Category: Business Paper Type: Assignment Writing Reference: APA Words: 1700

In general, the process of ethical decision-making passes through different stages in such a way that all stages contribute towards the understanding of issue, identification of right alternatives, and putting an efficient solution that meets every ethical guideline. For Samsung, in ethical decision making, the seven steps include:

·        Problem Statement: In 2016, Note 7, the newly launched phone became one of the most harmful and dangerous phones to explode into flames. On this crisis, the organisation did not respond efficiently and it failed in taking ethical blame for issue and rather put the blame on the users as they were not using the phones properly. In fact, they were using duplicate chargers for charging the phone.
·        Fact checking: Actually, this crisis seemed to go on for 47 days and during this time, the market value for organisation seemed to decrease by 17 billion dollars. Actually, there were a number of complaints that there identified in the mobile phones of S7 Notes within only seventeen days of release. Again, the management of organisation was not effective in taking the ethical responsibility of issues while the international recall occurred for 2.5 million S7 Notes.
·        Factor Identification: The key reasons and factors resulting in the decrease in credibility of the organisation and 30 percent decrease in profits were inefficient ethical decisions by the management of organisation. The firm was needed to take ethical decision for the resolution of issue. Even the handset replacement did not work properly and the same problem seemed to occur.
·

·        Alternative Identification: It would not be wrong to say that that were some alternatives that could have been considered by the management of Samsung including: providing guidelines for the utilisation of phones as there can be thorough guidelines for using phones so that some issues can be resolved by users themselves, releasing an apology as there could have been a note about apology and it could have required the customers have their phones repaired from the nearest stores of Samsung, and recalling every phone and paying the customer back as it was an ethical consideration to recall phones back and pay the customers back for the mobile phones that had been purchased by them.
·        Alternative Testing: It is important to note that the alternatives could have easily been compared with the use of ethical theories such as utilitarianism on which all decisions and actions are evaluated and analysed based on their results. Thus, the results of these actions should have been good. The first and second alternatives are not that significant and they do not meet the standards set by utilitarianism. However, the third solution is the most feasible and it also meets the standards of utilitarianism as paying the customers back for their products would have served to make customers happy.
·        Decision Making: The third alternative is needed to be implemented as an important part of the process of decision making by ensuring that the management of Samsung recalls phones and pay the customers back. Actually, the reason for issues in the seventh generation phones needed to be shared with consumers as it would have helped in bringing authenticity and validity to Samsung. Ethical decision-making’s utilitarianism will make sure that the results of decisions bring good and happiness to people.
