Analysis of Employee Communication in Workplace
In this particular analysis, the focus is
given to the topic of employee communication at the workplace. The topic will
be analyzed with three further categories; internet-based communication,
workplace communication through social media, as well as, communication
barriers. It is a well-known fact that communication is an effective way
to share thoughts and experiences. The organizations cannot work and attain a competitive
advantage without making effective strategies through communicating with each
other in the workplace. To create and maintain a positive workplace
environment, the communication of employees in the workplace is a major
concern. Due to the crisis of Covid-19, every industry in the world is facing
several difficulties and problems because they are focusing on maintaining
social distancing. But communication in the workplace is essential to run the
business of the organizations. According to the concepts of communication,
companies can consider several types of ways for effective communication in the
workplace. Due to some communication barriers especially Covid-19, the
employees cannot communicate with each other. So, they consider possible
communication ways nowadays such as internet-based communication like emails,
web panels, official messengers, etc. Furthermore, many organizations also
consider social media applications like WhatsApp, Facebook, and other social
media sources for the employee’s communication.
Internet-Based Communication: In this part,
the focus will be given to the internet-based communication, which is one of
the most common communication methods used in recent times. The source for
communication can be any, but the real thing is the importance of communication.
As Karanges, Johnston, Beatson, & Lings (2015) states that the communication
among employees in a workplace is the key to the success of making effective
strategies to increase workability, production, the progress of the business as
well as enhancing financial growth of the company. Every company must have to
consider the internal communication and must adopt new technology for internal
communication. The researchers described that the internal communication of the
employees is a very significant concept for the engagement of the employees
working in the workplace because it ensures the high productivity as well as
the positive and effective outcomes of employees. The paper is discussing that
the employees are encouraged to communicate with other employees through the
use of internet applications provided by the organizations. The main benefit of
using internet-based communication is that it increases employee engagement at
the workplace, as well as they, can also communicate anytime by sending emails
and messages, which is a very effective resource for the communication of the
employees.
Furthermore, the research article is
describing that the association of the employees has not been tested
empirically while the researchers highlight the internal relationship importance
as well as the engagement of the employees into the workplace. Some surveys
also conducted to collect data of employees to check the satisfaction level by
having online communication portals. The study on employee communication and
engagement through internet-based communication is confirming the internal
employee's communication, internal supervisor support through communication,
and internal organization communication based on the meaning and the worth of
online communication. Moreover, the study is also providing information that
internet-based communication among the employees can increase the supervision
and monitoring at the workplaces that can increase the productivity and quality
of the products because of the direct employee engagement (Karanges, Johnston, Beatson, & Lings, 2015). If this topic is
understood in the context of the article published in the Globe and Mail
written by MCMULLAN & SMITH (2020), it can be said that in the time of
COVID-19, the internet-based communication is the most commonly used method,
which has made things easier for the companies to communicate (MCMULLAN & SMITH, 2020).
Workplace Communication through
Social Media: The employee’s communication in the workplace is a very
important part of making strategies for the work, ensuring employee engagement
as well as increase the productivity of the employees in the workplace. In this
section, it is discussed about workplace communication through social media. As
described by Carlson, Zivnuska, Harris, &
Harris (2016), the workplace has deeply been penetrated by social media which
has impacted several areas of the lives of employees. The research study is
mainly focusing to investigate the influence and impact of the use of social
media communication on the work performance of employees as well as the primary
method for how they are creating value in the workplace. Moreover, it can also
promote work performance by offering the communication channel where implicit
and explicit information may be transferred effectively among the employees,
managers, and supervisors. The transfer of knowledge among employees is very
essential because the employees can make strategies effectively through the use
of social media. The research study on social media communication is telling
that the model of research was tested through using the data which was obtained
from different channels that use social media can effectively engage employees.
The results of the study are showing that social media’s role is critical in so
many ways, which helps out to enhance the trust of the company among employees.
Furthermore, social media is also effective to transfer knowledge (Carlson, Zivnuska, Harris, & Harris, 2016)
Communication
Barriers: It is one of the most
important topics to be discussed in a context of employees’ communication at
the workplace because when there are communication barriers, things don’t move
forward in the right direction. The employees may face several types of
communication barriers to work due to several reasons. The research work is
focusing on employee communication in the workplace. In this section, it is discussed
about communication barriers into the workplace. The researcher of the study is
describing that many employees working in workplaces face different barriers
and the cross-cultural barriers are one of these barriers. Many organizations
are focusing to open their company branches into other countries but the people
in other countries may face language and cultural barriers that can affect
communication. Due to this reason, employees and departments cannot communicate
effectively. The organizations are focusing on diversity as well as removing
the cross-cultural barriers from the workplaces to effectively communicate with
each other.
By
understanding the culture as well as understanding the behaviors of employees
can remove these barriers from the workplace. The understanding of employee’s
country cultures will empower the trust of employees in the organization. Further
on the communication barriers in the workplace, it is identified the lack of
clarity in communication, inconsistency in communications and meetings, the
differences in the languages as well as some other problems also exist in the
workplace. These are can affective for communication because employees,
managers, and supervisors cannot perform effective operations to increase productivity
without making strategies (Adu-Oppong & Agyin-Birikorang, 2014)
