues in the society. The possible solutions of bullying are listed below,

1.      Higher company values against bullying

2.      Educate parents, teachers, adults, kids, and school going students.

3.      Introduce prevention programs

4.      Increase the level of awareness in society

5.      Consider the help of psychologist in case of extreme symptoms.

6.      Protect ethnic minorities

7.      Develop self esteem

8.      Develop some variations in old environment

9.      Make good and supporting friends

The argument to support the above-mentioned solutions consider different conditions. The subjected solutions are listed below,

1.      Help kids to understand bullying, and how to stay safe in such unacceptable conditions. Tell them to keep away from such situation.

2.      Keep the lines of communication between you and children open, this is the best solution to stop bullying.

3.      Encourage kids and school students to love others. Take them in special activities, hobbies, and interest. In this way you will boost confidence of kids to have good behavior with other friends and to protect them from such situations.

4.      Teach kids how to treat others. Teach them the ways to respect and remain gentle with others.

5.      Develop a relation of trust between kids and adults so they feel comfort, advice, and support when telling their issues directly.

6.      Give them tips such as using stop and humor directly and confidently.

7.      Urge kids to help others in different situations.

I believe that communication is the best way to stop bullying in one way or the other because through this students and young generation can talk about the situation which they are going through to their loved ones. It is always not necessary that parents have to know this, bullied person can talk to anyone whom he loves or feels to have trust upon to share things. Communication helps in making things better and one can feel safe and secure from the threats as well. Why communication is best solution? Communication between the parents and children or even any close person is considered to be a key to put a full stop to different kinds of bullying. Through communication one can let the bullied person know how he or she is feeling and in which state he or she is. Things can be under control through communication and so far it is one of the best solution to stop an act of bullying.
