My short term career goal is to join
the construction industry as part of the management team so that I can work to
attain my long term goal, which is to become a Production Manager in any
reputable construction company. I would like to mention here that I am starting
from a short term perspective because I believe that one should go step by step
to achieve his/her long-term goals. Setting a long-term goal and then making an
attempt to achieve those long-term goals, it requires a lot of hard work,
commitment, and dedication. So, I have decided that for the next two years, I
will do whatever is possible to achieve my short and long-term goal. I will
complete my relevant degree/course so that I can secure a position in the
management team of a construction company, and then I will work as hard as
possible to climb the career ladder to reach the position of Production
Manager.
It is important for me to know the
basic requirements and skillset, which is needed for me to become a production
manager in the construction industry. The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
is an ideal source to get this information. According to BLS, the median pay
for a manager in the construction industry is $95,260/year, whereas the per
hour median wage is $45.80. The entry-level education needed to get this job in
the future is at least a bachelor’s degree. But if I want to become a Manager
in the future, then I will certainly require more skills and education to
achieve this long-term goal. The major skill set needed for the construction
manager is to do the planning, supervising, coordination, as well as, budgeting
so that construction projects are finished within the given timeline. The
Master level degree programs in the field of construction management are
offered by a variety of universities, and I believe that I have to enroll in
one of those degree programs to become more suitable for the production manager
job. At every level of management in this field, more skills are required so
that a person is able to handle more tasks. After learning all of this
information, my lifetime career goals have not changed in any terms, rather I
am feeling more committed to becoming Manager in the construction industry, and
I will make every possible effort to prove myself as a great fit for this job (BLS.GOV, 2020)
